Panzers: I break rocks thread

Cool thread. I work for a precaster up here in the PNW so ag is pretty important to us:laughing: We looked into buying our own pit recently, but the property tested out with too much shit we wouldnt use or would be a hard sell.

??? Hard to sell.??? This is unheard of around here. Everything thing I make intentionally or unintentionally gets sold. You need to find a better salesman lol. I got one pile that has 4 names and corresponding prices it all depends on who’s asking lol

What kind of pit was it? I’m guessing once your concrete plant added up all the numbers on what it would take to tool up a crushing spread and washplant set up they said guck this. If bought new they would have 2+ million just to get barebones started. The aggregate business is nice in that the startup costs are so high no one can afford to start one up. This gives the guys who are doing it a nice margin.

Haha it was going too be too much for what it was worth. It had a lot more of the shit we dont use (we use 3/4 chip, 3/8 pea, and sand) so it wasnt overly beneficial to the precast side of things for us. That and like you said startup costs were astronomical and ROI was going to take a long time. We just have issues getting clean ag from our current supplier and the next closest pit is 3x further away so cost really goes up.

We went thru the parking brake thing with msha, we had 3500 Chevy 4wd with the shitty drum in disc brake, msha expected it to hold on our 10% grade while hooked to a trailer with an 8k skidsteer on it.

We discussed custom drive line brake, line lock, but management was afraid to modify. I suggested a sticker on the dash "don't park on grade with trailer":homer:
it was never resolved, when msha showed up, the truck got red tagged, and came in for 100% new components, and would hold like that for 5 days.

as for the zf, a old body style Fsuperduty came with a 4wd tranny that had a drive line brake bolted on like a t case. I think you're SOL without modifying your stuff

Msha is crazy on the parking brake issue. I cringe everytime they show up and have a service truck there.

I
need to stay off Marketplace and craigslist. I would love to buy this and but the sweetest service truck ever. Drop the body and box on a newer 550 chassis and power it with a 6bt. I might make a bad cash offer on it to see if he’ll budge on the way too high of price.

Hey, what happened with the boat? Is there a thread for it over here?

It’s resting in the garage no time to screw with it ;(. It’s sad as it now runs lol. Just need dash reverse buckets and seats mounted. Today I’m working on my water tanker so we can water some roads Monday. Got a 100 loads of sand to haul in for a house and if I don’t take care of the dust the sheriff will be called on me ;(.

Spraying calcium or just water?

Dad stopped by the guy that’s gonna get blasted by dust and he really didn’t seem to mind. Dad hauled him a load of screened black dirt at a screaming deal so maybe that helped.

I got this tanker trailer a few years back to have water when we crush in town to help keep the dust down. That way the Karen’s don’t start whining. Of course it had two leaky air bags, so those got replaced this morning. Thank god a mom and pop heavy truck was open today and actually had two airbags for me.

I am in the process of building a spray bar for it. It had a hyd lump on back so I’m hoping to use that to pressurize a spray bar. I’ll use some nozzles out of my washplant. Of course I didn’t have a set of pioneer quick connects to hook my semis wet kit to the tanker. I had to go in the dead row to find a set. Found a set on a tailgate sander that I forgot I had. I got lucky lol. Now I’ll build a bar and weld it to the bumper and see how it will work!

I have a hard time getting the pictures in the right spot/order on my iPhone. They just appear random. The problem is I need to close the keyboard to insert photos so they go where ever they want .

Got this all done works well enough. Could prolly have put 2 or 3 more nozzles but I didn’t know what the pump was capable of.

Drilled the holes with my mag drill. That thing is sure a pleasure to use. Makes jobs like this easy. Then I used the best tapping oil in the world moly dee. I’m gonna cry when this bottle is out and then I’ll have to go to the new formula.

I just welded the bar up behind the bumper. That way it won’t get ripped off the first outing. All in all pretty easy project. Sorry for the out of order photos iPhones suck for this ;(

We have been using duckbills on ours, seem to work pretty well. That upside down mud flap would annoy me.

Is that an old milk tanker? Have fun with no baffles.

If you are pumping out of a pond I suggest your nozzles and lines are big enough for rocks and also have a screen where you fill to keep them to a minimum.

About 45 mins away from me :). In central wi. I want that body I have never seen a good body like that from that vintage.

It would be a road trip, but they show up pretty often in the MT/WY area... still kicking myself on passing up the $1k 2.5 ton dodge last year.

