What's new

New Ford Duallys are 6+ months out?

I always thought old boomers could drive 60,000 lb RV/trailer combos with no CDL?

That's what the IBB guys always say in CDL threads.
No CDL is correct but they do need a different class of license, not C.

That law changed and you were correct.

Here's the most comprehensive list of registration shit I've seen, I screenshot several interesting points.

There's variances state to state, the above flow chart is pretty cut n dry on how TX views it.
TX follows the federal rules, 26k GCWR max unless the trailer GVWR is under 10k, then you can go to 36k GCWR.
The whole 26k number is very outdated, but DOT isn't going to budge on a money maker.
Exactly, in this day and age a 15-25k goosneck trailer behind a modern dually, or a 12-14k trailer behind a modern 1 ton SRW isn't a big deal and shouldn't require a CDL.

I can could get my CDL but cant get my medical card due to some head issues. Currently have my truck registered in Va @ 10k and my trailer @ 15k to get around it. As far as putting DRW hubs on a F250 the axle housing widths are different between SRW, F350 DRW and F450 DRW so no it wont work.

Tell me you're a cheap fuck without saying it......

1.5k for a new take off dually bed isn't a crazy price. Even 3k sounds reasonable still having to paint it. 5k is dumb and that one will never sell and you know that.

Please post a new takeoff $300 SRW bed. I live in the land of pickups with flatbed conversions and they are not that cheap around here.
What color of white single rear wheel Ford fleet side bed do you want?

Where is "around here"? I was considering getting a dually bed if I can find one in Stone Gray (doubtful, one year only color on a one year only, until 2024, bed).

I searched around here, and they are all white beds and they wany crazy prices (1.5k to 5k). No wonder they aren't selling. I did find SRW beds for $300 new (takeoff).
I'm a fucking liar now? :shaking:

Here are a couple ads for $300, 2023 beds. I couldn't find the ad that came up last time I searched (earlier today). That guy had a bunch of white 2023 beds for $300. FBMP search sucks. I did find a bunch of cheaper dually beds that didn't come up on my last search.

There is not much demand for the 2023 bed. All the sellers seem to be sitting on them. I should have ordered a white truck. The last two trucks I've bought were white just so I could replace the beds before I sold them. I beat a truck bed to death.

$300. The ad is 9 weeks old BECAUSE THERE IS NO DEMAND FOR NEW TRUCK BEDS!

Another $300.

Bed $500 This is a big local reseller, he just bought a 1999 bed and tailgate from me. I'd say he knows the market as well as anyone for use SD Ford parts. I figured he would be high as hell. I'm calling him tomorrow.

Looks like you found most of them. Seems like most of the non standard colors were in Michigan and upstate ny. Best bet I found for finding color match is fbmp that color then bed/ tailgate/ bumper ect l.

stay under combined weight of 26,001. my trailers have already been 'derated' to 15,500. At some point you have to make the weights believable.

The flow chart above explains it well. If i stay under 26k combined i dont have to run txdot numbers, books, etc. My insurance is also cheaper. A lot of headaches avoided.

do tell. DMV wont let me derate a truck, even spoke to regional managers. What the sticker on the door/pillar says, it what it is. not like ford is going to mail you another VIN tag. you can no longer build a dually with a 10k gvw.

hook a 14k trailer to that truck and you need a CDL. what the plates say really dont mattter.

If Im having to build a truck, Im damn sure not wasting money on a new one.

If you look around you can find “new 2-3yrs old” trucks with light damage for 50% or more off “retail” prices. If you are going to be modifying it, doesn’t really make sense to start win a new new truck.

You could probably run 19.5s and be fine as long as you don’t go crazy.

Here's another FAQ for registration, empty weight and carrying capacity.
I realize this isn't changing the gvw but it does change the registered capacity no?
Maybe I'm on the wrong shit I don't know.

You're focusing on carrying capacity. That number can be changed, but it really doesn't matter. Everytime sell a truck, I make up that number till i get it right. It's like the IRS, DMV knows exactly what range it's suppose to be, but won't tell you. But will tell you if it's wrong.

Your not actually changing the GVWR of the truck, you're just saying carrying vs empty.

The 'commercial' $110 registration isn't till 14k.

DOT doesn't give a fuck about manufacturer towing capacity either. It's all made up numbers and phrases to generate revenue.

So if the DOT doesn't care about the sticker either whats the rub?

I fucked that link up above for the fee schedule but I don't see the fees starting at 14k

The $103k GMC dually my buddy bought last month killed a AC tube that's unobtainable.
AC-Delco 15-35070
I said take that to the local hyd shop and have it fixed...

They are going to get with the GM rep and try and find a line that can be bought...
They found one at another dealer but they will not transfer it.

All night at the bar tonight we gave him shit about driving a gay man's Chevy...

While all y'all mechanic type experts are up in this dually thread, can a 2023 F250 get a front and rear hub swap off of a DRW F350 and be GTG for dually wheels and F350 DRW axle widths?

Would the 19.5 F450 wheels work on an F350, as far as scrubbing fenders/suspension/whatnot? There are several F450 takeoff sets on FBMP.

I figure swap in the rear springs, too, and I'd be pimpin'.
Front could swap hubs. Rear axles are different. Lug pattern is different from F350 to F450.

For those buying used what were you paying? Looking at another 7.3 lariat ultimate 4x4 cclb 80k miles for 40k. Seems expensive but a can’t find any long beds that aren’t xl which generally means beat to hell. Pricing a new one out it’s about 50% of msrp though

Used market here is all over the place. Some 3-4 year old, gently used well optioned trucks are approaching 60% of new MSRP, some 3-4 year old used trucks are still more expensive than a similar new one. Depends entirely on how much the dealer overpaid for the trade. Someone has the rip the band-aid off sooner or later and I don't think it'll be the buyer

That is my experience as well shopping for the last few months. Some wtf prices others not bad but they are usually gone in a week or less. Don’t mind taking a hit but trying not to get hosed. Long story short my dad started working for me again and he needs a truck, he’s got back problems so needs the heated seats if I don’t want to hear him bitch 24/7.

What year is this truck?

2021

That's what I sent him either or.
I think they are going to tell him to get fucked but we'll see, he is a bigger fleet customer.
i welded one up last year for a buddy that works for Oncor, 5500 chevy with 6k miles. same shit, said there were none available. at the start of summer, he was like Please!
