Where is the potato region?

No, they don't take care of us. They're both in their early 40's and have a 19 y/o son who'll move with them along with his girl friend. They've been wanting out of SoCal for a while now so they can afford to buy a house. Sharon has been tied to this area because all 3 daughters and 4 grandkids are here. She's always said she wouldn't move unless some of them did. The oldest grandson (22) works for a company that has offices in many states and he's looking to move in the near future with his girlfriend (almost fiancé), so that's what got Sharon looking at moving out of SoCal. She said she's ready for a big change of scenery, locationwise.

Hope it works out well for you. Winters will be a big change. SOCal climate is so nice, too bad the political/regulatory climate is so messed up.

True. I grew up in southern Wisconsin, so I know snow/cold. Not my favorite, but I can deal with it. The nice thing about being retired is we don't have to go out when it's really shitty unless it's an emergency.

I was thinking about the Boise area, partly because the daughter/SIL have it on their list, but the smog check every 2 years turned me off. I'm trying to escape that stuff.
Also, the housing costs there are higher than in Twin Falls & Idaho Falls.

The smog checks here is nothing like CA.

Boise is high desert; but we're at the foot of the Rocky Mountain range so our desert heat is extremely dry.

Like; 7% humidity in July/August.

As importantly; the Winters here are as dry.

When I left San Diego in '99 for Boise; the first thing I saw when we pulled into an Albertson's parking lot right off I84 were people open-carrying. :smokin:

Tell me more about your smog checks.

Tell me more about your smog checks.

They're located in red 'Home Depot shacks' in parking lots and blvd corners around the city.

You drive up to it like a Fotomat booth.

Dude comes out/you hand him your emissions test notice postcard/he goes inside and enters info into the sniffer.

He walks around and sticks sniffer into your tailpipe and does a ultra-quick visual with a mirror of your exhaust system.

He opens hood/connect clamp to a sparkplug wire/and does a quick visual of engine compartment.

Goes back into shack/tells you to rev engine to 2,500RPMs and hold it there.

After about 10-15sec he tells you he's done.

He hands you your 'pass test/receipt'.

Two years ago it was $14 for said emissions test.

More or less; it takes about 5min .

Where I live right now there's no sniffer. They just verify no check engine light and plug into the diagnostic plug.

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, does the housing market in your area have buyers? Might assume that your house would sell for a lot more than to buy a house in Idaho?
it's surprising Idaho has smog checks. Is it on all vehicles or just certain years....

You are OLD how do you handle cold weather? Are you able to handle the freezing temps when you sit down to pee and your nuts bounce on the Frozen pond in the porcelain thrown because you forgot to wear your nut bra? And Hope they don't freeze to the ice like the dogs nuts did in Joe Dirt. If so make sure you have some crisco spray and a spatula handy next tothe throne to scrape them off and stuff em back in your nut bra.

Do you plan to shovel snow?

Do you want to die in the cold?

My Grandpa left Maine 5 years ago said fuck that I am not dying in the cold and being left in a underground freezer for 6 months after I am dead. He passed 2 months ago at 92 a week after his birthday here in swampy ass Florida.

Another thing are you interested in having limited sunlight in after 330 PM in the winter and extended sunlight at almost 9PM in the summer.

From what I've found out it's in Ada & Canyon counties, basically the Boise area. It's on cars 1982 and newer.
Houses like ours here are selling in a day or two. One down the street sold 4 hours after it was listed.
Our house would sell for at least 2X what something like it would in Idaho.

What are real estate prices in Idaho? Let's say a 2000 sq ft average house on a few acres about 25 miles from a city...and yearly total property taxes?

It's by county.

Ada county has the largest population.

Holy fuck, I wasn't thinking of a $400K castle...been for sale 500 days....Taxes are fairly low for such a place..

Seasons are kinda cool too. More so if you lived the socal weather for so long.

I wish you best of luck with your move :gary:

Let's see:
I'm in Meridian

Budd is in Middleton (by me)

Lil Uzi is a little North and East of Salmon

You being on the East side (Idaho Falls) or central (Twin Falls) would cover almost all areas, except the panhandle.

I got the panhandle covered, just outside of Pinehurst.

No shit?

I thought people that lived in Buhl, stayed in Buhl.:flipoff2:

No the leave young, get tired of the shithole they ended up in and move back later. Except the big farms and corp stuff has really killed what jobs there were. Most now work in Twin and commute and eventually move closer. Filer or Kimberly.

Burley has had some of the same struggles.

I would go back if I could. The imports have ruined the valley here and it's only getting worse. We'll be another shithole Portland/Seattle/whatever in 10 years. The only thing balancing it out right now is the Mormon imports.

People moving here bringing their shitty problems and attitudes with them. They move here, act the same as they did before, and pretend like the are the center of the universe.

In the past they would move here and a lot would realize the couldn't change it and move on to the next place to pillage, This time the masses are so large the aliens are getting strongholds. Just look at the mayor.

Speaking of the emission check. I got a discount a few years back because I was grumpy and in a hurry. Some Texan was bitching up a storm because his shitbox shittylay wouldn't pass. Whining about moving so he didn't have to deal with this. I yelled out the window for him to quit being a bitch and move his stupid ass back to Texas because the were the ones that caused it. Thought he was going to have a stroke. When the flunky got done laughing he charged me $5.

We're debating whether to go Hwy93 or I-15 to I-84. We'll probably end up going I-15.

i drive 93/318/6/93. I15 is only better because of the speed. If you have been through southern Utah I would go the other route. 93 the whole way is an hour or two longer. But you can swing through Great Basin National Park.

if you want better views in Idaho stay off the freeway for what you can. It has that route because it's the shitty land. The scenery is way different off that route.

Highway 30 from Bliss to Burley.
Highway 20 from Mt Home to Blaine County.
Highway 26 from 93 to Idaho Falls.

some places worth a stop:
Bruneau Dunes
Bruneau Canyon Overlook
Thousand Springs , might be able to do a diner boat ride
Malad Gorge is neat but really only worth it in high water
Miracle Hot Springs
Banbury Hot Springs
Nat-Soo-Pah
Shoshone Falls and Twin Falls (the actual falls). Not really running this time of year but whatever
you can canoe under the prine bridge to pillar Falls
Shoshone Ice Caves
Craters of the Moon
City of the Rocks
St Anthony Dunes
my knowledge is lacking in eastern Idaho for the most part.

Kind of outside what you stated. Boat rides and rafting in the Salmon, Hells Canyon, and the Payette. The Salmon can be hit on the west, central, and east side of the state.

Depending on on timing I may be able sneak away for a boat ride on the Snake near Bliss.

i still call the hospital in Twin Tragic Valley. It may be better now but I always told people to die trying to get help somewhere else. Going to be dead either way.

I'm motorhome shopping and would like to see your renegade if you come close. Not a lot of opportunity to see them here.

Oh and Idaho Falls is close to 5000'. The winter there is almost a month longer. Same with cascade and McCall. The wind gets higher as you go east because Wyoming sucks so much. Treasure Valley gets more inversions because of less wind (kind of).
