Pick an engine, 66 Fairlane edition

lincoln aviators also got the 4v 4.6 mod motor and are cheap as chips.

don't know what you'd do for a rwd trans though since I'm pretty sure they were all AWD.
They've got the same bell housing pattern as nearly all other modulars so the transmission is no big deal. The only odd ball 4.6 is the one in the Continental that got the v6 bellhousing so they could stuff 300hp through a Taurus transaxle.

yeah I'm just saying it's not a one stop shop for a RWD drivetrain.

but if you wanna mess with 4v mod motors that's gotta be the cheapest way to get one.

Find a $500 camry Accord and she'll probably trade even up.

Half tons stayed 31spline at least into the 2010s. So he could slap on the parking brake from an F-superduty.

Remove the front driveshaft and bolt the driveshaft mounting flange to the case

Now it’s RWD

Chipping away at it

MK VIII with the teksid 4.6 engine are still pretty reasonable. Also gets you the IRS if you wanna go that way,
Saw one of those inna cobra replica at a show not long ago .

Engine , automatic trans and maybe the rear suspension too

Making progress. Got all the front suspension off, engine crossmember cut out and enough brackets removed to mock up the new crossmember and front suspension. Borrowed a set of wheels and tires from a buddy to check clearances up front.

Details man, details!
What details do you want?

Suspension is a bunch of cheap AJE stuff meant for a '60s mustang that I'll be making work with the differences a Fairlane chassis has. It converts it all to SN95 style struts and steering rack.

This week's goal is to continue cleaning the "frame" rails up, lock down the crossmember, and likely completely remove the stock strut towers. From there it will get tubing through the firewall and I'll mount camber plates to that.

Cool, do you intend to widen it for the fairlane?

Did you pick a power train yet?

That was the point of the wheel/tire mock up. I thought I would need to, but the track width ends up perfect. The frame rails on the fairlane are a 1" wider spread than a mustang according to where the AJE crossmember holes land. Instead of hole-sawing the frame for crush sleeves the plan right now is to instead sink sleeves into the inner web of the boxed framerail to make up the difference.

Still haven't picked up anything. That crossmember came set up for a SBF but I'll cut those mounts off and re-make if need be.

Nice work on the cage.

I did the AJE foxbody k member on my 62. Cut everything but the frame rails off. Room for any motor you want!

That turned out great, nice work. Thanks for the reminder that I'm not building a pre-runner and I don't need tubes going everywhere.

Sure,but just a heads up,that's not a pre-runner in the pic I posted.:flipoff2:

That was aimed at myself, not at you. I tend to overbuild street stuff coming from a desert background, your car was a reminder for me to chill out and not throw tubes everywhere.

The tube layout that you did is an elegant way to get the coilovers mounted without a bunch of unnecessary weight.

TLDR. Only really read thebfirst page and a half. Checking in to see if you have had the realization a LS swap is going to be your best option. :flipoff2::lmao:

Just kidding. Im stoked to watch this build.

For OP not wanting to throw tubes and triangulation everywhere, I give you this:flipoff2:

Looking forward to seeing it turn rear tires into smoke.:smokin:

Nice wheel choice
Torque thrust is always the perfect wheel for old fords
I always heard em called “old style Americans “

Slot mags are second best .
Although the slot mags with the square corner slots are better looking but harder to find
