What's new

Future of KOH 4400 chassis/car development?

it wont be muddy unless it continues to rain. current conditions will leave a chewed up course full of square edges for the main race.

if the ruts set into concrete it's going to be more miserable than if it was sloppy. Hope the ruts that do set actually follow the course....

My money is on Josh Blyler or Eric Miller if it stays sloppy anywhere but unless it rains more it'll be long dried out anywhere that matters for the race course by race day. it's just the lakebed and the pits that will suck out loud. Yuck

Great interview with JAson Scherer and some look into the future. He has driven most all contenders and knows the differences. He is also not locked in to anything so if he could make a $200k SXS win he would save the maybe $400k difference. One car is close to that difference, but at that level there is probably, also, three of EVERYTHING ... Plus qualifying parts, where 1000 lbs may disappear off the car, and a special tune for everything. Jason thinks there are 15 real contenders. That has been growing of late. (I remember back when 5 was the number...and then there was this Healey guy...)

An almost perfect run got the SXS to 6th place and significantly behind hurt 4400's. No one is worried..... But they are not golf carts anymore and the guys would congratulate any winner. .

Tune in on the Jason's thoughts in the Wheeling Wine and Whiskey podcast...just released. All did a great job of getting one of the top hands-on thinkers to explain that top level. I think the WARN Platinum winch and some BD lights are the only "consumer stock" parts on the car, and arguably performance parts. Because they are the best and fastest solution when needed. (Winching is not about line speed...It is about a remote so the co-dog or whomever doesn't have to physically run to engage or dis.... the line. At the top level no one considers marketing for winning results.

Episode 244? About 2 hours. Listen carefully. Pause and think if you have to.

Comments about course cutting is naive. KOH was never about a course...except that you had to go up or down said canyon to a spot and etc. Technology allowed virtual points that had to be electronically hit to try to keep most "in the rocks." I am not sure if there are any hidden points but I am sure that it has been lobbied for. But KOH is a VCP race. How to get to those several hundred virtual points the fastest is the point. If fastest is the cliff..... and want to chance it......have at it. Hero or zero. I DO remember that you had to stay within certain feet of the GPS line, but is rarely enforced because of proof and being squeeky clean yourself. If they are concerned, they will add a VCP. More each year. Why pre-running is important in SO-CAl/Baja racing. I don't know the details but pretty much the "game." Local knowledge generally places you well up in the order. OK. There are new trackers and that will make the long races closer to "short track" for those in the stands. Listen.............

Yep thats for sure. Did you see she totalled her truck/trailer on the way down and was just happy it drove good enough to make it.
Yeah, and she’s camping in the camper and out pre running during the day. She’ll worry about the truck and trailer when she gets home. She’s a trooper

I know Amber personally, she is a great person. She is nice, caring and dedicated.

With that said, I’d love to see her get into the top 15 of 4400 but I think she’s a ways away from that. Going from a leaf spring samurai on 35s to a 4800 bomber car racing 4400, I am sure there is a big learning curve. She has never finished 4600, and that’s not a knock on her, there’s not many 4600 finishers to begin with.

Do I think she is capable long term? Yes, she has no quit in her, so she will get there at some point but I imagine it’s still a few years away.

The caveat, is, I could be totally wrong based on the mindset of she had a pencil to fight in a gun fight (samurai) and now she has a gun in the gun fight (bomber car) and kills it.

I’m thinking it’s my first comment but we shall see

A lot of this. I’m curious how much of Randy’s “competitive drive” has rubbed off in the last couple years vs the “experience” and “survival”. No doubt there is “no quit” in her.

Isnt she racing 3 classes and 3 different cars?

Shit! Just got off the phone with dad. I’m at work and leaving later today. One of our guys was towing his rzr in a 20 foot enclosed trailer behind his 40 foot diesel pusher motor home. the 12" drop hitch to make the connection from the big ass motor home to the little bumper pull broke. Then the safety chains broke. Trailer hit the bank and tipped over on its side. They pulled my little Bronco out of the race trailer and used it to winch the trailer back onto its wheels. The pictures are from after tipping trailer back over. The rzr stayed tied down and didn't get hurt. Chuck is headed to Yucca to go try to find a new drop hitch. Dad is working on the trailer. I’m on standby waiting to hear what else we need to bring with us to recover the fumble.

Also what any reasonable person would do.

Camper still works. Truck still works. Not enough reason to cancel a hugely expensive and important trip.
Truth all around and I'd like to think that would be my mindset as well. However, I have wheeling buddies that would have just packed it all back up and headed home after that accident. So just stating that it is good on her to keep on trucking.

JR4X ouch on the trailer issues! Glad everyone was alright and I'm sure there is a less destructive way to test the effectiveness of tie downs than that...

SLOWPOKE693 i randomly saw a mav r picture with a pinch point sticker on the front upper arm. looked like it was running 37s. seen anything like that?

Ya. Double E Racing, the Miller brothers shock tuner posted that picture. Those are 35s from what I can see. They are running their X3's from last year in 4400 with 37s on them. :smokin:

thats a 35? does it rub after it ballons?

Maxxis 35 isn’t small

Worn 35x10.5 BFG KR2 came of, 35x10 Maxxis Zilla went on.
Stuck an unmounted 35 Maxxis next to the 37” Toyo spare for the truck and it’s a solid 2” difference at least.
