Well after the weekly dump run, we decided to head to Brewer and hit up Lowes. After that we stopped off at Pats Pizza for some lunch and took the kids on the go carts for a bit.

Then came home and unloaded. Yeah. This is gonna be fun. 40 boxes of Honey Oak laminate flooring, 10 rolls of underlayment (I know I don’t NEED it for this application strictly speaking, but I figured extra cushion couldn’t hurt), another 5 gallon bucket of ceiling paint, a 5 gallon bucket of Kilz 2 primer for the walls, transition for the top of the stairs, 40’ of 3/4” copper to pipe up the hydronic heater and the various bits and bobs for that.

taking all these up to the second floor is gonna be a good workout.

That valspar ceiling paint blows goats. I used it in a basement to save money because I didn't want to buy SW, I ended up spending more because I had to use 10x as much of that valspar shit. It's insanely thin.

If that is the cardboard stuff you are better off getting something better. It will delaminate in a year or two from moisture and regular foot traffic and look like garbage.

Cardboard garbage

What you want, this is a more expensive one but should be able to get something similar for cheap.

Those tick things are pretty cool.
weird my spellcheck didn’t catch that.

and yeah I thought so too. and with how bad they are here this year they’ve been pretty popular. I’ve sold quite a few of them. Need to print another batch.

I kind of figured based on the price. But I’ve only got a small section to finish then I’ll just burn the rest of the bucket reflating what I’ve already got up there. It’s OSB so it’s never gonna be perfect.

im actually not positive what the base is. It’s pretty heavy though so I feel like it may actually be wood based. Feels similar to the Traffic Master stuff I used in the old house in CA and that held up well. I actually looked at getting Traffic Master for this too. But that stuff is up to double the cost of this stuff. Now I need to find and dig out my laminate floor tools. Haven’t used them in ages.

im also going to have to figure out something for baseboards. I don’t think standard style baseboards would look right with the slanted walls. Maybe quarter round?

I've done bedrooms, hallway, and living room with LifeProof. Been there for maybe a year? Its been freaking awesome. Its held up great. You sail right through the install too.

While we were outside in the play area this morning with the kids and the dogs, the FedEx truck swung by and very nicely dropped the 18k BTU Mr. Cool mini split unit off in the garage. I’ve taken to keeping the doors open during the day lately so they were already open. Still not where it’s final resting place will be but it’s much closer to it than my front door is.

I'm interested in your thoughts on that unit.

I'm looking at doing something very similar to my garage/shop in the near future. It's impossible to work out there when it's 110 - or 20

I’ll be sure to let you know. My plan is to use it for additional heat when I’m actually put there working. And yeah, cooling will be quite nice in the summer time as well. I’m going to put the head on the wall next to the French doors to the balcony next to where I will be building my work station.

Well I had a full and interesting day today. I’ll leave this as a teaser for the moment. Need food and a shower then I’ll post proper.

Damn what a day.

So I started off in the studio. First thing I did was remove the shelves and get everything wrapped up so I could do more painting.

I also went ahead and removed the last of the old shelf materials from the work bench location

Then I put 2 coats of Kilz on the walls and finished painting the ceiling before starting to spray my color. It’s a bit lighter than I thought it would be.

Took a moment to appreciate the view from the windows.

then I knuckled down and painted the walls.

Few more shots of the paint. Guess I’m gonna have to finish framing in these windows too.

much brighter in here now for sure. So with the paint done, I went and started on the flooring.

which said, I have to decide what to do about these. Right now the only outlets up here are three floor outlets. Floor outlets I might add, that barely work. Not sure I really want to keep them as I don’t know what I would use them for and I’ll be running three new circuits up here anyway and putting out,ets all along the walls. Kind of thinking I may just cap them and cover them over with flooring.

So I got thru about 5 boxes of flooring and decided I had had enough for the day.

it was hot up there and I had been working for hours and I was ready to call it a day. I was just bringing the tools in from the balcony and closing the doors when my pager went off.

