Ok, so I am back from my Hammers trip. What a week!
It was carnage filled unforunately but that is part of the game. I also had a few firsts on carnage.
The past 3-4 years I feel most times out at the hammers I dont get to wheel much and do a ton of wrenching on rigs. This trip I was going with two guys who have dialed rigs and figured we would knock out trails, and this time I was the broken guy. In terms of issues, I haven't broken a locker in over 5 years....this trip that happened.
I have never broken a main leaf, that happened. I have never ever broken a link bracket off the frame, that happened. I have never exploded a johnny joint, that happened. Lots of firsts....but, I am now going to build my rig even better then before.
Day 1:We ran Sunbonnet, Highway 19, Highway 20 and Resolution. No carnage. Just a flat out awesome day.
The first obstacle on the left on Sunbonnet I was told was a tough one and a few struggled in the past to get it but I walked it with ease, and so did everyone else. It must have gotten easier, or we took a new line that just worked. I then took a few other optional lines and made them. I was stoked on how the Hummer was working!
There are plenty of tight spots on these trails and I have said it a million times but I will say it again. Without the cage work, I would have a raisin. Instead it just slides on the tubes.
A crazy windstorm blew through. We couldn't see for shit. It is crazy how the went from beautifiul, to crazy wind, to rain, to hail and then back to windy and eventually nice again a day later.
We went back to the house, which I have never rented a house at the hammers but man is it much nicer then tent camping! It is nicer then RV camping just for the fact that you have a concrete pad to work on stuff.
Day 2: The day from hell, Outer limits. I have attempted to run Outer Limits 4-5 times and each time someone broke and we turned around.
This time we got through but not without issue.
We took a way to Outer Limits I have not gone before so that was cool. It was the way through Emerson dry lake bed. It was so smooth and flat you could drive however fast you wanted! It was so much fun.
Got to see an old mine.
and before you know it, we are on outer limits with carnage.
