What's new

Lame small tire build

And the reason I scrambled to get it running and ghetto fab a skid plate was for some wheeling yesterday at Edison Butte OHV

Two other samurai’s, lots of Toyotas and a couple jeeps

One of the other Zuks I was wheeling with had a TT rear disconnect. Would love to have one instead of crawling around to pull the rear driveshaft for flat towing
I have the twisted TT shifter that has a 'true neutral' that makes flat towing less of a pain, but is less awesome at trail things. Lots of times I wish I had traditional twin sticks to more easily pull it into 2 low. The way the twisted TT works is you select 2 vs 4, and then high or low.

Traditional twin sticks and a rear disco is probably the ticket for being able to do cool shit on the trail and flat tow.

Yeah I really want to make a twin stick with my new mill since it seems like the ZOR ones are unavailable at the moment. Twin stick, front air locker and rear disco would be nice…..that a couple grand I don’t have yet

Rear air locker off and a front locker can do a lot of the same stuff as front dig with some practice.

Obviously does not help with flat towing though.....

Anyone make a full float rear kit any more? That with locking hubs would be ideal imo.

Only full float kit I’ve seen is the HM4x4 one in Italy, but it has been out of stock. I like the one Gwagensteve made with Toyota spindles and 30spline axles. But that looks like a ton of work.

I wonder if TT would make a few of the flanges with some interest? Wouldn't be hard to have some double spline shafts made.

Would be kinda nice to have the same spindle, bearings, hub, brakes, ect on all 4 corners.

I think it would be easy to replicate the HM4x4 spindle adapters since I have a lathe and mill.

YotaAtieToo who would make a custom 26spline axle? Dutchman and Moser I think only go down to like 30 spline

Ya, but no caliper mount

I'd think they would make it, but you may be right on it being expensive since it's a wierd size?

Nice

I forgot they have kinda a redundant channel. I'm guessing Graham and Kate do them both anyway, but maybe I'm wrong.

When you getting a front locker?

Maybe end of the summer i will. Don't really feel like taking it all apart again so soon. and i've become kind of a selectable locker snob so I need to save my allowance and collect some cans for another TRE4x4 one. :dustin:

I do like the selectable rear, auto front quite a bit. Don't you have a lunchbox you could throw in the front?

Although the samurai's are so light, my front part sometimes doesn't like to unlock

I took the lunchbox locker out and sold it to Tydes
Didn’t like how hard it made the steering. And it felt like it didn’t unlock often if ever.

Like I said I’ve become a selectable locker snob :flipoff2:

Sorry if I lost track. I thought you had it in the rear.

Surprised you've had soany issues with steering. Even the giant wide iroks I have steer half decent with stock tracker steering.

Did some 3D printing yesterday, found a simple bike handlebar radio mount on Thingiverse to use on the grab bar

Works on both the GMRS and HAM portables I have, seems like i wheel with one group that uses GMRS and then I’ll wheel with another group that uses HAM. So I have a small mix of gear. And both licenses.

Need to find one more magnetic external antenna, have one for GMRS but not HAM.

Shitty pic but i I ordered up a whole set of spring bushings. Stock ones are toast now.

Neglected the samurai for quite awhile but have been getting back into it. Going to try and tow it to the coast for some dune action in a few weeks. Have the front diff out getting an airlocker installed and bought a trail tough skid plate

Would have done the front air locker my self like I did the rear but we’ve been doing some house projects and have little time for zuk stuff at the moment.

Anxious to get this big skid on

Big skid went on fairly drama free, had to remove the catalytic convert shield.

Also got the wiring and plumbing ready for the new air locker. I don’t know if ARB’s are like this, but the TRE4x4 air locker fittings and solenoids are 1/8 BSPP. Ordered some stuff from a hydraulic shop awhile back and fingers crossed i don’t have leaks.

Had to double up on some of the sealing washers and used the purple pneumatic thread sealant just to be sure……not a lot of space under the ol zuk hood.

Hopefully the shop has my third ready to go this week.

I don't even give a shit now with that skid plate, I just drag my Sammi over shit without a worry!

Got my front diff back from Technique Vehicle Outfitters in Bend, gonna try to slam the front axle back together this weekend.

These three switches make me happy

I will say I’ve been having a good experience with the TRE4x4 parts so far.

This might just be my OCD but that switch order kinda has me twitching....
I guess its just personal taste between each person but I think I would go
Compressor-Front-Rear
OR
Front-Compressor-Rear

yeah, i see what you mean. I think Front-Rear-Compressor would be better, but i'm going to leave it for now and see how much it bugs me.

Selectables f&r in a Sami is crazy

I bet it's nice though. I hate how un-manuverable is for being so tiny. Even in 2wd, the spool really pushes the front around. Then add the front lunchbox and it's a joke.
