What's new

My visit to the E.R....

Dang man. Hope you get stuff figured out.

My wife has had bad headaches for years. We’re now seeing a pain specialist. She doesn’t have migraines, but daily headaches. Her muscles are so tight in her shoulders and neck that they’re causing nerve problems and headaches. It might be something worth looking into.

Another thing, she has taken ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc. for years. You have to ween yourself off of them or you will have rebound headaches.

Also, overmedication headaches are possible. Sounds like she's in a whirlwind of hurt, kinda. A headache specialist might not lean towards chemodenervation (which might be her saving grace) - a neuro can administer botulinum A for that - maybe look into that if nothing else helps?

what brought on the weight loss? did you actively try, or is this part of some other issue?

No I'm not a Dr. but seems like an important question.
And don't I remember you starting to ride your bike? or run?

Activity trying. Mostly to get my knees to stop hurting and vanity. I was running for a bit but got lazy.

I believe that’s what the next step is.

I believe that’s what the next step is.

Pain relief... 155mg of the most potent neurotoxin ever discovered ftmfw! :homer:

Well tolerated. Can even be readministered every 12 weeks. :grinpimp:

edit; she might try an aleve/acetaminophen combo for a better otc treatment until she sees the specialist (assuming she hasn't done it already) - 400mg aleve with 1000mg tylenol (with food)

My neurologist suggested magnesium glycinate, riboflavin, and Feverfew for my migraines and tension headaches. Also prescribed Nortriptyline and Nurtec. Been taking it all for a few weeks, not having as many migraines but when I get them, I’m useless. I got some shots in the back of my head to help with the tension headaches and have an MRI scheduled for next week. Head problems are the worst. Hope you figure out what’s going on. The uncertainty will drive you nuts. I’m already there.

Good post! Nurtec will fuck your innards up if it hasn't already. That stuff is difficult to tolerate for a lot of patients.

Agree on mag-glycinate and riboflavin.

My pcp had me taking it every other day for a few weeks while waiting to get in with the neurologist. Neuro told me to abort my migraines with it as needed. No issues with it other than it tasting like a nasty dinner mint. I think it’s less effective as needed vs as a preventive. But I’m no doctor.

That's how they prescribe it because it isn't tolerated well as an every-day dose. It was recently developed right here at UCSD, i've done research on it. While i agree with you it's not a great abortive, i also believe its ineffective as a preventive as well.

Some insurance co's won't cover it. What that tells me i'm uncertain as of yet, but it's new on the market.

Patients have complained of a slew of symptoms throughout the gi tract from stem to stern. Dry mouth, hoarse throat, esophageal discomfort, nausea, stomach pain, intestinal cramps all the way to the rectum.

Sounds wonderful dont it

I had to try two other meds before insurance would cover it. Makes me a little nervous to know what the cost is. I changed to a high deductible plan for next year. Kinda why I asked to get an MRI now versus later. I’m already at my max out of pocket for the year from just one surgery in the spring which partially failed, and failed again a couple months later. Next year better calm the fuck down. Healthcare gives me anxiety between the bills and fuck ups.

$26 per od tablet.

It sounds like you are running the gamut. Are you having a particular scan done, such as MR angiogram, or venogram? And was your surgery global headpain related? Just curious, nothing else really.

Surgery was unrelated. The order just says MRI brain with and without dye. Diagnosis requested is migraine w/o aura, not intractable and myalgia/other site.

I think the worst part of some of my tension headaches is the facial muscle spasms. I can just feel my face moving at work and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. I feel like a crazy person sometimes.

I had a separate moment this year that caused me to get checked out. Confusion, lack of verbal words, etc. Got all the tests, ekg, CT, blood work... came back healthy as a horse. Need to manage my stress better which is so fucking hard. I dont know how some do it.

Tips?

Cognitive impairment is a difficult one. Have you been seen by a neuro?

A neurologist may only assess you through questioning and throw a medication or 2 your way, but it's a start anyway. Not all of them are equal, like any doctors in this day unfortunately.

