Maine Bound!

Was going to read all the posts until I noticed there are 95 pages worth. How are you liking it there? When I was a kid I had an obsession with "Moving to Maine when I grow up" for the sole reason that Stephen King lives there. Silly, I know, but what isn't to a 13 year old's mind? Later in life I had an obsession with "moving to the desert" and I've decided I like green things too much. Every time I see pics of SW people's dirt lawns, I get grossed out. I've since shifted the dream to wanting a nice little tiny place by a lake to retire to. Been checking out all kinds of stuff on Zillow and keep landing in Maine again, I'm once again intrigued by it, but it has nothing to do with Stephen King this time.
Incidentally, I checked out your pics and Google'd Mariaville. Zoomed in and straight off the bat hit your property. Wild. PS, nice place!

Not sure what you've done with your shelf but if you can attach it to a wall behind the bench or build a faux wall that will stiffen it up a lot.

With your stock are you better keeping them in the boxes they came after inspecting for damage to prevent damages of your own from kids/accidents.

Otherwise looks good and congrats on the fire truck driver license.

in short, we love it here. The state is gorgeous, the people are friendly and amazing, the weather is usually great, lots of wildlife and nature everywhere you look. Today alone I’ve seen a couple of deer, a frog, several flocks of turkeys, a couple of rabbits, a couple of squirrels, and a poor stray cat I was called out to catch because she wasn’t looking too good. The small town feel and sense of community here is so refreshing and a real joy to be a part of.

and thanks, we really love the house. We are just over the Otis line here. Only a few houses between us and the town line.

I haven’t done any further stiffening of the top shelf yet. Spent my last two days in the studio working on product instead of the studio itself as I had a few orders to fill and I am prepping product for the swap meet this weekend. Labor Day so I’m sure it will be busy. I’m thinking I’m going to do a pair of legs from the bottom to the top and do a shelf above the paper printer to put my shipping label printer on. Just haven’t gotten to it yet.

I think I’m good with the stock out for the most part. Lots of the tumblers just came wrapped on bubble wrap sleeves inside a larger box. I kept the sleeves for repacking for orders but the bulk boxes I broke down and got rid of. I like being able to glance over and see what I have on the shelf. And thanks on the EVOC.

I did do a bit of work on the studio while working in it today. I finally finished moving all my printing filament from the home office out to the studio. Really nice having all this room for it now. Still need to organize it a little better. Maybe by color.

I also got the outside mini split u it mounted up. Got the lines plumbed and most of the wiring done. I just need to install the breaker and wire into the panel and crack open the valves to fill the line set and I should be good to go.

Finally got this old Willy’s grille I picked up a year ago at 1a relics lit up and hung in the studio. Threw some RGB led headlights and some led markers in it with a 12v power supply. Plugged into a smart plug to turn it on and off easily.

And yes I know it’s crooked. Considering how I was awkwardly poised above the stairs and trying to hold it by myself and put screws in to mount it at the same time I think I did pretty well with it. Then I went ahead and added some more Jeep themed stuff around it.

Full depth drawer slides and make the shelves slide out, then put pegs in to put the spools on?
Could even have the upper one(s) slide forward and tilt down like this spice rack: Under Cabinet Drawer Spice Rack Organizer Tilt Down Storage | eBay

Having a damn good day at the swap meet today. Loving these new table covers I got. They look way better than the bare plastic tables and the bright colors make my booth stand out.

Nice setup :smokin:

Fall was by far my favorite time back east, and the three weeks of "spring" we got:laughing:

Should be great weather there now or maybe soon.

Definitely my best swap meet day yet today! Did a good amount of sales and handed out a bunch of business cards that will hopefully turn in to more orders. I had one guy asking me about 3D printing a prosthetic foot for a chicken (I wish I was joking) and another lady asking me to laser etch a plaque for an urn for her.

around 2 pm the people that were set up next to me packed it in and called it a day. When they left and their vehicles were gone I was suddenly stuck looking at this thing for the next two hours or so.

I do need some shelving in the studio for displaying my various and sundry Knick knacks and nerdy collectibles. The price on it was reasonable too. I texted the pic to the wife telling her to talk me out of buying it and bringing it home for the studio. But she responded that she couldn’t as it was just too cool. So there went some of the money I made today and it followed me home.

still have to decide exactly where to put it. The spot I was thinking originally won’t work as it will block the view of the Jeep grille and stuff I did the other day. So for right now it’s going here until I figure out where it should go.

