Race truck 4653

Hill climb gone wrong during pre-running lol. Tried to down shift half way up, stalled the truck, locked up the brakes and slid backwards into a tree. No mechanical damage to the truck. Currently getting ready to race at 5:00.

Good luck today!

I'll be watching on the live stream.....

Visions 2023 was awesome! Full race recap coming soon.

We got to Visions 2023 got setup and did some pre-running. Hill climb gone wrong during pre-running. Tried to down shift half way up, stalled the truck, locked up the brakes and slid backwards into a tree. No mechanical damage to the truck. We got the truck through tech and got ready for qualifying. During qualifying we flopped the truck, self recovered and headed back to the trailer to prep for the main race.

Race Day! We started in the back due to flopping during qualifying. No issues with the truck during the first few laps. On the last lap the engine started acting like it wasn't getting any fuel. We pulled off course, swapped out the fuel pump, completed the lap and got the checkered flag for another finish. Overall it was a great time with great people.

Looks like a fun course, did you run it in high range or drop to low range in tight stuff?
I ran it in high range and used 4low for the hill climbs and tight stuff.
I said put a sponsor sticker on the skid plate:lmao:

What did you think of this course in comparison to the prior year Visions course?
It was very similar to last years course. This year they added a few more miles and no bypasses for the 4600 cars. I think it was awesome.

That’s good on liking the course. Didn’t realize it was a similar course. Of course last years coverage was only of the short course and one other section.

Why would you ever use high range? Should be able to do 70+ in low.

Fair, but why? 4 hi is gutless. Even most 4400 u4 guys don't run 1:1

I'd think using 2nd, 3rd, 4th low through those twists and turns would be way better the 1st and 2nd?
I might give 4LO a try next race. I fell like I will be doing a lot more shifting in 4LO. Doing some local testing here soon, we will see how Lo works in a similar environment.

Currently working on the 22re, dual, external, selectable fuel pump setup.

I get that, and obviously I've never raced, but beating on my 4cyl rigs in the woods, 4hi was always gutless and 2.28 made it almost feel fast.

Nice, I think that's the way to go on even hardcore trail rigs.

Do you plan to flip flop which pump you use, or just stick with one and keep the other one "fresh"?

Running the truck in 2.28 low on the rear case would probably be OK but if you had to run the range box in 2.28 for a long duration....I feel that's a ticking time bomb and a chance to shear the rear case input. Just my .02

Ya, I don't know what ratios he runs, but 2.28 x 2.28 seems like plenty for racing. Run the rear in low then grab the front for crawling?

I think you are mistaken on the 4400 running lower gears than 1 to 1. Especially at a race like that where even the hill climbs where in 2nd and 3rd high range. Very fast track.

Absolutely not, even desert races are less than 1:1. They gear them for the max speed they plan to run on the Rev limiter. If you do the math, 5.38s and 40s with a 1:1 high gear is beyond what they will run even in the desert. Around 160 mph depending on Rev limiter.

Ufo rigs run an scs case and swap the gears for different races. Lower gears mean better acceleration no matter if you have 100 or 1000hp.

I believe Shannon just runs a 2:1 or 1.5:1 atlas in low all the time. I remember a guy running his 205 in low for the whole koh.

Even trophy trucks are running some sort of underdrive.

It's a common thing in the 4600 guys to run 1:1 in the fast sections, but they would benefit just the same from lower high range.

Maybe that is why I can not keep up with the Campbells. Maybe they just have better cars and are better drivers.

Are those e2000 or walbro pumps? I have a few laying around and may do this when I chop the cab off mine.
