What's new

Fireball releases a giant vise - the Hardtail

Have yall seen this? Holy fuck it's cool.

Don't see myself wanting a standard vise, but this multi jack/vise is right up my alley:

I see he modified the rear cap design similar to how I had mine. Now unbolts to be able to replace the tube nut.
Good in theory too heavy to use in practice. Dam thing weighs 80 some pounds without the jack stuff.

And not like Stainless is lighter either.

Finall got my ass going and getting some more parts made.

Who needs cnc? :lmao:

I’ll start pming you guys who want stuff tonight and get some more shipped out.

Still fucking with the tubes so those might need to wait a bit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that with the rotary table :lmao:
Screw single point boring that. The rotary table can cut that bore in 45secs lol. Just about blew my nutsack out trying to lift that fucking thing on the table. God damn thing has to weigh 200lbs. Only spot In the shop I cannot get the fork lift too.

How big is yours?

My 12" is pretty manageable, not much worse than a big vise.

Also worked on the base. The brass is a fixture to chuck up the plate circles and put the bevels on them. One set of holes holds the threaded plate and the other set is for the top plate.

Made the bottom plate inset a little so it's not dragging when the base is bolted down.

So when are you sending swivel bases out?

Got a little more done. Mostly welding, and as much as I tried to keep it cool it still shrunk down on me so I'm going to have to clean up my inside tube so it fits nice again. We wanted our aluminum jaws to have some kind of knurled texture to them. Tested a few different methods but this is the

I wouldn’t get to carried away with the knurls. They will be smashed flat in under a week :lmao:.

I finally figured out how to clean that monster weld out of those tubes. Only on try 100 wtf:mad3:

I got pissed and put it on my hbm. Tried every cutter I owned, even digging through the dead bins. No go. Too much chatter too deep and slender. Fuck :mad3:

Said screw it I tossed a coarse as fuck grinding stone on a cut off bolt and tossed it in a drill Chuck. Turned the old girl up as fast as she spins and holy cow that’s the ticket. That stone actually makes chips with no chatter :lmao:. Need to make a real arbor extension and I’ll be in business. Who would have thought. :homer:

There's no kill like overkill, lol.

Wait, are you Brian block?

All my anger at these tubes has now went away. The grinding stone on the hbm is the clear winner. I can clean the weld out in a few minutes with no issues. Everyone needs a hbm in there shop :lmao:.

The 24” of spindle travel is awesome. Can do it all in one pass :smokin:.

Stupid mega weld. That thing is 3/16” tall.

I’m gonna get some quotes from the water jet guys this week to see what the swivel bases would cost to get cut out buy them. The flame cut ones are ok. Not nice enough for what your vises look like :flipoff2:.

I almost got through my list just a few more to make parts for and then I’ll make up some swivels and possibly some nod plates also.
