Maine Bound!

time to do proper linkages to the shift rails
I liked the cable shifters for routing and packaging reasons. They’ve worked well and I haven’t had issues really before now. Though I never have managed to get the thing to shift into front high range.

Damn why a long day. Started off with actually putting the General Lee on a ramp for the first time since I built the thing. Distance up the ramp divided by my wheelbase gave me a score of 1091.

Best was my passenger rear tire. It was only at 2 psi.

Then we hit the woods and cut three new trails. As usual. Pics don’t do it justice.

And I am officially an East Coast wheeler again. I now have the east coast cowel dent on the passenger side from a tree we should have removed but didn’t.

Waiting for everyone else to post their pics and videos from today and I will post more when I get them.

Edit. Oh yeah. Forgot to mention how my day ended. Put the Jeep back on the trailer but felt like it was crooked. Jumped out to check and it was. Went to get back in to pull it off and try again and somehow missed a step somewhere and fucking ate it hard. Basically fell off the Jeep slap bang on the trailer deck on my back. I’m gonna be sore as shit tomorrow

You know, a real east coast wheeler would say you just shouldn't of hit the tree :flipoff2:

and I say that cause I've done that dent to a few things...

I was invited up there next weekend, and I want to from the pictures I've seen from Aaron and Dalton, but I've been doing Jamboree Prep the last three weekends in my GF's Jeep because mine isn't ready, and I only have a couple weeks to make it ready, so I doubt I'll make it.

Bummer. I’ll be there next weekend as well.

and yeah, this was cutting an “intermediate” trail that frankly, isn’t. My Jeep was also the biggest one there so I found all the really tight spots first. This was a spot where I just couldn’t get maneuvered around that tree. I took a big chunk out of it with my rock rail too. We wound up cutting it down and removing it on the second run thru the trail.

Thought I’d toss these up here for anyone not checking my vendor thread. Just about done with the irate salute desk toys. Gonna add some feet so it stands up on its own. Also a hole in the back of the head so they can be hung on the wall.

I am also having way too much fun doing these laser etched tiles. I’m loving how they come out.

And I took the plunge and signed up and paid for booth space for both November weekends of the Bangor Craft fair at the Bangor Mall. Gotta seriously start churning out and stock piling product for that. Will be doing a lot of Christmas and holiday themed stuff for that event.

Plugging away in the studio lately. I am seriously loving this space to work in! I’m about to take my laser offline next week to install the extension rails on it so I will have a much larger engraving area to work in. Instead of being about 24”x24” it will now be 24” x 48” with a slightly smaller working area size Than that. Knocked out a few more things for the swap meet this week. More Halloween themed tiles

and I started doing some test prints for holiday themed stuff for the big craft fair in November. Plan is to get a good sized stock of products made up between now and the beginning of November. especially as I only have a week between them so if I sell out the first weekend I’m kind of screwed. So I did this little christmas Deer

I also today received another Ender 3V2. Following a suggestion from one of the side hustle printing groups I’m in, I will be decking this one out with colorful add on, some RGB led lights, and so on to set up on my table at the craft fair. I’ll have it running printing fast items so people can actually watch it work. The lights and such are to help draw attention to it and my booth. Along with that came some more nerd decor I ordered to fill some more wall space.

Say I wanted to get a 3d printer to play with at home. Not a business.

I was thinking Prusa mk3 s out whatever but it's it worth it vs the ender?

Edit: how did you get the sweet color gradient?

The Prusas are badass machines no question. I’ve not heard much of any negatives on them in the various fagbook groups I’m in. They do have that hefty price tag though. The Enders are inexspensive and as long as you assemble them carefully, they are actually solid machines. The new Ender 3 V2 I just got for shows printed like a champ right out of the box. I didn’t even calibrate it or run any test prints. I put it together, loaded a bunch of files for upgrade and pimp out parts for it on the SD card, loaded a spool of silk blue filament, leveled the bed and hit print. It’s been printing parts for itself around the clock since yesterday without a hitch.

the color gradient actually comes from the filament I used for that print. There are tons of rainbow and color changing filaments out there that change color as you print with them. Some shift faster than others though so it’s important to know which you are using depending on what you are printing. If it’s a small item the co,or may not change to the next one much at all over the course of the piece, so you may want to print multiples to get a better shift. They also, are glow in the dark filaments, and the new thing is dual and tricolor filaments that make for a cool color shifting effect depending on the lighting and view angle. I used a two color green/blue filament to make my Maine topographic map magnets.

So tomorrow is national lobster day. And I don’t know if you all have heard about the red list drama going on with. Maine lobster right now or not, but it’s kind of a big deal around here this weekend. Everyone has been wearing red to support our lobstermen, and the Dorr seafood market in Ellsworth, in honor of national Lobster day, is doing $7.99 a lb for any size lobster. So after the kids swim classes at the Y today we swung thru on the way home to grab some bugs.

got a pair of 2 pounders and this big hard shell 4 pounder for myself. Also snagged a 5 lb bag of steamers. Gonna be some damn good eating here tonight!

Damn what a day. Wound up making a last mi Ute decision to attend the Fall Festival at Ellsworth Elementary as a vendor. It’s the first time they’ve done this so I was t sure how busy it would be or if it would be worth it. But I figured what the hell. Get my name out a bit. And give me a chance to play with an indoor booth set up to prep for the big craft fair in Bangor next month. So i went down there and set up not expecting much.

ognore the big dude. He overdid it setting his tables up and had to sit for a few while his wife finished their tables.

anywah, for something last minute I wasn’t even sure I was gonna do, damn did I have a good day! Sold the most I’ve done yet at an in person event. Not only did I have a record sale day, I was approached by the lady that runs the local Whitman house and museum and she is interested in having me produce some stuff for their gift shop! And I got an invite to another craft fair at the end of November after thanksgiving. And I gave out a bunch of business cards which will hopefully convert to further orders.

