What's new

random food pics

Per the wife...sugar (few cups), Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder (few tablespoons), evaporated milk (to desired consistency), pinch of salt, vanilla extract (teaspoon). Mix sugar/cocoa/evap milk/salt and heat until sugar is completely dissolved (smooth, not grainy), add vanilla...smother biscuits.

Adjust ratios to get desired sweetness...some like it blander.

Kinda like a hot, runny, chocolate pudding...but sweeter.
I grew up in Wisconsin and never heard of that. Interesting.

That statement about not knowing about certain foods because you're "not from" a certain area is becoming less and less true all the time.
It was definitely that way while I was growing up in Wisconsin in the 1950's and 1960's, but I've watched that change over the decades.:cool2:
No one, 1950s or 2022, ever considered iron river the bastion of culinary flavors.

Kieler, well, different story..

I actually just had this conversation yesterday with my wife. Most local restaurants (and people, if they cook) in iowa/upper midwest (local as in not franchised nationally) still don't understand flavors, and 85%+ cause it's grandma's recipe, and Braunschweiger is the height of their culinary ladder, salt and pepper and ketchup.

But it is changing very slowly ish

Maybe a midwest thing, but buttermilk biscuits, lots of butter, and chocolate gravy is the shit!

Definitely looks midwestern, I'm surprised there aren't corn flakes on it. :flipoff2:

Butter milk biscuits and butter :homer::homer:. Chocolate gravy? Interesting concept but I will pass.

Friends from AR talk about chocolate gravy. I am from MO and have never had it. not saying I wouldn't try it if offered but won't run out and buy ingredients to make it either. lol

Insta pot ribs. Didn’t have a few hours to smoke them the correct way. Turned out pretty decent for the time it took

Turkey drumsticks precooked in sous-vide.

Served in an ice shack with sticky rice/mushrooms and a cheap bottle of white wine.

Oh, and kids got home-made poutine.
