What's new

Fireball releases a giant vise - the Hardtail

oof
good thing you got all that fresh new roof space
you'll have to punch a steam tunnel over there to get them all on the same boiler

Got some more time to try and finish up today. I like the handle but I have a feeling my boys will loose it for me. So I decided something non removeable was a good idea. Drilled a hole in some stainless and welded it to my nut, then cleaned it up on the lathe. powdercoated it black. Got some 3/4 stainless and some old ball bearings. The rubber out of a Chicago hose fitting made perfect bumper padsprobably made it a little long but I like it. The other guys finished up today also. Never would have picked it but the purple looks killer in real life. It's Eastwood translucent grape if anyone is wondering.

There can be a sale, you can volunteer to carry the shit around. The parts weight like 80+ pounds each vise.
Vise is working amazing and I still want a powder coat setup but no room for oven. Maybe IR lights instead

Try loosening the jam nut that holds the bearings together just a touch.
I can confirm that this did solve the tight spots issue I had, thanks again!

And additionally, I did get paint on it.. Possibly one of the worst paint jobs I've done, but it should help keep it from rusting.
I still haven't mounted it yet, but since the press was blocked in, the BIG vise got used for pressing u-joints out of my 2500's rear driveshaft.

or all that old iron you bring home

Yeah, I actually realized after I posted that I have a 3x4 piece of 3/4" plate that I picked up like 2 years ago to make a table. Just need to weld the legs and bracing to it.

I have the numbers in the fireball plan and the irwin jaws. But whats the mc master number for the ACME coupler nut and rod?

Well.... After months since I fucked mine up by welding the sides with the jaw tube inside... It's free! :homer: I had my HF press all twisted up trying to press it out:lmao:

It gouged a huge chunk of of the side of the jaw tube that I need to fill in then re profile the whole thing to slide right again.

After that I'm almost done:laughing:

Gauging interest in how many sets I need to start getting parts for? I’ll slowly start working on this now that shit has kinda slowed down for the year.

I’ll get a list made of what everyone wants and start working through it.

Still looking for a set of tubes, I think I'd PM you about them a while back.

I need to see if any coworkers want to build one. What was the total price again for everything?

Made a new mounting plate for the vise. I need to convert the stand over to the same bolt system so I can switch grinder, buffer and vise out if needed. Most of the time the vise can live on the table.
