Panzers: I break rocks thread

I used to own a 91 HD 3500 single wheel Chevy truck. I'd use a tape measure to measure loads of rock and sand, 3 1/2" of drop was 4000 lbs. The guy on the loader had to get out and ask how I knew that every time I loaded. I showed him the calibrated sharpie lines on the left bedside :lmao:
:lmao:

but I'm the guy that throws dollars away with extreme prejudice in order to pick pennies up
I've never that impression of you. Quite the opposite.

You don’t need to worry I spend it just as fast as I make it:homer:. Between fuel wages and parts it eats cash. Today was $750 in a set of new injectors for my 980f
My favorite thing about this thread. :flipoff2:

Anytime it's for something that says cat and it's under $1k is a decent day.
These are old school pencil injectors, the 980 was getting easy to stall at an idle. Ran the overhead today and just looked to see what a set of injectors cost because they have 8000 hours on them. When they said 144 a pop I said why not I’m allready under the valve cover.

My favorite thing about this thread. :flipoff2:
Got this bill today :homer:

haha the joys of having tools in many places

Fuckin hell man, I've got tools spread across five shops and about 90-100 miles, now.
I really gotta do that RV skoolie service truck I been thinking about.
Just gotta wait a few months so when I transfer the title on the bus I don't gotta buy a full year's worth of plates as a bus only to trade them in for RV plates...
Service body trailer. Because we all know you're gonna get yourself in a bind and need to move it with the VW.

So I’m finally gonna try it. I have all the shit to do it, the liner will be needing to get changed in a few weeks so why not.

I am gonna put one pass of a Lincore 50 type hard surface on my liners before we install them. The theory is put down a layer of hardsurface to protect the manganese until it can work harden itself. This hard surface isn’t all that really hard but it’s made to take the impact.

I got it in a .049 wire, I wanted 1/16 but that was a ways out. It’s a flux core wire so no sheild gas required. I could use c02 to help reduce the smoke but I have the shop doors open.

My huge ass rotary table works pretty awesome for this. A cheap single phase to 240 3 phase vfd controls the speed. My engine hoist with some Chinese weld gun holder bolted to the end of it. My switch to turn the welder on and off from my bore repair kit and I’m good to go. Pretty halfassed but works surprisingly well:lmao:.

Takes about 3.5 mins a pass. Got a bolt on the table to mark where I need to crank it up for the next pass. The Amazon torch holder has a rack and pinion that does this easily. I just had to match the pitch of the rack with that of the liner.

Only had one screw up so far. First outlet I plugged the welder into was only on a 50 amp breaker. I popped that bitch after 30 mins of continuous welding. Still learning how everything is wired up in the new shop.

Hopefully it will be worth it. It’s gonna take 6 hours or so to put one pass on.

I was cleaning up around the washplant with the asv skidsteer and sheared off the drive key between the motor and sprocket. I wasn’t in the mood to work on it out in the mud. So toss some forks on the loader and carry it into the shop:lmao::smokin:

Too bad the bulldog doesn't have thumbs. put his ass to work burning wire for you!
He would fall asleep between passes. Little fucker has it good now, working from home. Kids are off from school so he just lays around all day.

One of today’s projects. Pinion seal is leaking and I’m just about out of throw to adjust the backlash. Time for a new set of bearings.

Taking it to the dealer to have them swap it out. Pinion needs to be pressed off and it’s a pain to do.

It’s crazy how large the pinion is. That pinion is good for a continuous 400hp for 30,000 hr+:lmao:

The little one is a 22224 double roller spherical and the big one is a 452324. Probably close to 3k in bearings between the two. Big one od is 240 mm with a Id of 120mm

Parts guys could not tell me the cost. They are caught up in the last weeks hack of the guys who own the software. He was able to walk out to the storeroom and put his hands on all the parts so off it went.

is that the one that hit automotive shops too and nobody can charge time or order parts or some shit? saw some pics of empty shops because of system outages of some sort

1500lb pinion/bearing setup:laughing:

Yeah the same program I believe. It’s a big time problem. He said 15,000 dealerships were without computer access.

Dealer got it apart. Looks like it’s going to the machine shop to get the bores sprayed and recut.

Set up the Bug-o and gave it a shot. Was a ton better but need to get the weaver working to get a wide weld.

I really need to put my big girl panties on and learn how to build up that tube. $7000 and 2-3 weeks to repair. :mad3: $9800 to expedite it in a week and a half or $15,000 for a new tube tomorrow.

Gonna go the cheapest route and figure it out from there:lmao:.
