Panzers: I break rocks thread

It's a pretty big difference.
777 vs 783, 100 ton vs 177 ton

Can a driver hurt a truck like that? I know he can tip it over, but I mean can he over rev the engine or smoke the clutch or something?
They tell on themselves so what little a driver can do will hit the daily report for the plant manager.

Engine over speed is pretty easy if you just YOLO off the ramp. There's plenty of braking help so it's pretty abusive to let that happen.

I bet changing the air filters in that thing costs more than Panzer just paid for his new ride.

That's the crazy part of some of these machines.

There is a pin on that mono boom 988 that I bet is close $14k it might be more now actually.

The cat guys are pulling oil samples on the 600 for me:smokin:. If the 988 had a normal boom I may have swung the extra money for it but I don’t think I would be a fan of the mono boom deal.

700 series is the CAT number for haul truck.

The other two numbers are the size but the numbers generally aren't connected to anything, just indicating bigger number is bigger truck, excavator, dozer etc.

In 3xx excavator world is it not Mtons, 322 is a 22 metric ton roughly equivalent machine like a 220 Deere or komatsu?

Yeah but they recently changed all the numbers so I can't be sure if they went towards the actual tonnage or away from it, it would make sense though. These marketing pricks fuck everything up IMO.

330 > 336
365 > 374
385 > 390
etc.

Then on the dozers they moved everything below D6 High Track down 2 numbers, D6 high track is still D6.
Low Tracks
D6 > D4
D5 > D3
D4 > D2
D3 > D1

And CTL's moved down as well.
259 > 255
289 > 265
299 > 285

I heard they were doing this right around the time I stopped working in the field. I can't imagine how much that fucked people up for the first couple years. And I still don't get why they did it.

When I started, we had the D6R and D6N mostly LGPs with an XL here and there. Then the Ks and the Ts popped up and nothing made sense any more.

Have you spent any time around any of the hybrid diesel/electrics? How are they holding up? We demo'd one probably 4 years ago and they almost bought it but backed out at the last minute. The fuel numbers they claimed were impressive and they were trying to entice you with like a 10k hour warranty on them. Instead we bought a brand new conventional diesel machine and something fucked off in the hydraulics within the first 20 hours and it was down for close to 2 months.

To quote a mine mechanic "you can't make anything miner proof, just miner resistant."

It's a pretty big difference.

Mostly big dirt contractors that bought them but they absolutely love them.
I haven't ran into a operator yet that doesn't live them.

The track steering power is huge, full torque at any speed, normal electric motor stuff.
We've had some generator bearing failures but there really isn't any wrong with them that's not normal shit.

The fuel numbers are real, one outfit bought 18 of them.

I feel like we're fucking up Panzers thread:homer:
This is the one customer I mentioned.
There are plenty of others, much more successful machine than the D7E was, by design I imagine.

Was, working a job dude flipped the cab on its side trying to slide the rear end around in the mud. Bed was empty, buddy climed up in it fired it up, put it in reverse and righted the cab. Operator got in and drove off, after cleaning his ass in the woods. It was a 40T Deere

RIP :flipoff2:

Just kidding hope he lets you and him both ride off into the sunset smoothly.
Got a ticket for a bad step on an excavator. Other than that he knew I was not dealing with his bullshit today. Zero chit chat and I barely answered the questions. As soon as you say too much they get you. They are trained by the fbi to do interrogations. What they do is make small talk, talk about hunting or some shit like that, then in the middle ask you a mining related question to catch you off guard. I don’t play those games.

You're gonna get something, that one should be easy to smooth out.
