What's new

New Ford Duallys are 6+ months out?

Order books are still open on 2023 SD trucks.

Ordered one this morning and got a confirmation email from Ford this afternoon.

F250 XLT LWB CC 4x4 Gawd Ziller, 4.30's w/ locker, goose prep and a couple other à la cartes.

Sure am gonna miss a heated steering wheel.:frown:

Got it for just under invoice (X Plan). Best I could do in this market. MSRP $58,775. Paying $56,065.90. X Plan discount $2,709.10.
Plus $75 dealer service fee, tax, tag, title
Got an email from Ford yesterday.
They have my build scheduled for the week of 20 February 2023.

Peasant truck FTW!

What's you empty fuel mileage?
I get around 17 avaerage empty and 11-12 towing. So your towing numbers aren't far off at all. Especially with the cost of diesel these days.
Empty on the highway I get about 14.5MPG, that is on highways that range from 55-70 MPH speed limits. My main routes that I drive every week is from ABQ to Chama NM. I just drove that 180ish mile route with 3k in the bed and got 12.4MPG yesterday. Towing a trailer drops it into the single digits, especially at higher speeds. I don't speed, just set the cruise at the posted speed limit and stay in the right hand lane, 55-60MPH seems to be the sweet spot. Best full tank I got was:

Unexpected email yesterday from Ford, my truck got a vin and scheduled for production for the week of feb 20. But, it was coded priority 99 which should have been held til the production run 2, to add the black appearance package. So now the dealer is having to order me another truck, which is a tremor and they arent making many of them. So, TBD whether i get my truck as intended.

personally i put airbags on every truck i tow with, never ever had a problem. i also have the sxs rack and a travel trailer when on vacaction.

but thought i'd mention.... see that contact pad for the top over load spring? I think you'd be better off and just as cheap to take that pad off and install a bumpstop with a single stud there so it engages that spring earlier in travel. i did it once on an f350 that i was towing with before the airbag kit showed up and it worked as i wanted and wasn't at all noticeable when unladed.

i just looked thu my amazon history, and i believe these are the ones i used. the truck i used them on was a srw cclb f350 '10.

edit* also just because i thought i'd share. i just got back from a trip with a buddy we went ~3000mi round trip. S Glamis, N Glamis, and Havasu. one sxs on the rack and one in the trailer. all of our sand tires and extra shit. towed with his truck an f450 6.7, 6-speed trans. fully deleted, i think he said the tune claimed +100hp over stock. we would've saved a bit on fuel if we would have used my 6.2 gasser. towing mostly at 67-70mph. we ended the trip at 6.9mpg on the dash. $2,135 in fuel for the truck (anouther $700 in 91 gas for the buggies) i think the low gearing of the 450 hurt the mpg. we got the same when towing his massive 3axle momentum fifth wheel that was much heavier.

my 6.2 gasser 4.3 gears, i tow the same setup, and its a tiny bit slower over all, 65-70mph, but it always claims 7.5-8mpg. and with gas being cheaper and all, i'm happy to stick with gas.
That was my first move but I wanted to try the concept before having to wait on parts etc. It was a few hour job and I made my dad knock them out while I worked on something else.
I might need to revisit the idea:homer:

That sounds like a awesome trip too.

Buys $80k truck while talking about ordering another $80k truck immediately... complains about price of airbags? :flipoff2:
If I made it sound like a pure cost issue that ain't it.
Its just a preference thing, not enough good experience with them to make them worth fucking with.

Headed to Fort Worth for the hunting club meeting.
Also since I tried doing the OCR (operator commanded regen) on the way back it finally gave me the DPF full message so I enabled Auto Regen and it completed by the time I got home, I think I am going to like that feature.
Watching the fuel economy screen the regen has 5 ish MPG drop when its running. :shaking:

Mine kept the DPF above 70% for a few weeks so I finally disabled auto regen and performed a manual regen when I got home. Took about 20 minutes sitting in the driveway

Seems like airbags would have been a better choice, if you are not wanting to reach over the tires in shitty conditions and/or forget about height control. Yeah, they have more parts and pieces than what you installed. But they are pretty trouble free IME and everything can be controlled from the driver's seat. JMHO.
This.

I have airbags on my '18 Dually. I wasn't sure if I needed them until I put my toy hauler on the back loaded up. It needed them. Mine have been on and trouble free for almost 4 years now. They took a few hours to install, nothing too bad.

Laughs in Gawdzilla....:flipoff2:

I'm in KC tonight and just met a guy who picked up his f350 dually today from Granger. Doesn't happen to be one of ya'll does it?

Local dealer called me today, order banks opened up and they have a spot for me if I want it.
F350 FX4 Lariat with 7.3 and OEM GN kit
Price is right, I got the X plan price and they offered me fair for my current truck.
Probably gonna do it and wait and see if I sell or trade in current truck upon arrival of new one.

I don't know what I did to get the PCO that I got.
There are a bunch of theories and I did spend a decent amount of time on the site building different combos.

The drive axle weight is less than I anticipated.

No wonder why I always see newer F250 & F350s squatted.

Carry on, sir. I like your plan, nonetheless. I like the simplicity of overload leaf springs too.

Yeah the rear axle gross weight rating is 9900 lbs the rated payload is 5371, I might be pushing that not sure.
With 4 tires have around 15k in tire capacity so IMO nothing is being pushed to the limit with this setup.
I can also add move some weight around with the weight distribution bars if needed, I usually just go a little tighter than taking the slack out.

With the hitch I use I don't need the bars at all for the sway control to work so I just keep them tight enough to not have slack and have to worry about them falling out of the head etc.

New truck stickers, I can't find the ones from my old truck.

Crazy on how they have over 2.5 tons of “rated” payload capacity.

While my (significantly older) 3/4 ton truck with 8,800lbs mfg GVWR have as little as 1/2 of ton “rated” payload.

I had pushed my rear axle weight into 7000lbs range and and did not put headlight into trees. 100% factory stock suspension.

They have to be springing them for comfort (fine by me) and using the overloads to handle the weight but that severly affects the attitude of the truck when loaded enough to get on the overloads.

I am still going to build some adjustable uppers, they provide awesome Roll stability when the SXS is on the rack, a very easily felt improvement having them in contact versus without.

Tire ratings are pretty much always the bottleneck.

IDK if they have a standardized test for payload yet like they do for towing.

My coworker just got notified his maverick is slated for production. 1 year after order placed. Should be on the line March 27.

Did that broken frame dodge have a 3500 lb payload?

edit: No I lied looks like 5,850 on the dodge from "thedrive" article
