Another 100K would get me well past my current commitment period. With my current trend the next hundred will take about 5 more years.

Truck is cancer free, not a spec of rust. Has some dings and dents but overall good shape. The 3 pics in the Op are all very recent. Still 100% original. Original trans, original u-joints, wheel bearings, seals, rotors. Has only had fluids and tires replaced aside from 1 alternator and the turbo back exhaust.
I.....would have a lot of trust in all that and repair the turbo + maintenance and rock out. It also buys you time.
Older anything was harder to make fail, go down, need repair. Everything in my world has tech on top of tech on top of tech and is not necessary to perform the task needed. One straw breaks and everything grinds to a stop.

Less it more to me. (def)

You have the worlds most trouble free 6.4 apparently. I know you're probably waiting for 200k worth of headaches to come up at once, but if they haven't yet, they shouldn't come. Your usage is probably the best thing for that engine, and the work you've done to it makes it run more efficiently. I'd wager that if you keep using it how you've been using it, that engine will go to 4-500k

We got some people on the board in used car sales that kind of have me convinced that might never happen.
I am starting to agree with this.

Bought my 16 platinum almost a year ago. 24k miles. $60k.
They had a Lariat with 14k miles at $65k
Brand new 22 was $72k.

Looking at the ones I posted I don't think prices have fallen for comparable trucks.

There's going to have to be a major recession to do any good to that end.
Our company upped gross sales forecast from 2.4 billion to 3.5 billion for 2023, no recession for the rich.

For the non-FB'ers:beer:

If you like the truck, I would keep it or Buy another low mile version of the same truck that is out fitted exactly as you want it. I did this with a Bronco many years ago. I had a 1988 and bought a 1990 that came from the factory the way I should have got the first one. I still have that Bronco and it’s road worthy. If I didn’t build the HEMTT, It would be my DD still.

nOOB question:
How much would it cost to rebuild/replace the motor of that rig?

1) Rebuild: _______
2) Crate motor replacement: _______

While I'm at it (:flipoff2:):
Are auto-trannys in semi trucks any good?
Certified reman from detroit (if available) installed would probably $25k-$30k
After market rebuilder $15k-$20k
Rebuild yourself $8k-$12k

800k miles on a Detroit 60 series, not much left in that engine worth saving.

2 types of auto trannies but that is probably an auto shift, not an allison.
Auto shift is a mechanical trans that is shifted with motors or servos. They are pretty decent with the proper calibrations.

But they are often Slooow.

Not my personal experience, so grains of salt and all that.

My uncle had very negative experiences with multiple reman'd 6.4s in his F450 for about the last 8-9 years. The engine that came in the truck from the factory was the best running and lasted the longest. Everything that came after that, and especially after the switch from new OEM engines to remans, became increasingly worse until the truck was basically back at the dealer getting some kind of cab off work every 10-15k miles until he finally said fuck it and bought a 6.7.

6.4s seem to run on the magic smoke sparkies talk about. The factory installed smoke is the highest quality and if it hasn't been let out yet, chances are you still have a fair bit of it left.

Given what you've described and how you feel about the situation I'd slap in new turbos and understand that from this point forward they are going to be a consistent maintenance item until you either repower it with a cummins or switch to a different truck.

I think there is some confusion, does it just need turbos or full short block/rebuild? JR4X

If you get a reman its probably one of mine grossing 22k everyday and idling a PTO for 10 hours a day...
That engine handled 22k no problem when it was running though.

This one I could see myself in. Not sure about 57K for a 7 year old truck though.

Right now it for sure only needs turbo’s and an actuator. Plus a couple sensors.

I can get that done for $3500 bucks. +/- whatever else pops up once the cab is in the air.

If I spend that 3500 and then something bigger takes a shit. I have to be prepared for that.

And I wouldn’t have been interested in paying you 61K for a used truck you paid 61K for brand new. I’m not interested in a 21 for 61k.

I’m not interested in financing 61K or more.

This is what I’d be interested in replacing my older one with.

Pros it’s exactly what I want in a truck. I could maybe stomach the price.

Cons. It’s only 3 years newer than my old one.

But you're interested in an older, less equipped, higher mileage truck for $4k less:flipoff2:

Serious question, why not step up to a bigger dedicated truck for a hauler?

Uh no I’m not. We’re spit balling here. That’s the model of truck I’m interested in. At that price I’m not interested at the moment.

Because these little CC/SB’s do everything I need. I can gross 30K pounds without hurting it or being in danger. I can haul 5 full (plus size) adults in it. I can chase races with it. Can’t use a big truck as a pit vehicle. I need my rig to do more than just tow the trailer

Ok, makes sense.

Im still advocating a common rail Cummins swap though. Keep the truck you like (08-10 is one of my favorite body styles too) and get a more reliable engine.

From what I remember, try and get the the 15-16 without going to the alumiduty. Better turbo and injectors and I think there was something.

I'm not a cummins fanboi. I'm a big proponent of a medium duty straight 6 in a pickup truck, and since nobody else pushed it, cummins it is. You're on borrowed time with any 6.4, not hating, just is what it is. The common rail cummins to 5r110 seems to have been well sorted out

Don't overlook selling that engine while it's still running:laughing:

I’d roll the dice on that. Say it ends up costing $5000 and it gets you another 50k miles you’ve done pretty good. If it goes another 100k you’ve done really good. And if it remembers it’s a 6.4 next week and blows up you’re only out an extra $5000.