Honestly if it had been a medical call I was gonna skip it. I was hot, sweaty, covered in paint, and tired. But nope. Brush fire on a peninsula of a pond at the ass other end of our jurisdiction. In fact, we had to leave our area and circle around to get back into our service area where the fire was. Best part. Only accessible by boat.

got to the station and started getting my forestry gear on. Chief had me hook the forestry trailer up to my truck and I followed the engine out to the boat ramp on the pond. We loaded what we needed into a Rangers truck to ferry it down to the boat ramp and onto a pontoon boat belonging to one of the residents of the pond who ferried us out to the fire. We held off shore for a few minutes to wait for the chopper to dump some water before we proceeded to shore.

Once the chopper had doused it four or five times we went ashore and unloaded our forestry pump, hoses, and equipment. Spent quite a while dowsing the area and generally working the fire and the ashes.

we got it contained but we’re forced to pull out after a couple of hours due to a storm moving in. Forest service will be out again tomorow to finish mopping it up.

What was the likely cause of the fire?
we aren’t really sure. The residents we talked to said nobody saw anyone or anything over there. It was a quiet day on the pond. Apparently the area is a popular place to camp but in the winter for ice fishing. Since it’s only accesible by boat and there was no sign of anyone camping there that was ruled out. Though I think someone may have hiked in from somewhere. There are several old fire rings in the area for sure. My money is on a camp fire got out of hand and the culprit bailed on foot.

Just to nit-pick a little...

I would've installed the A/C first :flipoff2:

Probably heat, oxygen, & fuel :flipoff2:
I seriously thought about that. But I didn’t have the wiring and the wall mount for the outside unit hasn’t come in yet. The line set covers did arrive today while I was out at the fire though. Gonna make another Home Depot trip tomorrow and grab the breaker and wiring for it and a couple of odds and ends I forgot for the hydronic heater.

some thoughts on the room:

1. space is going to be awesome
2. I HATE the painted OSB with a passion. like, I couldn't work in that room every day hate. I think its the seams more than anything, but man my OCD freaks out :homer:
3. floor outlets. I'd grab some cheap floor outlet covers and keep them. tie them into better power if needed, but then you can setup stuff in the middle of the space without extension cords all over the place. I'm not sure if capping and covering is up to code, that creates an inaccessible junction box.
4. I hate the painted OSB:laughing:

I saw Mariaville pop up on the incident alerts FB page and figured I should check the thread.

I stopped at a campsite in my neck of the woods a couple weeks back with no body around, no open flame or red coals but the fire ring was hot enough that after I put enough water in the ring to get a puddle it boiled water for several minutes. This fire ring was literally 3 feet from a river bank so I'm not sure what the excuse was for not putting it out...

No bucket or other container to hold the water :D

Yep. And we went back today to finish the mop up. I actually just got home. We took our newer Mach 3 pump this time and it ran like a champ the whole time we were working. even with the rain we had last night there were still glowing embers in a few spots today.

Cheap floor outlet covers don’t seem to exist. All I can find is the whole floor outlet set up and they are all stupid expensive. I’ve been looking online for a while now.

and yeah I know. But I seriously do not want to rip it all out and redo the walls and ceiling. I also suck at drywall.

I've made covers for a few commercial applications. Mostly just steel disc's with holes to protect or repair broken ones from manlifts crushing them.

Set the outlet plug in part flush with subfloor. That way you drop a plate over it and it's all flush with your new flooring. Like a manhole cover in the street. Cover obviously larger than outlet so it bears on the subfloor not the electrical box.

$25 is just pricey enough where I'd be debating the same as you. but I'd very likely instead of covering with the flooring cut the hole, cap the wires inside, and just put a $1 metal cover on. then if I decided I want power there I'd spend the $$ Arlington Industries FLBRF101BR-1 Retrofit Electrical Floor Box with Flip Lids for Existing Floors, Dark Brown, 1-Pack - - Amazon.com

$16 here, i didn't look at shipping Arlington FLBRF101BL Non-Metallic Floor Box with Metal Covers and Flip Lids for Existing Floors, Black

Oh. That's different. Carry on  :flipoff2:

Shoulda bought it when ya saw it at Maaardins!
you check Mardens for paint? I definitely remember quarts of rustoleum for like $6, thought they had house paint too when I was there. Probably hit or miss tho

might be able to find an acceptable color cheap on craigs/FB that isn't inflated current price
