What's new

Fireball releases a giant vise - the Hardtail

I’m gonna get some quotes from the water jet guys this week to see what the swivel bases would cost to get cut out buy them. The flame cut ones are ok. Not nice enough for what your vises look like :flipoff2:.

I almost got through my list just a few more to make parts for and then I’ll make up some swivels and possibly some nod plates also.

Did they get the fancy new one that does bevels running yet?

I love you, too.

I need two bases.

Yeah that’s a plasma cutter. I’m not too sure on them guys yet. Still needs a lot of learning to be done before they get good at it . :lmao:

WTF is a nod plate?

Pretty sure I want one, or two maybe?

Got mine all welded up over the past few nights.

Got some more welding done today. Scratch start tig gets the job done but i like my high frequency machine at home. Didnt get a picture but i took 10 thou off each side of the sliding tube. Welding shrunk the big tube enough it wouldn't fit back together. Set it up in the mill and made sure the height was the same on all 4 jaw legs. Also got the jaw holders milled and holes drilled. Need to drill the aluminum and weld the jaw holders on.

Here’s a video for @[486] to show the lack of chatter. I’m surprised this worked. Got 13 tubes out of that stone and she still has meat left for a few more:smokin:.

Ran out of jaw die retainers gonna get those done then I should get the rest of you guys parts sent out who are still waiting quietly :flipoff2:.

Soon as I get those done I need to start on these. Grendel is gonna get impatient. :flipoff2:

Fkn ANIMAL look at those scored up ways :flipoff2:
I'm surprised at how fast you can feed it in there. Easy to forget how quick a nice coarse and open abrasive will cut.

btw when you do the tapered keeper key, don't hammer it in there too hard before cutting the ends off
morse taper's real easy to get a tool shank in there way too deep cause of how shallow a taper it is

I was going slow on the one in the video. I sped it up by 25-30% on the next ones. Was hard to hold phone and feed at the same time. :lmao:

I’m still amazed it did that. I would have bet the farm, saying it was gonna chatter. Sometimes a guy can get lucky:smokin:.

The spindle has both a keeper slot and a slot for a drift wedge to get it back out. Not too worried about getting it stuck in there. :flipoff2:

As the ways go she was pretty beat when I got her, when I die it will go to the scrap man as no one will want it

they can still get to the point where you end up needing to beat on both sides of the spindle in a synchronized manner with a couple hammers before the wedge will move the drill

Lol never had that happen . Let’s hope it doesn’t :flipoff2:

Nah, I am patient. Have other projects in the fire.

Mine are welded to the bases you sent. I hope to be able to weld that base to the new base.

I am stoked and amazed that you're still doing these. We all owe you. I think I am going to send you some beer money with the 2 pivot bases.

@here please be sure if you get some of these, that you buy the fireball plans.

Panzer is a rock star.

How many sets have gone out? Wonder how many pounds of steel have savaged the postman?
Must be close to 25-30. I’m running out of boxes for the tubes :lmao: need to order another batch. There are about 6 or so names left on my list. Should be getting those sent out soon.

The parts weigh 86 lbs each so a little over a ton. They hate me around here :lmao:

Got another batch of jaw die holders started last night. Got them cut and machined to length. Hopefully tonight I can mill and tap them.

I have the urge to repaint mine once my Skat 33V sandblaster cabinet shows up. Few paint drips are driving me nuts but also debating on building or buying the a precut swivel base. The vise well for my items.

How’s it working for you?

Working well so far but I should make a tilt base for it one day. Tilting might be more important for me since my base can be rotated.

Hell I still need to bolt some jaws to it:lmao:

Damn that’s clean. Way cleaner than mine… I went with the send it method. 🤣

One of the guys has a little Eastwood powder coating machine. Never used one before but it was pretty cool. I got a pound of powder for about 20 bucks, and didn't even use half only bummer is it was supposed to be metal flake and it's more like glitter, hard to see unless it's in the sun. All in all it looks nice, and it's gonna get beat up anyways.
