What's new

My visit to the E.R....

I found the same sentiment to what Flesheater mentioned last week when researching your pulse. I think you’re just in good shape and your heart isn’t stressed .

How much below 60 is bad ?

Dont worry, mine is 36-42 when i wake up in the morning
Regularly see 48-55 throughout the day.

The more athletic you are the lower the hr can be healthily.

I’m 39 and have had resting heart rates as low as 48-52. If you walk a lot and have decent cardio health those numbers are normal.

Not consistently they aren't. If it's below ~58 on a very regular basis there might be an add'l contributor. 50ish is ok, sometimes.

I think that it was a fluke. It's been consistently around 60 and was 59 by my wife's count. The imitrex has a side effect that can drop your heart rate which is not good. It doesn't seem to do anything anyway.

Triptans, like many other drugs prescribed for migraines often take a week or weeks, to begin being effective. Still can't blame you for not wanting to take them, since migraine diagnosis is one of healthcare's copout diagnoses in my opinion.

:homer: they didn't explain that to me.

Apparently they gave me imitrex in the hospital but I thought they were giving me aspirin.

They gave me 9 50mg tablets I only have four left with no results, I thought that there would be some kind of accumulative effect but I feel like I've taken a lot in a short amount of time for nothing to happen.

Thank-you for your imput on this.

Of course they wouldn't, they believe it's not their job to educate patients. But you'd be surprised what dr's don't reveal. They have a set protocol/time that they can spend w/ respect to ins company limits.

Are you taking pain pills; other?

They also prescribed 600mg ibuprofen bug they don't help either, so I quit taking them.
I was hoping that it would just pass by now, this is the longest I've had a migraine in a long time.

A ~50 bpm hr is perfectly normal and healthy for younger people & those in good shape. Every medical source supports that position. It's all about whether the heart pumps enough blood.

An example from a major medical system:

"A “normal” RHR falls between 60 and 100 beats per minute. An RHR under 60 can indicate that you’re more physically fit and may be associated with better heart function. An RHR that is above 100 beats per minute can reflect exposure to stress, excessive caffeine consumption or an illness.

If you have an RHR above 100 or below 50 that can’t be explained by obvious factors, such as participation in a regular exercise program, you should see a doctor,”

Find RunningProblem resting HR....... Bet that sucker is low. And still perfectly healthy.

Thank you, and that bolded below 50 that can't be explained part, see a dr.

It's my belief that being under 40 with a rhr under 50 isn't normal but i'm no athlete per se. Like 45acp was saying, i told my doctor i had a rate of 58 at one point (during an Rx trial) where she eventually tabulated that i had bradycardia. Under my breath (it was a televisit) i called her a bitch straight away.

Still think that revealing the truth to a physician is the better route vs not telling them. Double edged sword there...

Update...

I didn't do much Thursday and Friday, 11/23-11/24 just laid on my ass.
Saturday 11/25 I had to go on a service call, that is when I realized that I had double vision. It cleared up as of Tuesday 11/28.
I started taking Indomethacin on Tuesday that mostly seems to help with the pain. My head still hurts when the Indomethacin wears off.

I also noticed that my left ocular nerve hurts if I look all the way to the left by moving my eyes.

So what do they think is going on that they've put you on indomethacin and it seems to be effective at least alleviating symptoms?

The doctor thinks that it is migraines. I'm on a waiting list to see a neurologist.

She originally prescribed me nurtec, but those pills cost $111 a piece and not covered by my insurance.

Nurtec w/ a max 124% markup still pens out at $58 per lozenge. Expensive, but never $111 expensive. Ins Cos suck as they take it / give it up the butt.

They said $1000 for nine pills, for half that I would have just bought them :homer:. Whatever though, the other stuff seems to be working ok.

Update
I had the same experience yesterday morning as I did at the start of this but less extreme.

My right eyebrow developed a twitch yesterday morning :shaking: and I've had a fluttering in my right ear since yesterday evening.
Current BP 124/74 pulse 63.
