What's new

Javier Milei / Argentina

Interesting comment about Milei using inflation to cut spending. Where he can't make cuts, he keeps 2023 spending in place, letting inflation cut real spending very substantially.

IIRC Rand Paul has been proposing a similar scheme for a long time. By freezing spending for a number of years, budget could be balanced fairly quickly.

When you, or he, refers to freezing spending, what kind of spending are we talking about here and what impact would that have?

The problem is the US government funding comes from all kinds of channels, which have their own mechanisms. Many of them are on auto-pilot when it comes to renewal and increases.

"It's complicated"

When it comes to defense I'm all for approving not a dime more than the Pentagon can actually account for in an audit. They've failed every single one and I mean BAD. They can only account for about half of their spending.

We need another Truman Commission.

No disagreement here. Just curious about any potential negatives if spending was frozen for all things.
Military - lower recruitment, a stagnant year in R&D?
Social security - old folks check stays same as prices increase, grandma can't afford groceries?
Border patrol - illegals crossing increases while ability to combat that remains the same?

If such a "cut" was made, you and I know the machine would make the cuts as painful to the public as humanly possible, rather than trying to use the money they have more efficiently.

One of the things that have always made no since to me, if you have a surplus next year your budget is cut by that much. This leads to last minute spending nonessential things. Instead the left over should be taken back into the general fund, and you get your new funding for the next year

So called cuts mean instead of getting !0% more you get 5%

You know what's hurting military recruitment worse than anything? Vietnam, Iraq (x2), 20 years in Afghanistan for nothing. Then good luck getting taken care of as a vet. Who the fuck is signing up for that shit?

The Pentagon has a massive bloated budget that just gets filtered into the pockets of private contractors l, they can't account for an absolutely staggering sum of money and yet we can't take care of our soldiers. Some real late stage pure shit going on. Feels like the people in power are just trying to squeeze every dime out of the grift before the house of cards comes tumbling down.

Don't forget, also the gay/tranny agenda and total political/racist nonsense. Too many vets I hear saying they are so glad they are out and would never consider it these days due to all that bullshit.

Do you really think funding is the root of the border problem?
I came back from Mexico today. While waiting in customs some little kid went under the barriers and into the airport. An agent chased him down and brought him back to his parents.

It took everything I had to not congratulate him on finally stopping someone from entering the country illegally.

My son in law is an E7 filling an E8 position with no chance of getting the promotion because he’s a white boy conservative. His record is spotless with max +values on every review and he tested in the top%.

Guess he knows what being black in the army in the 60s was like.

As soon as they find a pregnant trans poc he’ll be back to real work and the unit will go to shit more because the senior nco and officers are all dei instead of best qualified.

The real reason why military recruitment is way down among white males.

The biggest problem for USA Citizens, is even when the Government spends itself broke, it still has a safety net.

Private property and wealth that it WILL TAKE AND STEAL. Under communism, that safety net doesn't exist and they know that.
