What's new

Driveway Alarms

I was in town last night and remembered that I forgot to respond to your post
trying not to sound ungrateful, what do you have that you are trying to get rid of ??

i cant use it, all its doing is sitting in a box in my house.

make you a better deal. if you pay for shipping, ill use that money to send a nice card and gift card to T-bone Grendel

Wood chippers are seemingly a good way to dispose of a body, and can provide instant fertilizer for your shrubbery. However, a bunch of people have been caught using this method, because it leaves evidence scattered all over your yard. Advances in DNA and forensic technology have make this method of disposal risky, even in the long term.

A wood chipper makes a great statement when used on pedophiles and traitors in a public setting, feet first of course, but I would not recommend it if you don't want anyone to know.

If you don't mind some nosy neighbor seeing your handy work, I suggest impailment. It makes a strong statement that you demand others respect your property rights.

New turn of events as of tonight

I ordered a set of those gay looking owl driveway dingers
Arrived yesterday, the kid wasn't around to help with setting it up so I hastily set it up by setting it on the fencepost and stuck the base in the shop

about 11:30 tonight it goes off as I was shutting lights off to go to bed
pitch black in the woods, I walked down the driveway and there was a car blacked out sitting there in front of my gate

I greeted him with a spotlight, and a .45
Guy claimed to be visiting the neighbors, but didn't want to wake them because he drove a long ways and it was late
I claim bullshit
I asked what was the neighbors names
he got them wrong
I claim he is full of shit
He claims he just wants to sleep until morning and not to wake them (the neighbors)
I claim bullshit again, and he can go over there and prove me wrong by going over and knocking on the door
guy (pretty sure he sees the gun at this point) is pretty eager to get moving
he goes over to the neighbors (it is a 5ac parcel next door) around the corner and blacks out again, but I can see the front door through the trees, and he hadn't done what he says he is going to do
so I get on the phone and wake the neighbors up and tell them what is going on
at this point, I was convinced that he was the 'wait guy', while the other guy (presumed) was working the property, so knowing the the neighbor was aware and asked me to lay low wile he got ready I circled back to my property to make sure everything was ok
I came back out, the car was pretty eager to get moving along after the neighbor greeted him with the AR at the car window, and obviously didn't know who this guy was either

with that said, the little gay looking owls worked great

the question is now,
do I start a new thread for cameras?
because I'd like a set of wireless remote cameras now, and the neighbor says he is going to be putting them up too

obligatory picture of sketchy dude below
, busted windshield, I know it is a small car, but t was FULL of crap one working taillight

I thought that I got a picture of the license plate, but it didn't turn out evidently
trying to juggle a flashlight, gun, phone, keep an eye on what this guy was doing, and keeping a look out for the guy that I am not aware of yet, and cold fingers .....I missed the picture

He’s not going to be able to steal too much stuff in a smart car.

Sounds like tweaker behavior. Didn’t they legalize all of the drugs In your state( or was it the other pnw state)?

Edit: if your neighbor is walking around his property greeting unwelcome tweakers with his AR at midnight, it’s probably time for you all to have a discussion with the sheriff about your agreed upon response protocols for these type of suspicious behavior investigations/ situations.

I doubt he will be back, armed response has a way of keeping tweakers away.

However, consider reporting this to the sheriff, just to cover your and the neighbor's asses if it escalates. They probably already know that dude. If he's on parole they might be able to violate him and send him back to the can.

Was anyone really stupid enough to believe DWT and SteveO when they claim that?

They must have discovered the elusive ‘stationary tweaker' whose natural habitat isn't actively seeking out copper wiring and aluminum cans to fund their next high during the short periods of time they're not too high to function...

....ooooorrrrr he'll tell his buddies, and they're all still pretty interested because there's guns to sell or trade for dope up in that neighborhood.:shaking:

What he'll be telling his buddies is to stay away from that street. The vast majority of thieves want nothing to do with vigilant, armed homeowners. Being confronted by two people on the same street would be enough to keep that guy from coming back. There are softer targets elsewhere.

if this is in fact a tweaker, that's a very different erratically behaving kind of criminal moron than a thief who actually cases the neighborhood.

i suspect this doofus in the smart car was probably so high he made a few wrong turns off the highway and turned off and passed out in OP's driveway. And he might wake up hungover and jonesing for a fix and start looking for scrap or shopping in a neighbor's toolshed, but he probably didn't set out on a quest to rob anyone and make off with their riches in the 8 cubic feet of excess space in said Smart For-two.

