What's new

New Ford Duallys are 6+ months out?

Can you be honest about something? How much out of pocket did each of 4 new registrations cost you? Sales tax and registration combined in Colorado is $2940 for a 50k~60k truck. If I had purchased 4 trucks in that time frame I’d be out an extra $11,760 bucks in taxes.

I’m in need of a new truck right now. I’ve found one I like but the taxes on top of going back into debt is really putting me off.
Most states I’ve been around, the trade-in value reduces tax burden to the difference.

Texas doesn't do registration like CO.

trade in 60k truck on a 70k truck, you pay on 10k in taxes. so 600 bucks or so. i looked in to register some vehicles in Colorado, its fawkin high. all my junk keeps the Texas plates.

Why does everyone leave out the part about the new truck costing "a good bit more" than what you paid for the old one? How is it not a wash?
the old one was just under 60k, the new one was 72k i sold the old one for 70,500. the new one would sell for more than i paid for it right now. i got lucky as hell timing wise. but the 16 I traded in on the 18 was only 2000 less than what i paid for it. i drove a new truck for 18 months and it cost me 2000 dollars, that is a bargain. i drove the 19 for over 2 years and made good money on it. i wrecked the 18 and that one cost me about 4k over a year. i didn't get it fixed, i traded it in on the 19. they gave me a good trade in deal because i never claimed a wreck on it, so a clean car fax if run. it was just a smashed tail gate, they probably had one to pop on it.

My story is similar, bought a '18 closeout model for $62,xxx plan to sell it for $70k buy new truck for $81,xxx which is currently commonly sold at retail of $87k.

I'll order another at the best deal I can get in '23 or '24 and sell the 1-2 year old truck again in my best case scenario for a near profit.

I showed my maintenance costs, they are pretty damn low.
I'm not trying to convince anyone of this plan or asking for approval, I can afford it and I'd rather be working out of the truck than working on it.

I’m not arguing with you or trying to talk you out of it. I’m trying to figure out the best way to run my own situation which is completely different than most people. I just moved back to New Mexico and taxes are different.

I need to put an average of 25,000 miles a year on my personal truck for my recreation activities. My goal has always been to stay out of debt by keeping my trucks and toys paid off. This time I don’t have the income (that I previously had) to pay for one outright. My old truck has over 200K miles on it as a chase truck so it’s beat up more than a typical highway cruiser, meaning it’s devalued more. Since my previous tax burden to trade in every two years was an extra almost $3000 bucks I was avoiding the constant turn over.

I don’t have any desire to be towing trailers 2000 miles from home in a sketchy old shit box either. Older diesels with low miles are either almost non existent, way to modified with bro-dozer bull shit, or they are as much money as a new truck. I’m not looking at a dually but I’m looking in nearly the same bracket as you are. Trying to make it work so I don’t have to quit racing, and don’t go bankrupt to keep racing. I am under contract with Ford to race a bronco in Ultra4 for the next 3 years. It’s a big gamble I know but I’m trying to grow my race team into something more professional than just 4 oilfield guys spending all our money on the race team.

JR4X

Does being under contract with Ford garner you any type of benefits when it comes to purchasing vehicles? Maybe x plan or something like that.

Different strokes for different folks.
I don't miss all the hours I spent "maintaining" the 16 year old truck I used to have.
I don't miss wondering if my transmission was going to take a shit on the next mountain pass.
I don't miss the lack of braking power.
I don't miss the lack of engine braking power.

I do love the stupid gimmicks. :rainbow:

Having a new truck certainly doesn't preclude one from wondering if the transmission is going to make the next overpass, that's for sure.

Depends on what brand you’re in I guess. My brother is always worried about his Rams auto trans shitting out on him. The new 10 speed fords have in the PSD’s are a little suspect at the moment. The 5r110 and 6r140 are no concern up to 200K.

It does for me, I don't worry about shit, I have no reason to, it hasn't given me a reason to.

Set the cruise on 65 and enjoy the ride. If I want to I'll scroll through all the data of the truck to see what temps are.

Scroll through the truck and trailer tires to look for leakers or tires building heat.

Lots of gimmicks and smooth sailing.

Same except if you’re going to be on the I70 corridor it’s cruise on 80 ~ 85. The speed limit in Utah is 80. It’s 75 in Colorado and Nevada.

Yeah I hear that but I don't pull this shit at 75+ in 100*F temps.

GONRACIN' still on here? He hauled vehicles and seemed to spend as much time putting whole loads of them in the ditch as he did actually delivering them intact.
If I've kept the online names and real people correct, Gonracin got married, changed into dump trucking, had a kid, moved for a job and dropped off the face of social media all in a short time span. Might still facebook, but I won't do that.

I do. But I monitor my temps. My tuner has alarms and shut downs at temps I get to to pick. I can also adjust what temp my fan clutch kicks on/off at. I’ve been through Nevada at 114° with the cruise set on 80 pulling a 17k pound trailer. I’ve ran this truck in the 250 hp performance tune for at least 125k miles straight. EGT’s never above 1200, engine and trans temps never above 205. That’s a 6.4 everyone guaranteed would leave me stranded. A 6.7 better be even more reliable, not less.

Why? I have a 2016 Ram 3500 with an Aisin and I never give it a second thought.

My last F250 transmission made it to 100k miles.
His isn’t the Aisin. He got a 17 2500 brand new but it’s got the 68RFE. He claims he can feel it slip every now and then. I’ve driven it and never noticed an issue

Well well well
If y'all are following along at home that sounds like a 11-12 month wait...

That sucks. Did you get options that were known to cause delays?

I ordered my F-350 just after last Thanksgiving and picked it up in June. I Dropped the Bedliner and gooseneck options to speed it up.

I new not to order the bed liner and 5th wheel prep but dropped the adaptive steering.

Other than that it's a standard platinum I guess. I added moon roof, and rapid heat with rear seat heat.

Nothing that was a non problem besides it being a dually.

I 100% agree.

The recalls on all these new vehicles is telling...
Recalls were constant before coof too, part quality has gone to complete shit in the last 10 years or so. Half my workload as a Ford tech in '15-17 was recall bullshit, when we weren't fixing dumb warranty shit caused by the assembly monkeys.

At least one of the door latch recalls I was doing then, the replacement parts also sucked so they recalled the repair parts from the previous recall.
