I ran it to 100% just for you so I could get the photos.

And damn it stinks
Yeah mine doesn't ever say that. I think the plain English portion of the options I must of missed.

Thanks for showing it though.

What's the idea behind trying to manually regen? Why not just let it do its thing? In my work truck, I rarely ever notice it cleaning.
I think the idea is that it doesn't start a regen between my house and the hardware store 2 miles away then get stopped when I get out of the truck to only restart and get stopped again when I get back home.

I got stuck over the last few weeks at 100% but no long trips to take. So I eventually turned regen on and let it go down to 85%. It would have been nice probably to do a parked Regen in that case.

Welp, my 2019 6.7 service truck just hit 167K miles and it's starting to become a problem....

The transmission has been doing weird things and slamming up and down ito gear so hard it feels like I'm getting rear ended by a truck. Only happens when it's warm and shifts fine otherwise.

Also the fucking engine keeps loosing boost. I'll drive it one time and it makes the normal 35+ psi and other times it won't go over 5lbs of boost. Code says boost actuator is bad but it comes and goes so randomly that I'm not so sure it's the part and not the wiring. I'm not allowed to work on it so off to the dealer it goes.

I keep trying to tell the owner it's time to order a new C&C so i can swap the bodys. $100 says they won't do anything about it until the ONLY service truck we have in Texas is broken and unusable. They act like the milage charge we pass on to the customer doesn't cover the cost of the truck. Even at $1 a mile truck is long since paid for.....

Tripping over dollars to pick up pennies. :shaking:

Crazy, my 19 work truck just hit 30k miles

I probably average like 40 miles a day though.

What's yours wiegh? I wonder if a class 6 truck would be better. Not like these 550s get good fuel mileage.

I don't want to do a short trip and have the truck in the middle of a Regen when I get home and have to wait until it gets full again to finish.

Not sure what you mean, you do something special when it starts to regen?

It rolls around at 18,650lbs give or take a few hundred depending on how full or empty the oil and waste tanks are.

I want nothing to do with any truck that requires a CDL or commercial plates. My 550 is registered same as any regular passenger car. Gotta love Texas.... :grinpimp:

Every state is different, but as long as you're not air brake, a ln F650 or equivalent should not be cdl. We have a class 7 peterbuilt pumper and it's so much more truck than the F550 is laughable, I'd think you could get the same basic truck with out air brakes.

The exhaust gets hot

No shit?:flipoff2:

I mean does it say not to stop, or what? I've never seen mine say anything but it's cleaning a few times. I just drive it like any other rig.

But to what Carter said, yes, the 2 mile unloaded trips back and forth don't seem to be friendly to the emissions stuff.

Yeah he could run a "de-rated" 650/750.
I'm not sure you get much better in the terms of drivetrain (his boss would probably buy the 6.7/10R140 same as In his current truck.:flipoff2:

In my line of work hot shut downs of emission equipment causes problems. Usually just DEF injector failures but that is a problem.

Iirc, an F650 is rated for 26k, so it wouldn't have to be derated.

I feel like at that level, may as well go to a real mdt engine and trans. Although I've driven a few 6.7 and 1 V10 F650s and they weren't bad.

Ya, I get that, just never had my work truck say it's cleaning and to not shut it off.

But as much wieght as it pulls, it probably gets hot enough every day to clean its self.

CarterKraft short of spoon-feeding me, run the benefits of Forscan by me please. I've got a 22 with a 6.7 and 36k miles. Not entirely sure how long I'll keep it as I'm on the fence of getting away from future diesel issues and getting a 7.3 gasser.
I do like the idea of forced regens and such (dealt with Regen issues with our fleet of HDT at the lumberyard).
Gracias.

Like Levi said it just allows you to customize (with in the scope of the firmware) the truck.

There are a few options like turning off the double horn honk for keyless start fob vehicle exit is a big one but most of it is just cause I can type stuff. DPF % percent display, avg speed display, custom tpms pressures, chime disable - enable, police mode, Bambi mode, switch back turn signals etc.

The biggest benefit IMO is the ability to have a full feature scan tool.

It works on gas or diesel so you aren't really wasting money if you switch to a 7.3.

From the factory it won't say it's cleaning and it pisses me off. After being trained on off road equipment which does let the operator know when it's cleaning the filter and seeing what happens when customers repeatedly shut the equipment down while doing a cleaning I don't want to pay those repair bills. So I enabled the DPF % full display so I can watch it and see when the truck is performing a Regen and if I park while it's cleaning I'll let the truck cool off before shutting it off.

My first truck was a de-rated 750 with a 230hp C7 and CAT CX28 transmission, it was not a awesome driving experience. It probably was tough though.

It would do 32 mph up Ranger hill :lmao:

C7 is just a newer 3126. Solid meh. MDT lineup was always subpar though.

Now it's all 6.7L cummins, 250-300k engine at best. The old days of rods and mains on a dt466 @500k is over. All shit now.

Yep.

I would say the repairs would probably be easier in a MDT chassis, tilt hood etc.

On road CAT powered are getting long in the tooth, I love me a 6NZ. I see very few CAT tractors, and it's still gangbusters around here.

The days of buying a tractor, in frame, send it again are over. Better off to play the write off game and budget that monthly payment...

Until it goes down for emissions and sits in the shop for 3+ months.

Arent the new F650+ allison or 6Rwhatever?

There is a new/old engine deal happening...
I don't have the total details but you can turn in ANY C15-C18 core on a a NCE (new content engine)

And combined with a "re-rate" fee there are some guys swapping Detroits, Cummins etc. to 6NZ engines.
It was explained to me from the Truck center parts manager to be a big deal.
I don't know.

Holt truck center

My 2017 work truck is just under 23,000 miles. 11,000 hours though.

T880 is at 7,000 miles and 5,000 hours.

Two trips to town 52 miles round trip.
60 mph speed limit ran 70+ the whole way both times pulling my 16' "motorcycle" trailer with 1000 lbs of sand and a sod cutter.

This truck gets so much better mileage than my '18 it is really amazing.
If I would stop leaving it idling and remote starting for 10+ minutes I think I could get up to 16 mpg avg.

FoMoCo stuck to their estimated lead time. Fair enough.
Not totally sold on going to the 7.3. But the potential repair cost of the diesel out of warranty is a consideration.

I think if you were ever to try a HD gas engine now is a good time.
