What's new

Next on the ever growing list of things I didn't need.

Home with the Olds, turns out to be a one owner car, but has been sitting better than a decade. Very little rust, true old man car. Looks better in the rain..

How much you want for the Olds? I haven't made my yearly stupid purchase yet...
I'll take offers, I bought it mostly for a flip anyways. It being clown world and all I haven't really looked to where I would price it yet. I'd like to see if I can get the 455 to roar to life though.

If you get it running and want to unload it, let me know. Looks like it should get good gas mileage

Perfect car for record fuel prices.

The battery in it was from 05, So it's been parked a good 15-17 years. Did find that it has a lifetime Midas muffler and shocks from 1983 so there's that going for it.
Put a battery in and it cranks good, lights and wipers all work. No spark even after filing points. Started raining so I called it quits for the evening.

I believe my grandfather had that car when when I was a kid. Same color and everything. If I get over to my dad's house and remember, I'll look for a picture. Comfy big boat to ride in.

Sooo. Sold the 63 Chevy truck, Too much rust. Kept the engine I rebuilt. Got the 72 olds to fire and run on the bottle but just wasn’t feeling it as a project car so I sold it and did ok on it. Next up on the list of cars i didn’t need is an 84 GMC Caballero. Just a stock unmolested car but runs and drive great. Got that a few weeks ago. Today i made a trade for a 54 Chevy bel air. Runs and drives, just doesn’t stop.

that's a cool Electra - how's the interior?
No bad, not great. Ive done some cleaning on it but still sort of mousy, Top of back seat is blown out and needs a head liner. Im trying to get it road reliable first, then I’ll probably strip the interior for a deep clean. So far it’s got a new fuel tank, new brakes, tuneup abd a carb kit. Last licensed in 1985, could smell the lead burning off the valves when the 455 first started up.

Thats awesome...my grandparents had one they towed their travel trailer with. :smokin:

In case anyone was wondering, this is a good example of how a SOS pad wash and a 50/50 Linseed oil and mineral spirits treatment turns out.
BLO or raw? Have a bunch of surface rust on my Nova that Ive been debating whether to clear or do the linseed thing until it gets paint...

was wondering how many hours of scrubbing/buffing went into that. Nice vintage look.

The best pure stuff Montgomery Ward has to offer. Found this can in my grandpa’s stuff 20 years ago when he passed and still using it, a little goes a long ways. I would NOT do this if you have any plan of painting in the future, as you would be fighting fisheyes. Probably have a easy day scrubbing it with dollar store SOS pads with a buddy mostly just to remove the rust staining in whatever paint is left. We tried the buffer with some cutting compound but it just clogged the pad so we gave up on that pretty quick. The Linseed oil is just wiped on maybe 20 minutes to do the whole car, the mineral sprits help it dry into a waxy coating.

I don't like the oiled rust look, looks too much like clearcoated rust, which looks too much like painted on fake rust

Understandable, to each their own. I see it more as a preservative, especially in the humid Midwest.. This car has an honest, sat in field for 40 years patina. I like the level of sunbaked paint, bare metal, and surface rust and the general lack of real rust holes. This treatment will keep it where it is for the most part but is temporary. It will dull out and wash off over time and can be easily reapplied for the shine again.

Hello, My name is Justin and I admit I have a problem...

Also been playing with the Electra interior, Couldn't find any vintage looking seat covers and hate having a blanket wad up every time I sit down, so I went with these covers. I kind a like it but still undecided if I'll leave them on

Also been working on the 54's interior, Pulled the seat covers from the 60's off it, the seat back is original, and in great condition, but the bottom was rough, so I had mom teach me how to use her the sewing machine. Using the old cover as a pattern, I think it came out pretty good for a first try. It's a lot more comfortable since I put in new foam and repaired a few springs. Installed new carpet, which it desperately needed. Still need to do back seat bottom but that's not as pressing as the front was.
