What's new

Java's F450 RV

Well that makes it a bit more difficult. I threw away all my old tires....

Yeah, you're gonna have to break a tire down to take your measurements.

That is assuming the Hutchinson inserts are rubber like the h1 ones are. If the hoops were rigid plastic or metal you could take your measurements from that, but if not, then you have to take your own. If the insert width is wrong, either its too narrow won't hold the beads in place and not do its job, or it's too wide and you won't be able to tighten the wheel down.

Reference; they make the h1 inserts to your specific tire.

They are rubber. I sent a bunch to the dump last time I was doing trash runs.... Crap:lmao:

Got a nice dump this weekend.

How much wind resistance is there/can you feel when you're rolling down the highway?

When I mounted the truck camper on the Bronco; the little exposed section of the front vertical wall really caused wind resistance (relatively speaking).

Never driven without the box, so no clue....

Can you feel the front wind resistance, though?

None/little/med/high resistance?
Not really? maybe if there is a heavy head wind I can feel it a little more (really just more boost on the boost gauge) but that's it really.

I realized that as soon as I looked at your thread......

Exactly right..... Buuut loook at all the gear options! A 5.12 would probably be just about right with the 41" tires.....

Sooo what would make a helical LSD not work? wrong gear oil weight?

And according to that spec, I am pushing over the HP and TQ limits?? Even stock 6.4?
Late to the party, but try getting on the brake a bit...the more load you put to it, the more it will "lock" up. If both wheels have some traction they work great...if there is no traction at all and no resistance...it won't drive the side gears into the case with any kind of force and will act like an open diff.

Thanks for the input! That is what was suggested. I think there is just ZERO traction on either wheel in that scenario. West slop is slippery, as is frozen slop. :lmao:

Anyone know how to avoid a serp belt tensioner? One of mine too a shit.... And I'm in BC Canada.... In the middle of nowhere

😬😬😬

So it's providing no resistance, or worse?
Nope, threw the belt..... No alt no PS no power brakes. It's fucking done. bearing parts puked out, pully just flops around.

And I think the fan shroud has to come off.....

Got anything on hand to half-ass some kind of bushing to shove in place of the ball bearings just to get to a some place with parts?

Waiting for taxi to get me to the nearest town. They supposedly have one in stock. And I don't have enough extensions to get the fan shroud off.... Tow is scheduled for after 8pm.....maybe

Well that was a long ass day. I got the wrong tensioner..... No time to get back into town again (plus expensive as shit) My wife saved the day she asked if we could combine the parts. Somehow I didn't think of that :lmao:

So the old tensioner was used with the idler wheel off the new one. Reassembled and drove home.

So after re routing the belt 4x just to make sure it wasn't wrong (tried new and old belts....) I will order all new idlers and tensioner now.... And I think I can do it in a 6 pack or so now that I have practice!

Victory!

I've had a few adventures like yours you had today. Glad to see you got it done. Always an even better day when your significant other offers help.

She saved the day. I didn't even think about swapping pullies. I was so pissed at that point when I figured out the wrong tensioner. They look exactly the same, just pivot/tension opposite directions.

I'm sure being warm and cozy in the camper while you were stressing it helped her thought process:flipoff2: Glad you got it sorted out.

Ha! She was outside learning new curse words half the time. And cooked me lunch, so I'm not complaining.

But my arms look like I fought a rabid racoon yesterday :lmao:

Making a list of shit to fix now.
New tensioner and idler pullies. I assume they re-used them when they swapped the motor.
New Serp belt.

What else should I be doing?

Drain and fill coolant? It has 55k ish on it.

Looks like body mounts are toast, but not sure how important those are.
Debating just doing radius arms to see if more caster helps with front tire issues?
Rear shocks and springs need to be done at some point.
King pin bushings? Could that be part of the front tire shit?
I don't want to think about front unit bearings..... But maybe?

Debating wheels and tires again.....
Taking opinions.....
19.5 wo/ any insert.

20" LT Tire

or 20" MPT81

Also, how hot is too hot for these. I think I saw 260. Should I be worried?

water pump?

260* water temp? That's well in to too fucking hot.

Not sure I can get to the water pump without taking the cooling stack off? I will check. I would think a short block would include a new water pump? And if that's the case it only has 55k or so on it. I am guessing they re-used the tensioner?

Yes 260 I think is what I saw when I shut it down.... When the belt was off. Had to get off the road. It was only a couple mins....

As cold as it was ambient temp wise you are probably fine.
I thought you were seeing those temps on grades etc.

260* is fuckin hot. That plus highish egts on an incline would melt down a motor quick.

If it still runs its fine. May have scored a cylinder but not worth tearing into. Could do a compression test for peace of mind if you want.

short blocks generally include nothing.
I'd imagine they took the entire accessory drive system and all the stuff on the front of the motor from the old one.

It drove 3 more hours home...... Hopefully nothing bad happened. It was either take a good chance of getting side swiped or drive it hot. It was almost full hot on the factory gauge. But again, only a couple mins.

Yes agreed. I am assuming it was a short not long block. Done on the cheap, ao I think tahts probably accurate.

even a long block isn't coming with accessories, it just comes complete ready to bolt them on. short blocks generally don't have heads, just a block and rotating assembly. Long blocks are usually complete and ready for you to bolt on covers and an oil pan.

in my experience. I've never replaced a power stroke.

Got it, I guess I assumed a water pump wasn't an accessory.

Def a long block then the heads had the reman sticker on them (i am pretty sure....)

yeah, regular shop isn't likely to mess with heads and all that, so probably a long block, but everything else came off the old engine unless somebody paid to replace it while it was out.

water pump would be a no brainer thing to replace, but some people are dumb, or just don't know any better or to ask questions.
edit:or its warranty work and ford ain't paying for none of it other than the block.
