What's new

New Ford Duallys are 6+ months out?

Yeah just my 350 at 14k GVW is $125 a year.

I de-rated it to 10k to save the money every year. I'm illegal pulling the camper and sxs but YOLO
could be worse; a 14k plate is 288/ yr in Nc but our plates are based on actual gcw of truck & trailer so say you wanted to plate for combined truck & trailer of 20k it’s $450

Post road trip update.
DPF % is now showing a increasing number again. I left it in auto regen since we got back. (This is normal IMO)

DEF range is increasing. When I got home a full tank had a estimated range of 1400 miles and a half tank was giving me 500 mile to empty warning. The gauge is still showing full from when I refilled it.
Range is now at 2252 miles to a tank.

Unloaded mileage is back to good and increasing, 60 mile trip this morning to volleyball tournament.
We'll see what it is when I get back home.

That sucks, I assume it balances out some how.

Have y'all actually driven any of the newer single cab pickups? They're cramped as fuck with how big all the interior shit is on everything now. I wouldn't touch anything without at least an extended cab anymore.

We have a 23 f-450 with a 7.3 at work. Isn't any more cramped than our 02 F-550

Own one. No need for a useless back seat with just the wife and I.

Plus the goddamn thing turns like a forklift.

but I love the 48 gallon fuel tank with the Land yacht wheel base of the 4 door more.
Pretty much this, although it can hurt putting in 40+ gallons at a time. . I don't drive my truck in town or commute in it, so IDGAF how big the truck is. I park it in the barn and again DGAF if it fits in a standard garage. I love having the crew cab to store shit out of the weather and having a real 8' bed.:flipoff2:

Cramped? They are massive compared to anything before 2000.

I think we've found the guy who gained weight from skinny tweaker to old man since 2000:lmao:

:flipoff2:

Did the 60 miles back home and another trip up North for 100 miles.

Things are getting back to normal.
I was beginning to think my poor mileage on the '18 could have been related to the 5-40 "severe service" oil.
That doesn't seem to matter.

I won't really know until the next fill up.

i drove mine into work yesterday and bought a set of 40s after work. i got 14.4 for the trip with my 7.3 gas pig. it felt like a hot rod, i never drive it without the trailer being attached.
How does it do stop and go mileage wise? Last 3/4 ton I had a a 6.4, and it was round 8-9. Had a Chevy 6.0 before that with a solid 7-8 average.

if you really think youre getting 14.4, youre lying to yourself. I have a 7.3 and I am at a solid 12.5 babying it.

What gears are both of you running?

I drive a single cab 1st gen tacoma most days. Even a single cab OBS ford has a ton of room compared to the yota. Neither are bad though....it does help that I'm not fat:flipoff2:

Went on a road trip yesterday over the Cascade mountains. Drove 282 miles, used 19 gallons. 3.73 gears, 7.3 gas

14.84 mpg

In the back of my mind I've wanted to order a basic F450 regular cab dually with a 7.3 to replace my 97 but I'm still not convinced.

Info like this doesn help the case either. :lmao:

Same. Not to replace, but to put to work.

Hope you want a cab and chassis. My wife just had to have the 450 once she drove it. I didn't want the diesel but wanted a happy wife so that's what we ordered. I wanted to order a 450 with 7.3 gasser but it's not available in the "pickup" version, just derated C&C. I didn't want to deal with a bed conversion.

450 pickup with the 7.3 mildly breathed on would be a sweet rig.

Then I realized this. Can't derate to c&c to 10k either, only 15k. I'm out.

I wouldn't be mad at a single cab version of this with a 7.3. Pickup beds and dually fenders are overrated.

That's an ~$8000ish bed. While cool, can't turn a profit on a fancy bed. I R not pipeline welder.

Wish ford wasn't queer and still ran a ZF6 too.

In Texas at least you can register it for whatever you want though right?

Not that im aware of. I'm going to inquire on Tuesday when I derate my 20k trailer to 15,500. Even that requires sending white slip to manufacturer and getting a new VIN sticker.

i see people every day that think they are babying it. they have no idea how to drive for mileage. i have checked mine to hand calculations 3 times all ways within a 10th. and mine is a crew cab long bed 4x4.
i had a buddie that had a duramax, never got over 17 in it. i busted 20 first tank on a trip.

I don't know about legality wise but my '18 was definitely Texas registered for 10k.
It was a fuck up on the dealers part when my wife called to bitch them out about the "new" registration being good for only one year instead of the 2 a normal vehicle gets. I later found out vehicles over 10k GVW don't get two year new vehicle registration and noticed on the paperwork they had derated it to 10k to get the 2 year time frame she complained about.
I didn't change it.

We're the same. Commercial tags get registered every year as opposed to every other.

On the plus side, anything over 10K is emissions exempt.

there are clutch pedals, linkages, etc. in the parts catalog for south of the border. No idea on the trans, but eventually if I keep the truck, I was going to look into this further and try to order some of those parts.

I might be showing my ass here...
Other than "for fun" transmission seems like one of the tougher parts of the truck.
I am sure they blow up but at the size of the 6R140 components they should be near bulletproof at stockish 400hp power levels.

Does a travel trailer get you out of having to have a CDL?

DRW truck 14k GVWR and any TT over 12k GVWR will put you over 26k.

CK, you derated your truck to 10k. What if you get stopped and the steer and rear are over 10k? isn't that a $1k-$2k ticket?

Do ya'll stop at weigh stations (I don't).