Tweakers can see you approach them with a gun and will enthusiastically say ' nice gun man!' and might even ask more details about it; they don't process threats terribly well.

trying to juggle a flashlight, gun, phone
The night my shop alarm went off at 1:30am, I struggled with the same issues.

I bought a gun-mounted light after that. Trying to unlock the shop door (that I thought I had left unlocked), hold a light to see the lock, and hold a pistol... it just didn't work. Gun-mounted light was purchased immediately after that.

I have a gun mounted light, and it was with me
I am trying to approach things as if I would want to be approached IF an innocent mistake was made
If this guy (who I don't know) in fact has a gun below the door (as I do daily) and someone shines me up with a flashlight mounted gun, I will immediately assume the worst is about to happen and attempt to to defend myself

At that point of the adventure, I still didn't know what was what, and he hadn't passed the closed gate, or No Trespass sign that I was aware of

so...the juggle happened

Only problem with that. Is then you are pointing your gun at everything. Thats not always ideal:laughing:

adding to the adventure
after running the guy off last night
I just stayed up until the kids were off to school, sun was just coming up and I walked the area again just to be sure that things looked ok in the daylight
as I was walking down the driveway, it is just getting to dawn, enough to see, but not totally light 6:15am
I see through the woods, the same guy whip back into the neighbors driveway
So I call the neighbor and tell him that he is back, and of course I have all these bad thoughts going through my mind.....why is he back?
I walked through the woods this time over there, as to assume that there might be some crossfire this time
I could hear the neighbor talking with the guy and smartcard guy drives away again

Neighbor came out with a handgun upholstered this time to greet him
Told the guy that he is making a lot of people nervous and he should really quit
the new weird part is I think he is looking for the previous owner of that property that moved away a few years ago
He did tell me that he was looking for a job when I was giving him the 1000 questions
Old neighbors did own some sort of business, but the guy is like 35 citys off of target to where they moved to if he is trying to find him

I am sure there will be more to the story to come

you dont look for a job at those hours
I actually got a job doing that
but I was arriving at a place of business during business hours
but business hours started at 5:30 and I bugged them until I was hired on just because they knew that Tuesdays and Thursday I was going to keep 'checking':grinpimp: on my way to my other job that I hated

but I wasn't at anyone's house, you know because guns and things

You and the neighbor would both be wise to make sure your concealed carry association $50 or $79/ yr legal shield shooting insurance is paid up, and that pocket reference card in your wallet reminding you what 2 sentences you can say that aren't "Officer, i'll be happy to cooperate with your investigation in the presence of my attorney'.
And again, you also need to have an in depth discussion with the sheriff whose jurisdiction you reside in about his interpretation of your state's castle doctrine.
(edit: This advice comes from someone having had a firearm in his hand with a tweaker flipping out on a neighbor's property who had none of those boxes checked and wished I did in the moment. The deputy who responded seemed rather perplexed and disappointed that I didn't perforate and dispatch the tweaker, so I now have a better understanding of their position. )

I'm thinking they have spent a lot of time casing the properties and that they may not be so willing to move on. I would be of the concern that they are determined, and plan to have to continue this until they are apprehended or buried somewhere no one will find.

For me it would be pointless to talk with the sheriff. The deputies would understand, but the sheriff was one to bend the knee with BLM during 2020. Stupid witch. She's never been on road patrol, never arrested a suspect, rank and file can't stand her.

Average time on the road for the deputies on road patrol: 2 1/2 years

The deputies that have "stopped by" while we are shooting because of a stupid neighbor (who has finally stopped calling after 5 visits from the sheriff's dept) have been friendly, asked what we were shooting, if we liked the firearm or not, took a quick glance at the backstop and said "enjoy your day, we're only here because we have to be."
