Fireball releases a giant vise - the Hardtail

I am still waiting on a reply as to how to get on the list, what options are available, shipping ect. Sent PF a message to start the dialogue.
You know this isn't a sale or done by a vendor, right?

I've wanted to build his vise since I saw it on YouTube - I even bought the plans. I'm interested in a kit to make that a possibility sooner than my current plan of "maybe one day".

But I'm in no rush - if if's your busy season, or you want to wait to get a certain number to fit a certain size plate, no worries.

I was going to ask why not use a hydro ram, but then I went back and checked Fireball's video, and his screw makes 20T. If it ain't broke...

Really want one but rarely use the current vise. Plus where the hell would I fit one between all the other equipment.

I'm bowing out on the vice parts.

I bought the vice plans from Fireball. Happy to provide proof of that to Panzer or Grendel via PM.

I have a Hypertherm 45XP on the way and placed an order for the Arc Droid. I'll wait til Feb 22 and cut my own.

Thanks guys for helping me spend my money.:flipoff2:

Pallet of parts all ready to go. Just missing handles. I spent the most of the day Sunday fucking with the handles to get something acceptable on my plasma table. After fucking with it for a few hours, I rechecked the drawing and one of the hex’s were drawn slightly smaller :homer:. I still didn’t get something I was happy with. I’m gonna make one with 1.5” hex and one with a 1.625 hex for those who use the acme thread.

I’m gonna schedule a evening with my little brother and use his new shit to get a better cut. He is one who wore my shit out lol. What a dickhead haha.

Tubes are here, and a few swivel vise cutouts. I need to make a weld cutter to clean up the big tube so I can nest them to ship. The second batch of steel cost about $2000. The price of steel is gonna have to come down or everything is gonna get way expensive in the near future.

I apologize for taking so long. Just get beat working 12+ hour days 6 days a week and a half day on Sunday. Another few weeks and work will finally freeze up and slow down :flipoff2:.

Flat packs will go out first a soon as I get acceptable handles made. The handles will still need some minor fitting to fit your nut. Tubes will be available week or two after to give me time to get the weld cleaned out of the big tube.

By then work will have slowed and if no one else wants to make the jaw holder and front block I can bang them out.

I wish I was wealthy enough to not have to work during the week so I could do stupid shit like this all the time lol.

Tentative list:
bgaidan
Grendel
Mouse
Java230
SARR
Pt_Ranger_v8
chaplinfj60
EndlessMtnFab
jptbay
71PA_Highboy
yep
Gots_a_sol
PAToyota
findley
Broncokyle88

Did I miss anyone?

Fawk yeah!

No rush on my side. But that's a nice pile of parts.

Looks awesome. Thanks for your efforts. I know when I used to work construction, fall was always the busiest time of the year.

I'm not in a rush here. If it means you need extra time and gives you the chance to work out a kink or two --- ain't no sweat off my back.

I'll send a DM / PM later on.

Yep. I'm in. Post up a price and I'll send you a PPal or however you need funds sent.

Your efforts are greatly appreciated. No rush here. I ended up working late three (four? fawk, it all blends together...) nights this week and spent most of the weekend catching up on what should have been done those evenings. There aren't enough hours in the day or days in the week lately...

This is cool. I already have a decent sized vise or I would be going this route. When I was in Australia, those guys all had “angle” vises. (If that’s what they are called) The jaws were offset to one side. It was real handy for grabbing something long vertically. Never seen one over here.

Edit, they are called offset vises. I found one.

I think with a few mods, you could make them from flat plate.

Oh fuck. I want that.

Hey ThePanzerFuhrer, we're gonna need you to cut a few more pieces.... :flipoff2:

Lol that wouldn’t be too bad to make lol. My sons birthday was this weekend took him to a water park. screwed working on shit this weekend.

Put be on the list!! I’ll shoot a PM

How much weight should one of these need to keep it planted? Wondering about mounting one on a old square baler flywheel (~30" in diameter, 4"x6" solid rim on the disk).

I don't think I'd mount this monster on a movable base. Seems like you wouldn't be able to fully take advantage of it unless you had something that weighed 800 lbs.

I posted this pic earlier that I found on google. You could copy the rolling support idea and probably have something stable. Otherwise, look at how wide it opens and would overhang even a big drum brake base.

That thing looks fancy, but it would be grungy in no time. All those speed holes on the side would be full of grease. I painted mine bright yellow when I got it and it’s yuck now.

Yeah, it's a cool art piece for a "clean" shop but I'd never go that far. But there are some design elements that we could borrow from him.

I had an only slightly smaller vise bolted to a plate on a table saw base for a long time before I had a shop. It worked fine. I think you could make something like this mobile fairly elegantly if you just stuck it on three 2" pipes like a tri-stand.

I move this around with a hand truck, the vise and the base each weigh 175 lbs-ish