Had a smooth bore tanker ( chemical ) for years , baffles are for pussies.:lmao:

Thought of you the other day. We had a contractor show up to crush our waste rock into "pebbles". We run it through our ore sorter and the stuff with gold goes in one pile to run through the mill, the rest goes into a reject pile. The stuff in the reject pile then gets hauled away on a barge to build an airport on an island somewhere. They showed up with a brand new like never had a rock in it sandvik 2 piece jaw and cone mobile setup. The 1st issue was the liner in the cone would only process 3/4"- and the jaw could only get down to 2" or 3"-, lucklily the right bowl liner was in town and got a helicopter ride out to site. They had it running for 2 hours while the Sandvik guy was here, heard a odd noise in one of the motors that shut it down. It turns out there was a cat bag of small platic parts from the initial build living in the intake that killed the turbo. There's a new trubo somewhere between texas and southeast Alaska headed up as quick as possible now. We'll see how this new piece of shinny equipment holds up this summer.

Lol new equipment issues. New machines suck in that they always take a while to get working right. I like to buy them used that way they have a few years of refining done to them, that and the price isn’t absolutely ridiculous. What models are shiny new iron?

How does the ore sorter work? That sounds like either a really high tech machine or 30 Mexicans standing alongside a belt picking rock.

What size is the ore they are gonna process? I’m picturing perfect 8” and smaller rock. If that’s the case the contractor is a retard and should have purchased a sandvik cs cone. I really really want one but i cannot justify one. That and they are pretty new and not many in my price range used ones yet.

the big guys around here have replaced one of their 400 hp cones with a 300 hp cs series cone and gained 100-200 more ton a hour l, they are awesome. The increase come from the fact most plants are waiting on the jaw to munch the shit down to 4”. The smart guys place a cs cone in between the jaw and plant. The cs cone will take 14” down to 3” in a fucking hurry. That way the Jaw is just busting the big stuff down to 10”. It’s pretty amazing.

If I was doing pure hard rock all the time I would own one. Enough with the crusher school today need to get to work lol.

The ore sorter is a Tomra, I haven't dug into how it works but I know it uses some sort of radiation to figure out which rocks have gold/ the potential to have gold vs. what's junk. It was originally purchased to rerun pebbles out from our ball mill and it was succesful at that. They are trying it with out waste rock this summer. I believe it likes to run 3/4"-.

Our waste rock is anything from fines to 2' + boulders, our geology is kinda screwy and there is some decent ore in our waste piles, and once in a while a haul truck driver might dump good ore into the worng pile. This crusher has a magnet belt on it which is a good thing since there's a ton of rock bolts, hog wire, and other trash in it. Another issue we have is we don't have a lot of room for waste rock in our permit and we try and get rid of as much as we can. This summer it's costing us to have them on site but we should come out ahead.

I'll have to grab model numbers tomorrow, I think it's a QJ341 and a QS332 but I could be wrong.

Had a interesting day this week. The boys called up and said a wheel fell off the stacking conveyor. I get this photo sent to me.

That’s not fucking good. That is the radial leg joint on a 110’ stacking conveyor. If the radial feature doesn’t work the stacker is pretty much useless. They finished the day without having to move the conveyor around. So I got up early the next morning rounded up everything I needed to get this fixed. So after a hour of pulling with 2 3/4” all threads I was able to get the tube sucked back up. I put about 20 passes on and thought shit this went way to well.

This is where my education began. I fired up the Hydraulics and proceeded to try out my fix. Well fuck me as soon as it started to pick off the ground the fucking bottom snapped. Now it’s screwed as there is no way I was gonna put a good weld from the bottom 18” off the ground. So we ended up folding it up and rolling it home.

Thank the sweet baby Jesus my local metal supplier had a chunk of 8” x .5” wall dom laying around. I cut off the old piece and replaced it with a new tube. This was the easy part.

The hard part was getting the pivot tube out of the leg. 2 hours of heating and pounding to get that fucker out.

508779BE-0D21-4E10-9933-2691F67E42FA.jpeg

I lost a full days worth of work but got it fixed. It should be good for the next 20 years. The reason it broke was rust built up and expanded the tube cracking it. Here she is all fixed up and ready for some work.

How could you not weld it 18" off the ground? I would have done it for the cost of a plane ticket just to get to see your operation