Then about 1:30 I get a text from the wife that the damn dogs got loose and ran off. Still had an hour and a half to go in the festival so wasn’t much I could do. Broke down at 3 when it ended. Got home around 3:45 and they were still trying to find the dogs. Got on the quad and rode all over creation. Over to the shop, back around to the pits, ran up and down the dirt road up the way. Nothing. Finally jumped in the truck figuring they’d been out for hours now and could be anywhere. I finally found one of them a good two miles from the house in a gravel pit off the road the firehouse is on! Caught her but still didn’t see Nanaki anywhere. So I took her home so she could eat and drink and went back out again. After another 30 minutes I found him another half mile up the road from where I found her running thru a blueberry field by the damn road. Got him in the truck and took him home and they both went straight in their crates for the night. Furry little jerks.

Huskies run. The only way to keep them home is chain or covered runs. Good looking dogs though.
We told him this when he got them :lmao:. They will get out and they will run away that is a fact.

How does that work if the animal control officers pets are the ones running amuck through the area? :flipoff2:

yeah. We haven’t had too many issues actually. Occasionally they manage to slip out past the boy or the girl, but usually they don’t get too far. Furthest I’ve found them previously is over at the shop or down in the big pit behind us. This is by dpfar the worst and longest they were loose and furthest they’ve gone.

in this case they managed to slip out thru the gate in the play area. We typically let them run around in there off leash because it’s fenced in and they enjoy it while we are out there with the kids playing on the trampoline or in the sandbox and what not. I guess wifey forgot her phone when they all went out so when she came back in the house to get it, she didn’t secure the lower part of the gate and they were able to push thru it.

as for the ACO, I was actually hoping someone would call me saying they had spotted them, but nobody did. It was basically pure dumb luck I managed to find them where they were.

Ours used to get out for hours in Flagstaff, as a pup. Always came home though after exploring the forest.

One time we got a call from the local Mavrik (gas station) they were inside.

The one we have left is 14 and spends his time on our new property fully leash free. He barely goes outside the clearing. Occasionally down to the end of the driveway. Go figure, where was this dog the past 14 damn years?

I like old dogs, they're much more chill and reasonable
It's interesting a the different personalities that different dogs have, my brother-in-law has a dog from the same litter as ours and their dog has a completely different personality than our dog, ours will go out and run/play, but is happy to hold the carpet down and chill out, his is far more excitable and wants to be doing things.
A friend has a dog from the same breeder and the same lines, that dog is very high energy and will become almost unmanageable if she doesn't get out and run a couple times a week (and by run, I mean run alongside the golf cart for 20 minutes with your foot to the floor), that dog originally went to my brother but she had way too much energy for him, so she came to us for a few weeks till she found a new home.

Well it seems Nanaki found a nest of ticks somewhere while they were out wandering around. I’ve found and pulled damn near a dozen off of him in the last two days. Aurora only picked up one or two. its odd because I haven’t found ticks on anyone at all in at least a month now. And these ones are tiny co pared to the ones we were finding during the summer. Thought we were done with them for the year but I guess not.

in other news I’ve been busy plowing away in the studio making product and stock for the Bangor craft fair. Just finished this awesome flexible crystal dragon from Cinderwing 3D.

I'm not into dragons and shit but holy shit do I ever like that one, very impressive!:smokin:

Right? I had printed some smaller, less impressive ones for the last festival I did and they sold like hot cakes. So o figured I’d pony up for a Patreon to get some larger, higher quality models of flesh dragons. The patron subscription gives me access to all her models and she adds more each month and I can legally print and sell them. I also love the 3 color filament I printed it in. It’s blue, green, and red, but because it runs them all together, the co,ORW shift and change on the model depending on the light and view angle.

Dragon is neat, love the color. The layered Maine one is also cool
Thanks. First time doing a layered piece. I missed one or two spots of paint on it and I think I used a bit too much glue when assembling the layers, but it came out nice for my first attempt.

Like the old saying goes, no Good dead goes unpunished.

so the assistant chief has been working on clearing some of his property pretty much all summer. They are doing an anniversary party at his place in like two weeks, so he asked me if I’d be willing to give him a hand with some bush hogging in the area he’s been working on clearing. Ok. Sure. No problem. I went over yesterday and did what I could, but there were still a lot of logs down that we couldn’t see so I had to quit for the day.

today I went back and the AC was using another firefighters tractor with a grapple on it to move the logs and stumps and such while I continued bush hogging. We had a good groove going and we’re making great progress until

I found a serious soft spot and basically got buried in the mud up to the frame. As you can see, we removed the bush hog hoping getting the anchor off the back would help (it didn’t). The little Massey Ferguson with the grapple didn’t have the power to pull my tractor out and for a few minutes there, it looked like that was stuck too. But we managed to get it out, I said let’s just stop before this gets worse.

I had the wife come pick me and the boy up and ran home and got the Jeep. Anchored the General to the other tractor and used the 12k winch on the Jeep and we managed to pull the tractor out. Got it out of the muck and back onto solid ground, put the hog back on it and finished up the rest of the work except for the area around where I buried the Deere for obvious reasons.

edit. Oh yeah, you can see I lost a tail light today too
