Been busy as hell with my 3D printing and Laser engraving gig. I’m in two local shops now on consignment so I’m cranking away in the studio as often as I can.

keeping busy doing the house and the property. We got 7”s of snow yesterday on top of the 5”s we got two days ago. So after plowing everything out with the Deere, today it hit the low 40s. So I pulled the truck out for a bath.

after I went down the road with the tractor to plow around and clear out around our dry hydrant we went outside with the kids for a couple hours of sledding and built us a snowman

and yes, tapped 30 trees this year and am collecting plenty of sap to make syrup this year. May try maple sugar too.

All in all we are still loving life here and wouldn’t have it any other way.

Well since this got bumped I guess I’ll get back to updating on a regular. So today I submit this mildly interesting oddity I observed on my pole barn this evening while taking the dogs out for their pre bed potty. Somehow, instead of just sliding off the roof like normal today, half of the snow slid down and curled itself up and under the overhanging roof, icicles and all. Super bizarre and pretty darn cool.

Steel roof on the house, pretty low pitch, there will be 4-6' of curled roof snow before I go knock it down. Icicles will point in and touch my bay window!

Still waiting for some wood carving / whittling the wood stuff to come up. Seems it would be up your alley.
Keep 'em coming.

I’m looking at some other expansions. Been debating snatching up a CNC router here at some point. I really want to add a fiber laser to do true metal engraving, but they are spendy. I will say that as of now, I have product in two local stores. One is a place called Made in Downeast Maine which is right on 1a in Ellsworth in the mill mall. It’s a store for crafters. We pay a monthly amount based on how large our space is and the owner takes care of sales and such and just cuts me a check monthly. I stop in occasionally to add new product and restock my table.

The other I just got into last month is 1a Relics which is a huge iconic antique and collectible store right smack dab on 1a coming into Ellsworth. It sees tons of traffic all year round. I should see some great numbers from these places come summer time so I’m always looking to add new stuff.

Here is some of the stuff I’ve done lately. This wood camp sign for a guy that lives up the road. I laser engraved it on a chunk of slab wood I salvaged from the scrap pile of the shop next door

These laser engraved coaster sets have done well for me.

And I’ve added a few Patreons with some really cool models.

Super fun weekend at the fire academy. We spent all day yesterday doing extrication training. We got a total of 5 cars to cut up. Every single one of them we braced, busted out the windows, removed all the doors with the cutters and spreaders, folded and removed the roofs, and did dash lifts and rolls on. Finished the day off by triggering some airbags. Both of which had a passenger in the shape of a paw patrol stuffed animal we found in one of the cars we were cutting up. As you can see from the fluff, he didn’t make it.

Today we spent the day at the local forest Ranger station going over wildland firefighting and checking out some of the toys and resources they have. Early day so I came home and did a sap collection. I’m out of storage containers as I filled my last two 5 gallon jugs halfway thru my buckets. We went to Walmart to go food shopping after and I grabbed a couple of 7 gallon water jugs and 5 gallon food grade buckets and lids so I can collect more. Think I’m up to like 65 gallons of sap.

Need to get or build yourself a reverse osmosis machine. Take out 50% of the water in a quick hurry.

Here is the cheapest homeowner grade one.

Yeah that’s on my to do list. Probably not this year as I’ve got too much other shit going on right now. I’m definitely gonna step up my game for next year though. Scouting for an old oil tank to cut up and convert to a proper boiler Evap system and I’m gonna take another crack at dragging the old goat barn up from the back field over the summer to set up as a sugar shack. Want to step up my collection and storage set up for next year too. I’ll use this year for practice and perfecting again so maybe next year I’ll boil and bottle enough to sell.

Airbags are incredibly powerful! Passenger side dash bag will boot 2/3 of a barrel of water.

Hooked to breakaway trailer switches for dramatic movie crash.

You need this license plate. :flipoff2:

330334078_906310763815767_3717756955542356567_n.jpg
I’m betting that one’s gonna get pulled. Bunch of whiners pushed thru some crap to get the “offensive” license plates removed. There was a news story the other day about some vegan in Portland upset because the bmv is making him change is LUVTOFU license plate because it can also be read as LUV TO F U

Yeah the state is actively pulling them. I know the kid who had NOFUCKS on his jeep, and they recently sent him new plates. We all knew it wouldn't last. The state took all restrictions off after a court case in another state a few years ago, and they have since reworded the policy to put the restrictions back on.

Maine has the most fucked vanity plates. Theres a whole FB group called Vanity Plates of Maine. That shit ain't going away. Fuck Portland

ME is a peculiar state in the sense that it is progressive and yet leaves personal freedoms strongly intact. I would love to live there but also worry they could someday succumb like many blue states have. NH too expensive for me.

Yeah vanity plates are a big thing here. you see far more personalized plates than generic. Then of course there are the 15 some odd different p,ate designs themselves too.

Yeah so it rained all day yesterday then dropped below freezing overnight. Black ice this morning. This was up on route 9 in Amherst. We got toned out for mutual aid along with Aurora and Eddington. Driver of the truck was ok. 6 brand new cars on the carrier bound for a dealership in Calais. All of them are a total loss. The Bronco was the least damaged but it’s still fucked. Last I heard they still have route 9 closed (this happened around 7:45 am and it’s almost 6 pm now)

In addition to the three FDs on scene we had Maine DOT, DEP, northern light ambulance, and two towing companies there. Total mess and it was fully involved when we arrived on scene. One car on the bottom deck kept burning and we couldn’t get water on it because of the car above it on the top deck.

Made for a long and interesting day for sure. I ran the pump the whole incident because I haven’t finished academy yet and can’t pack up and run the business end of the hose yet. All in all a decent outcome though. Nobody was hurt.

When is your test? Mine is in a couple hrs.

Yeah, so that’s a bit of an unknown at the moment. Written end test for FF1 and 2 is April 22nd. Our practical was scheduled for the 23rd. But apparently there Was some confusion between the academy heads and MFSI on that and MFSI now has Washington county’s academy scheduled to end test on that date. Our academy leaders have been trying to work something out but MFSI is saying they won’t be able to test us out until May 30th as that is the soonest they have available. It’s turned into a fiasco frankly and it’s an issue because our final academy weekend Is next weekend. Pushing our practical out a month kind of screws us on multiple levels. Also means we have to reschedule graduation.

I had to drop out of fire class due to a torn up shoulder. Having trouble putting on a jacket, much less a scba killed all thoughts of being on the vfd any longer. :(
