guessing you meant fleshlight and auto correct got you.

but that’s something I hadn’t considered. I should be able to do Mag-lites and similar flashlights too. I’ve seen quite a few people doing lower receivers, knives, handgun slides, grips, etc with this machine.

Yes fucking auto correct lol

We did hit up Home Depot today for a few things while we were out. I picked up a 5 gallon bucket of white ceiling paint and a 5 gallon bucket of Semi gloss in a light green for the walls.
Don't do it, with smoke and fumes from your laser and 3d printing operations you will want at least semi-gloss on the walls and the ceiling.
If you go with flat ceiling paint it will end up stained and absorbing the odors in short order.

the printers don’t really put off anything. As for the laser I. Actually planning to set up some form of extractor set up above it to pull the smoke and fumes outside. Besides, the ceiling paint was actually pretty cheap. And according to online calculators I should only use about 3 gallons of it to do the ceiling so I’ll have some leftover. it was cheaper to buy the 5 gallon bucket than it would have been to buy just 3 one gallon cans.

Don't know what you are paying for tumblers, but give Rtic a look. They sell 48 count cases at a discounted price.

That’s not too bad. Especially for a name brand. The ones I got coming from Amazon are $4.33 a piece. So definitely cheaper. The ones I’ve been messing with for practice ive just been getting locally. Some came from Walmarts clearance section. I picked up a few more from Mardens today as well. But thats good to know for premium bottles and such.

that OSB will soak up paint like a sponge. Plan on two coats to eliminate splotchy appearance and probably 1.5x the calculator gal.

and as for flooring if you’re gonna spend $2/sqft you can get vinyl plank at lowes for that price (1.99/sf). Underlayment not required for LVP in your application.
Cheap laminate is 99cents/ sf at Home Depot and on Black Friday typically 69c/sf.

These sell very well around mothers and fathers day.

Damn full and interesting day today.

Started with spotting a dove with her fawn about 50 yards away while taking the dogs out for their morning walk. This is pretty much behind the pole barn.

Then I went up to the studio and started painting the ceiling. I started with the 14” roller I picked up. Wasn’t long before I said to hell with that and went for my Wagner paint sprayer. Unfortunately while trying to get it together I realized a part was stuck and I wound up accidentally breaking it.

So right about when I decided to go to Home Depot for the third time this week and get a new paint gun, my pager went off. I was right by the garage door so I was in the truck and moving down the driveway before the RCC even said what the call was. Turns out it was a grass fire over on Beech Hill pond. We couldn’t get the engine down the long, narrow, and twisty driveway so we had to haul the portable down. Luckily the camp was right on the water so I dropped the floater in and ran the pump right off the dock.

Used a forestry hose and we got it out. It was interesting because the dirt here wasn’t all just dirt. Deep layers of loam and vegetable matter built up over decades most likely so it burned deep. Wound up burning a big crater in the ground which we made bigger making sure nothing was left shouldering. I was running the pump the whole time. That chewed up a good few hours of my day for sure.

So when I got home I grabbed a sandwich then went ahead and went back to Home Depot for a new paint sprayer. Came home and got back to painting.

And I almost bought another 5 gallon bucket of ceiling paint while I was there. Turns out I should have. The bucket I have wasn’t enough to cover the whole ceiling. And frankly, it needs at least another coat anyway. So I’m gonna get another 5 gallon bucket to do that.

not concerned with the overspray on the walls as I’m going to be painting those too. Top down method means I don’t have to be super cautious. I’ll mask the ceiling edges before I spray the walls.

while I was gone I had another tumbler burning too. This one wraps almost completely around the tumbler.

You should have taken that devils board off of your ceilings and walls and replaced it with something more genuine, tongue and groove pine. I refuse to do anything with osb other than cover cord wood. Nice area.

I thought about it. It really does eat the paint like nobodies business. But I suck at drywall and the amount of T&G I would have needed to cover all this would cost a fortune.