Took the kids on over to the Blue Hill fair this morning. I really like this small country fair so much better than the giant shit show that was the San Diego county fair. free parking, kids under 12 are free, not super crowded, etc. we had a great time checking out the animals and exhibits, hitting up the rides and games, and munching some overpriced but delicious fair food.

I noticed there were some, but not a lot, of vendors selling hand crafted type items. Apart from them there were maybe 4 booths loaded with the same cheap Chinese junk. I’m thinking next year I may go ahead and try to get a booth space for the weekend. For a fair this size though I’d want to at least double my booth size, have a huge stock of stuff made and ready to go, and probably take both the laser and a 3D printer to have running in the booth. The laser in particular as I could laser stuff to order right there on site. Definitely enough people rolling thru each day to make it worth while I think.

Great expressions :lmao:

That would be neat. Do you have the burn/print times down well enough to tell someone how long it will take to print/burn something, or does the software accurately calculate that before you start?
I assume you would need some sort of screen/enclosure around the printer to keep the drafts from cooling the print down too much?
Would probably also want a "online" UPS to clean up and correct for the dirty/sagging power that they will likely have available (and to keep someone tripping over the cord from ruining a print).

Right? His face when he was petting that cow. You would think it bit him or something.

and yeah, the programs I use give me a time to complete estimate. None of them are all that accurate though. But simple tumblers with names and maybe a simple Character graphic only take like 20 minutes Or so. Especially if it’s a SVG instead of a Jpeg as the laser will only do the actual lines instead of scanning over The Who,e image line by line. I’d probably want to do something like the plastic welding shields they put up in fab shops to keep the idiots from looking directly at the beam.

and yeah, a good UPS would be a good idea for sure. I’ve got a year to plan for and think about it. I have been debating looking for a small scale portable machine to take to events also. I’ve found at the flea market people are always super curious about the printers/laser having only seen them on the YouTube’s or the tickytocks. I think it would be cool to have a small Ender 2 printing small simple things right there in the booth so people can see how it actually works. For something like a fair I think that would be doubly cool to pull a crowd.

Spending the day doing some general clean up around the property and the garage. Having a late birthday party for my daughter here this weekend so we are trying to get the place cleaned up a bit. Also doing some fall maintenance and such as it won’t be long now before it will be time to start parking the vehicles in the garage again. One thing I finally took care of today was to get this water hose reel I bought on Prime Day installed.

Now with the pellet boiler running, the little boiler room off the garage is always nice and toasty. So I won’t have to worry about this hose freezing during the winter and I’ll be able to use it to hose the salt and such off the vehicles thru the winter this year.

Now you just need a little electric pressure washer to park next to it and run a under vehicle spray bar:

I’ve got stuff to fill them with. But they have the wrong wheels inside them right now. They are set up for capsules or bouncy balls. If I put the reeces pieces, skittles, and runts in them now they will just fall right thru. Have to order some candy wheels and brushes for them.

Well that was fun. Spent the day with neighbors over for a late birthday party for my daughter with her school friends.

Tomorow I am slated to head out to Holden to a member of PV4WDs place to help him cut three new trails on his property ahead of an actual wheeling day there next weekend. So after everyone leaves and we get cleaned up from the party, I get the trailer hooked up and go to load up the Jeep. I don’t use the ramps anymore, I put it in 4wd and just drive it up. Only today, I didn’t get 4wd. Front output shifter wouldn’t budge. So I do the rolling trick, it moves, but it moves weirdly. Feels super loose and I confirmed my front wheels aren’t turning under power. Well shit. Pop the access panel off the side of the center console and sure enough, the cable has come apart.

No clue how the hell that happened. These are the cables that came with the Northwest Fabworks triple stick set up. Luckily, I also still have the stock Atlas cables that came with the transfer case. So after an hour or so of cursing in tight spaces (I was in no mood to drop the belly skid) I got the spare cable on and set up. Didn’t spend too much time adjusting it, I’ve got neutral and low on the front output and that’s all I need. So I loaded it on the trailer so it’s ready to go in the morning. Also rounded up the weekly trash so I can hit the dump on my way out in the morning.

My cousin used to own a fireworks making business in Blue Hill.
