What's new

New Ford Duallys are 6+ months out?

I guess I'm not following. Software isn't good out of the box? I don't understand. Dumb it down for me
Software used to be vetted, tested to all limits so when a product was sold the software was usually the same for it's whole life.

It's easier now to put out a minimum working product and fix the issues as they arise with updates. These updates were supposed to be OTA (over the air) but even that wasn't done correctly so it has to get a physical update then future updates will (hopefully) be OTA.

I'll also say my Dad or some of you guys would never notice any of this shit I'm talking about, it's nerd shit.

Well technically two "items" both are supposed to be OTA update able but aren't...

The rest is just observation compared to my other truck, drivetrain etc. maybe it's broke no idea.

If you haven't been paying attention software is no longer good to go out the box, I'll keep you posted so you don't have to wonder...

You still happy with the spend?

I regret getting rid of the 2016…

$400 isn’t a high powered lawyer. Get with the times. :flipoff2: Firm my wife works for bills out their lower attorneys at $400 and they are a smaller firm that is supposed to be “cheap”. “High powered” attorneys are $700-1200 an hour.

Yeah for sure no issue there. Like I said before this truck cost me $36k, no brainer.

We like it much better, comfort wise (messaging seats) and the Sync 4 with video camera in motion was awesome, o could check all cameras while driving which was really useful for keeping a eye on the running generator, water tank in the bed, and hitch camera even trailer rear view camera when trying to turn out around.

10 speed is bad ass 3.55 is undecided :lmao:
It's not bad but you can tell the difference from 4.10 to 3.55 no doubt. A dude on FTE has 34" tires and 3.31 gears trying to tell me it's "perfect " for what I have no idea...

Just took delivery of 5 three quarter ton Rams, to join the other 4-5 we already have. Damn I hope they don't have to go back to the dealership for software fixes all the time. That would be a really big problem.

A coworker just bought a super duty. I'll inquire about how it's going for him and any fixes he's had to have done. I think it's about 5 months old?

I honestly much prefer the 6 speed to the 10.

And the ergonomics were better for me in the 16.

Shrug

I am still enjoying my 2022 F350. I have 20,000km's on it now, will have owned it for a year this August. Only issue I have had is no one told me the vacuum operated locking hubs won't lock in -20 and below. Found that out sliding into a small ditch on my ice covered road at the start of winter. Took out the stupidly low front valance. Why did they put a curb hitting valance on a 4x4 truck? I replaced it with a 2wd one which is way shorter.

-45c the heated seats and steering wheel sure are nice. I haven't had any other issues.

My truck barely uses any Def. Not sure if that is normal, I have done maybe 3 fills since owning the truck, but I do zero city driving, its all highway and the town I typically go to only has 4 or 5 traffic lights if that, and usually I only hit one.

I don't have a Ford but I can go 3-4 months without getting off 100% if there's no towing or loaded heavy. 1500-2k# in the bed doesn't seem to count as towing

My truck showed 7500 miles of range on the full tank. But at some point in the trip that changed and a 1/2 tank was only going to be good for 500 miles.

It's possible the DEF I topped off with before the trip was watered down and so the usage goes up drastically because all vehicles are required to have DEF quality sensors.

I refilled it at the same station Sunday so maybe I will pull a sample and check it.

my 19 duramax used plenty of def, that was the main reason i got rid of it. fucking irritated the piss out of me.
coworker has a company 2020 1500 AT4 with the little Duramax diesel in it. i think his drinks urea like crazy.

which is a completely unrelated issue to the transmission blowing at 55,000 miles with zero towing time.

My 23 gmc hardly uses any def either. That’s one of the things I was worried about when buying it. Got 10,000 plus miles on it and have added def a couple of times. Never close to empty. It seems to be a non issue that I was worried about.

Its normal for the truck to use DEF towing heavy or in high load (wind etc.) conditions but the 1/2 tank to 500 mile range seemed pretty wild.
Maybe the gauge was slow to respond and it was actually lower than that because I added 2.5 gallons and it moved barely over half.

I really think a OTA update either fucked up and didn't complete or it only updated half the modules or something.
The DEF % that is now stuck on 0 is a parameter that I added via Forscan, not something you would even know about for 99% of the truck owners, not something I would consider broken at the moment.

My 19 Ram was my first DEF truck. That thing sucked it down. And why have a 5-5.5 gal tank, when available jugs are 2.5. Constantly filling at "1/4" get to "3/4". No truck stops near where I was then. Apparently with the 19+ Rams, they cut down on EGR and added DEF usage.

Current 18 Ram uses about half according to some tracking I've done. Also able to get it at the pump near the house. Probably "stop" using it soon.

Long valance for fuel mileage...
Not sure why they don't put the retractable valance from the F150 on there...

Now that the warranty is over on my 18, I went to the DEF low usage model :grinpimp:. I threw in a tuner when I bought it just to bypass the DEF if it gave me drama. I had a few codes that went away, but it's throwing the dice in winter around here. Other than that I love the 18, and it only takes a few hours to delete, and go back if necessary.

Lulz. $250?? You ain't kept up with inflation. $350-$400 is the new $250 guy/girl letterhead

Right . We change 250/hr for kids straight out of their bachelors and we sure aren't high powered lawyers, just consultants. Our outside council cost $$$$/hr.

My neigbour who lives off grid, has an 2020 and only plugs his truck in when he absolutely has to since he needs his generator running to do so. (These things draw a lot of power between the block heater and the def tank heater...) but he did have his def tank freeze solid last winter.

Later this past spring he had one of his DEF tank sensors mess up (my guess due to being frozen), telling the truck it was empty and told him it was going into limp mode in so many miles and he was in the middle of nowhere.

I am bit worried about that, but we saw the block heater add a fair bit to our power bill, so I ran mine on digital timer setup

I'd be curious what Ford says to do for sub zero def storage.
If I was in that position it might be worth it up just drain the DEF and refill as needed, or install stick on tank heaters.

Use as needed with block heater, obviously I know nothing about cold life...

Timer works fine, it only needs a few hours. I’ve started mine below zero with no block heater without drama lots of times. At -20 or colder I try and be nice with the block heater plus it helps getting cab heat faster.

DEF tank has a heater, but freezing is what seems to screw up the DEF system and trigger the 125 miles until shutdown message. It’s not like we are always 125 miles from a dealer shop around here. It’s total crap anyway.

The DEF tank on the new trucks has a heater. I will try and remember to throw an amp meter on next winter to see what its drawing.

Yeah I try and get it plugged in at -15c and below when its sitting overnight. We can get to -45c at times during the winter, I don't feel like dealing with a frozen truck.

All our stuff uses engine coolant DEF heaters, not electrical, only after the engine is up and running the coolant is circulated through the cooler coil.