Interesting, were those findings all from neurology? I'm suspicious of those scans contrast or not of being unremarkable, given what you've mentioned are your symptoms. Not suggesting they aren't neuro-related but i think brain scans won't be revealing. It's 2 scans so, likely a $900+ bill to the insurance co.

Do you have migranosus symptoms? If you do i doubt your spasms play any role in them. Those may be neuropathic.

No real diagnosis.

I asked for the MRI. I never had migraines until after an event in late 2021. Headaches, yeah, but never migraines. I suspect I had a stroke, maybe TIA as previously mentioned in the thread. Never heard of that until tonight. I went to the hospital after I lost the ability to think/speak, was slurring my speech, and had extreme confusion while working. They did an EKG and chest X-ray, they said it was just a panic attack. I haven’t been the same since. I often struggle with finding words and make common spelling mistakes which is not like me. I also forget things more than ever. I feel dumb sometimes and it’s frustrating. I’m curious if the scan will reveal anything. Hell, I just want to know what happened. I never really worried about my health until recently. I’m 35 and I’m not getting any younger.

Good info. I have to ask, did you contract SarsCov2 that you know of or were tested for, at any time prior to the attack/er visit?

I say that because you're collection of symptoms are in line with patients who were either vacc'd or caught the virus.

Personal experience; panic attacks don't render patients with impaired cognition such as what you just described. Viral expression in perpetuity however, can.

Doc might tell you to exercise. If it’s a clot the problem could become exercising moves it to somewhere it causes a bigger problem. Exercise is good because the blood veins have to flex a lot when pumping blood which prevents plaque build up. Since the arteries and veins change sizes when blood pumps through them THEORETICALLY a blockage is harder to build up. Try cross fitting with your brother in law a few days a week. Maybe just some basic shit at home. it’s hard when you’re tired.

Could any of this be related to NEW stress in your life? Since you’ve said you stress over trips because you’re away from work can you find a way to relax like reading a book, drawing, chasing wildlife, or just yelling at shit?

Don’t die man. That would kinda ruin our friendship. Who else is going to understand twig bitch problems?

I fear for the doctor telling you to change your diet or cut out messy can foods.

I take a lot of ibuprofen on and off, for the headaches.
Since I was in kindergarten, so 4 or 5.
Forever. When I was a kid I took grape flavored pain medicine.
C'mon man!! I know life is pain... But this is ridiculous at an early age!! 🤨

I'll share~ I've been taking aspirin/ibuprofen on & off since 5th grade and now daily ever since working full time.

Might want to rethink the positive suggestions of being a pencil pusher, the physical daily grind will take a toll on bodies & on certain days putting on a T-shirt will be hard to do due to arthritis/bursitis. Unless being a driller is code for pornstar 😁

Magnesium
I buy a pair of bananas before heading to farm or manual labor gig.

Oooh!! Pride is one of the deadly 7 sins
Mostly to get my knees to stop hurting
Son, pain is everything- :flipoff2:

I think that I'm pretty active at work, maybe not.

Dieing wouldn't matter, I don't want to be a vegetable...

I don't see what the problem is, an entire race lives off of this food.

I guess that I'll be surrounded by gays in hell then.

Besides headaches I don't take pain pills for any other pain.

... damn, you picked a terrible time to need medical attention !

fawkin doctors are so busy trying to deal with all the "mysterious maladies resulting in suddenly" that it's hard to recieve quality health care from professionals

... Ive had much better luck with my local volunteer fire department medical staff than I have from the big city hospitals

I guess that I'll be surrounded by gays in hell then.

Besides headaches I don't take pain pills for any other pain.

I can't take NSAIDs because of gi issues, so I've been doing research on how to knock out the headache bullshit

... here's a good peer reviewed study on lidocaine nasal spray as an abortive for headaches/migraines

I've been using it for a few months and it's been fawkin magic

It might be worth talking to your provider about it ?

Did you get the Covid vaccine shot?
