Maine Bound!

Why OSB instead of drywall?

Pretty sure it was half finished in osb, so he just finished it out that way, but I can't remember

yep. It was already all done with OSB when we bought the place. The previous owner had the space set up as a wood shop. Frankly it would be more work and money than I really wanted to get into to redo it all with drywall. I also kind of suck at drywall work anyway. Painting the existing was just faster and easier. Once I start putting up shelving and the pile of man cave decor I’ve got floating around and such it shouldn’t even be all that noticeable. It’s going to be half studio and half man cave so I’m gonna make the space my own.

I wonder if you did a quick skim coat on the osb with drywall mud if it would A. Stick well and 2. Look decent.

I am not sure about how dry wall mud will look on OSB but it will probably make a gal of paint go farther

At this point the walls are what they are. The look is growing on me.

So today saw yet another run to Home Depot for some more various and sundry odds and ends. On my return, even though it was 85 degrees, I went and got going on installing the 55k BTU hydronic heater. I had to get a little creative to hold it in place while I went up to the attic to do the top nuts. Old ratchet strap and a couple of screws for the win! (And a bonus of the OSB walls and ceiling I might add)

up into the inferno I go. Must’ve been over 100 up in the attic. Mich as I’d love to have the ceiling fans up and running, I do not want to spend a ton of time up there to wire them up right now.

secured I went ahead and plumbed it from the heater down.

thru the wall into the gun room and down next to my gun cabinet, thru the floor into the boiler room.

That I had to get done today. The pellet boiler is being installed come Monday so I wanted to have the pipes run into the boiler room before then so they can plumb it in as they do the boiler.

That finished I plugged away at the floor some more for a while. I got about a third of the way done before I decided to call it for the day.

Then I said to hell with it. Last thing I did before calling it a day was carefully move all the stuff over onto the new floor. This way all I have to do next day I get out here is clear the trash and sweep the subfloor and I can get right to work laying the rest of the flooring.

Got some more sublimation tumblers in. I sacrificed one to confirm I can etch nice clean photos onto them. Tested it with a picture of my Jeep from a wheeling trip. Super happy with the results. Might have to try one of the water bottles I have too, but I feel like it won’t come out as well on a regular coated Bottle.

Bruh. I know you're from Cali and all, but I said do the H V A C first. You're clearly putting in the heater :shaking:

Seriously, looks good. You doing any insulation on the boiler feed, or just letting it ride?

I’m still waiting on the wall Mount brackets for the mini split. they are due tomorrow. I picked up all the wiring and such today for it. I did think about doing the ceiling fans. But yeah. The 8 minutes or so I was in the scorching attic was enough for me for one day.

I haven’t really decided about wrapping the feed pipes to the heater yet. Apart from kind of digging the exposed copper look, it’s a fairly short run from the boiler room, so heat loss should be minimal. Also not sure if it would hurt to just let some heat from the pipes bleed off into the room on its way up to the heater or not.

If you aren't worried about your kids grabbing the pipes, I'd say leave them. Unless you're going to leave it cold (ish) out there and only turn the heat on when you're there.

If you're only using the heater part time, you don't want to waste the heat heating spaces that are usually cold (cool).

Maybe insulate some of it, wide open on the rest

Good point on the kids. My plan is to use that heater to maintain the studio at 50 to 55 or so during the winter so I don’t have to worry about anything freezing up out there. I’ll fire up the mini split from my phone an hour or so before I go out there to warm it to a more comfortable temp and run that while I’m out there working.

Well while hanging out today while the guys were working on the pellet boiler I decided to try etching some slate coasters.

they definitely look better with two coats of clear on them. Gives them that wet look.

I also spent some time with the boy upstairs working on the studio some more. We almost have the flooring done. Just a bit more to lay.

yea, the flooring looks good. I laid vinyl at our house and it really changed the rooms.

I won't comment on the walls. :flipoff2:

They will be pretty well covered up soon enough. I’ve got a mess of decor laying around in that pile of stuff in the corner that’s been waiting to go up somewhere for a long time.

Well the girls are away at a Girl Scout camp thing for two nights. So the boy and I have been plodding away in the studio. He’s slowing me down because he gets bored after a while and keeps wandering off and I have to stop and go find him. But we have the floor pretty well finished now except for some quarter round and some edge covering. So I went ahead and got the shelving back where it was and it’s all secured to the wall again.

I was debating painting them, but I just don’t want to. A little purple power works wonders to clean off the years of dust and crud.

Now I’m moving my various crap that I’ve been storing up here for a year back onto the shelves so I can do the quarter round baseboard and start the wiring. woods see all those boxes? A lot of them are filled with decor that will be going up sooner or later. Same with that Willy’s grille once I put some LEDs in the lights and make it a feature lamp.