I'd guess even more... especially if no primer/sealer is used first.

$1 says you go through at least 20 gallons to get "good coverage" on that ceiling...

probably should have spent the $ on Kilz to seal it..

probably. But paint, like everything else, has gotten stupid expensive. Even the basic Behr stuff is over $150 for a 5 gallon bucket now. I’m using Glidden as it was the only brand that was under $100 for a 5 gallon bucket. I’m not going for perfect coverage. I’ll be happy with decent, mostly covered. Big thing is just trying to lighten up the space.

Despite the OSB, that will be a killer room to work in. I really like the feeling of the sloped walls and having plenty of natural lite. I'm sure you will turn it into a very comfortable space.
Yeah there is a good amount of natural light from the french doors to the little deck and the windows on the one wall. I kind of wish there were windows on the other wall as well, but then id have to work around them building the work station. Should still be pretty awesome when I get it done though. I’m also still gonna try and keep, part of it as a man cave as I originally intended. Maybe put in a nice comfy couch, decent size TV, etc. with 875 square feet to work with I’ll have plenty of space for play as well as work.

any mix-mixed available in a light enough tone?
cheap paint is good primer for stuff like that which soaks up a lot of it

and primer is cheap white paint lol

I looked. Next to nothing on the oopsie rack at the depot. Hmmm, I wonder if there is a Restore around here somewhere come to think of it.

when you get to the walls, the 1-2-3 primer is a great high-solids primer that coats well And won’t break the bank. ive had it tinted at the store ( yes they can do it in lighter spectrum colors no matter what the computer says.) and just run it as shed paint and it held up great. The only better paint I’ve used is Sherwin super paint which definitely breaks the bank At 65/gal.

Good deal. I’ll pick up a primer for the walls when I go get another bucket for the ceiling. Not sure if I’ll do that tomorrow or not. I’ve already been to the depot three times this week. Though I may take a longer drive to Bangor where there is a Restore. See if they have anything useful or interesting for the new studio. Then I can hit lowes in Brewer too on the way back too.

you check Mardens for paint? I definitely remember quarts of rustoleum for like $6, thought they had house paint too when I was there. Probably hit or miss tho

might be able to find an acceptable color cheap on craigs/FB that isn't inflated current prices

Dad duty today so didn’t get anything done in the studio. Spent the day outside with the kids and the dogs for the most part enjoying the weather and picking blackberries and such. I did get a few more burns done though. First a pair of Ozark Trail water bottles I got from the clearance section at Mardens.

then I did a little wood. Started with a coaster.

then ran the same image on a slab of wood I cut off a log in my wood pile.

I then stained the slab. That was a mistake. It covered some of the fine details. So I stained a blank slab that I will try and burn later after the stain dries.

I’ll be setting up the booth at the Ellsworth swap meet again tomorrow so I got everything loaded and ready for that as well. Didn’t get as much laser stuff done as I had hoped due to how this week fleshed out. But it least I have a dozen tumblers and some samples of what’s to come from the laser.

That flexing jeep one is neat, but you need to tweak the picture some - a lot of the detail is missed in the burning, so you have large "chunks" where it's all etched out.

edit to flesh out my thought: The picture is right, but I'm thinking you'll have to make the unburned sections a little larger - I'm betting the laser is getting some overburn that's only noticeable in tiny details.

Yeah so I think I accidentally discovered that the sublimation tumblers can do detailed images. The standard tumblers can’t because I think the coating is thinner. I may try and tweak the laser power settings and see if I can get the detailed stuff to show better on the standard tumblers too. Off not I’ll just stick to what’s worked well. Detail stuff on sublimation tumblers, and simpler stuff on the standard style. I still need to get some leather wrapped tumblers to try. Hell I need to get ahold of some leather in general to try out. There is all sorts of stuff this thing can do that I haven’t tried yet. Just too much other stuff going on this week for me to really get so,I’d time with it.
