New Bronco reports

You think a new GM Denali or Ram BigHorn is any different? And I’m not even defending Ford, I took apart a brand new 2021 Bronco and was not pleased with what I found inside of it. As bad as Bronco is, a JL Jeep is worse.

i cant speak for the high end of GM or Ram, but the 3/4 ton Rams we have dont seem to have these issues, of course less bells and whistles. we have one AT4 GM and other than shitting the transmission at 55k, its been meh.

Ford has been the king of $1700 mirrors and $2k taillights for some time now.

i believe you on the Jeeps. massive hunks of shit for sure.

edit: also, you are not the normal Ford buyer. you bought a vehicle for a purpose, tore down and rebuilt. i definitely dont lump you in with the sail boat fuel haulers, and ghost trailer guys with their super dutys that just get waxed and shined.

Ram has some $2k headlamps and some $800 mirrors, but the really expensive stuff seems to be on the Wagoneers and Chryslers.

I followed a new ranger to work this morning and one of the brake lights were not working 🤣

I assume 4th gen? Because I had a 3rd gen 2500, and as much as I liked that truck it was an electrical nightmare. (dirt cheap to fix though)

I don't know where the split is. 2017-2023 is the range we have now

It's just the same old redneck shit. "Muh ford, muh chebby" like the guys who will only talk about the engine when taking different brands. they're all pretty much overcomplex junk now. Just when one seems to get it figured out, they change something and start having issues
caugh 2020+ superduty caugh  no matter what, they'll all have lemons. A brandnew truck scares me more than a 100k mile 2017 personally.

I'm still on the fence if toyota is making anything decent either?

It sucks that you can't buy reliability at the price they are asking these days. I have owned a handful of different trucks over the last few years and every one of them has a potential disaster looming. The F150 2.7 was one of the better ones IMHO.
The Jeep has one main big potential problem (cam bearings) but it's also the one I feel most comfortable dealing with if I have to fix it myself.
Toyota would probably be a solid bet but?

Plenty of new tundras dropping rod and main bearings.

This probably put the final nail in the coffin of me ever buying a new rig. EVER!

I wonder if it is necessary to have all this shit connected? Having a complex computerized system for fuel delivery and emissions control is not ideal, but all but mandated now, but is there really a reason computers need to know the status of tail lights? Maybe someone should build a vehicle / fleet that uses cheap older school tech wherever possible. Maybe it could bring down the ridiculous costs of new vehicles.

Too much government control and regulations for anything like that. That and todays general population is too stupid to know they have a tail light out without the car telling them.

But but butt . . . clueless dipshits would need to learn to put down their phones, pay attention, and drive actively if their new car didn't have multiple redundant Bluetooth-enabled LIDAR detectors in each taillight housing (right next to the wifi hotspot and accelerometer) for the purposes of fully semi-autonomous texting driving with un-cancelable nanny features to merit an 11-star (out of 5) safety rating from zeroaccountabilitycluelesscarbuyingcocksuckers.com :flipoff2:

Fancy 80s cars would tell you what was out or what fluid was low with nothing but analog electronics and lights.

When that shit stopped working you just went without, pulled the bulb, ignored it, whatever. It didn't take down the whole vehicle.

Shit, my 79 ford truck tells me when a turn signal bulb is out. Far from fancy.

I had a '78 Deville that had fiber optic cables from the taillight housings to dash indicators. Headlights and front turn signals went to a nub on the front fender.

My ride in HS would just blink extra fast when on it's way out. I was impressed.

Am I remembering right that grocery stores and lots of random places used to have a headlight bulb section?

Pretty sure I saw a rectangular Sylvania bulb at the grocery. I'll look again later

everyone still doing good out there?

Haven't blown up the 2.7L yet and it was made right in the transition period to the new valves. It's the wife's daily driver, but I flog the hell out of it in sport mode every chance I get.

My 1980 datsun would tell you if a tail light was out. It was not connected to a computer. It just had a little light on the dash.

CP4's failing and junking fuel systems isn't a concern of theirs though? Intresting.....
Apparently there's a huge lawsuit about it. Atleast Ram was smart enough to only go to the CP4 for 2 years and then immediately switch back.

Its just further evidence Ford hates its customers. Why else would they stick with the cp4 since 2011? It was a known disaster about the first month of 2012, right?
