What's new

Don't we have a "bitch about idiots on CL or Marketplace" thread?

well, I'm meeting someone today for the bike. haven't cancelled yet, but its still early.

So I tried OfferUp and cl for a while to get off fb. Listed stuff for 1-5 days on those before fbmp, depending on how bad I needed it gone. Maybe 1 message on each, no serious buyers. Listed it on fbmp and most stuff was gone within a day or two.

I think fb works best for certain types of items. Household crap, generic tools, but only if listed at a pretty good deal for the buyer. Then it's a feeding frenzy and as long as you don't do holds or dumb crap you will get it moved. Average price stuff will sell but your going to deal with a ton of dumb.

Have a feeling I'm going to be headed to ebay with some stuff. Just need to price it up enough to cover the fees and now taxes. I'm not sure where else to sell business type equipment, used to have good luck on CL but nothing now

Are there bots that people are using to list on craigslist? I can barely navigate thru the BS in big cities like Atlanta of the same shit over and over.

Sometimes it's bots, but it can just be someone dedicated. I know of a tire shop in Jasper that hired some HS girl to just make cl postings all day for minimum wage. For her it beats working fast food, for them it's pretty cheap vs paying an advertising company.

I won't use Offerup either. They block VPNs so it's a pain in the ass for me to even try to use. But I don't like use my phone and apps for that kind of stuff in general, can't stand typing on a phone ever since they got rid of physical keyboards on them. At least with texting I can do that via a browser on my computer.

Just sitting here reading this thread, I've got a few mowers for sale. Guy msg's me and offer $810 for one i was asking 900 for. I said "Sure, come get it." Then he msg's me on another and offer's 810 for it.... I said, "Same guy, you can have this one too for that price or take both for 1600" haven't heard any more.. Guess he's not too serious. My experience is that if people talk price first and foremost, they aren't really that interested.

Guy has a car, selling for his dad. Doesn't know much about it, but is mechanically inclined. Call the dad, sounds great he built it etc. Get a video of it. Talk logistics and it was a close one but doable. I'm pretty stoked, start prepping to go get it.

Then.....I see he saw my question about still being on to do business. Late today he comes back with something about "dad left the title out of state etc. he is just going to take it with him etc....."

Really? Why is it so hard to buy a darn car? I wouldn't ever involve anyone in my affairs until I was 100% ready to go.

Search goes on for a slightly crusty muscle car.

listed a mower today old but runs good and is cheap $300 about 6 am FB and CL, 1 hit on CL and at least 40 on FB, a bunch of can I come Friday or Saturday or after work today.. finally got it sold at 9:30
one guy says hes on his way at about 7:45 live no more than 25 minutes away.....Crickets ....I have 5 other begging to come get it. didn't want to have 5 people here but we could have had a nice auction.... finally a guy says he is close and can stop by I gave him address he pulls in 15 minutes later, he is a landscaper out mowing today.. mower fires up first pull test drive and its on his trailer, done deal.

couple low ballers

Nothing but fucking low ballers. I have started responding with 50$ more than listing price and "I'll help you load it".

Pisses me off.

Go ahead and post some ads, fine. But don't post your shit with a 20000 word brick of "keywords" that have nothing to do with it. Then post in areas half way across the country :homer:

I've all but gave up on Craigslist. I don't think anything I've listed actually sold on Craigslist, and every time I'm buying, I never find what I need. If I do, they don't respond.

I like it when they are open about the fact that they are driving two and a half hours to get to you and your 30.00 part

I get it you need it, I don't. I'd rather see someone get some use out of it rather than see it go in the trash

they get there and low ball my 30.00 par with 10.00

nope, it is no longer for sale

have fun on your drive, :flipoff2:

true story:laughing:

I have a $20 hood on Facespace, guy was supposed to come last night but he found he is 2.5 hours away., poor planning or shitty googling of where I live.
he said he will come this weekend....will see if he shows

I get that frequently, yes I am 2 hours from you, didn't you punch the town that I am in (which is listed on the ad) into your preferred mapping program to see how much of a drive it will be?

That pisses me off. If you have FB or CL or offerup or any of these things you have access to a map and directions website of your choosing. Don't say youll take something, then realize you don't want to drive that far. Also dont send stupid message like "Where is xx". I get asking what part of town someone is in on bigger cities but JFGI

Also don't list ads with the location not being where the item is. Most of those are scams but there are a few idiots

What could be the problem with the item actually being in a town 20 miles from where the ad says it is? :shaking:

Aaron Z
Or the "oh, i'm listing it for my cusband's sisters boyfriend who lives in another town and doesnt have a phone number or email and is on probation so they can't meet you anywhere but you can show up to this street and look for a burgandy mercury marquis and tell them you want to buy it"

Trying to sell my dads car. I've got it up on various make specific forums, CL, FB, and autotrader. Higher mileage luxury SUV but in great shape and well maintained. It seems like once cars get over 120k, no one wants to touch them.

Literally autotrader has been nothing but bots. Its pretty wild I paid for that. CL's been pretty useless as well but for $5 I'm not too upset. Surprisingly, decent hits off FB marketplace.

Week 2 of this thing sitting on the market. Only guy interested is 6 hours away and he is being Comrade Question. Spent last night scanning tons of documents. I know you gotta put the effort in but FML. Also its a big ass SUV so detailing it was fun.

if he has you scanning documents he is fucking around. Buyers get there with the money. 6 hours away just means he won’t buy it unless you give him a discount for driving. And he probably still won’t buy it.

What's the price?

Problem is many banks and credit unions won't write a loan on cars over 100k. This is changing but not quickly. There is an area where cars are worth more than most people can scrape together to pay cash (5-10k) but too old/high miles for a loan. The BHPH lots and dealers do well on these since they can self finance and get around the rules, plus their target buyer feels like they are getting something nicer than the last few beaters

The 6 hour guy is playing games. He wants you to have so much time invested in working with him that when he low balls then nickles and dimes you it will still happen since you have sunk cost (time) in the deal. Tell him to shit or get off the pot

Probably right. That said, I did this with my last car, fucked around for 2 weeks before pulling the trigger. Also about the only lead I have. I get it, he is being picky but doesn't want to drive 6 hours for a potential dud. He has had a few of these cars and we had a 45 minute chat earlier this week. We'll see if he comes down this weekend. If nothing else, its probably good to go ahead and do all the crap he is asking for. Just pisses me off I can't find a local buyer. Last two cars I sold, I showed up at their bank, get a cashiers check, notorized the title (a requirement here), done.

Price is at $12k and has 168k. Already had one buyer fall through because they couldn't get more thank $9k from the bank. I told her to get on lightstream and try again.

Yeah you are right about that. The 45 minute phone call sucked me in. I might just call his bluff just to fawk with him at this point.

Have you looked into what places like Carmax or Carvana will offer you? With the higher miles it’s a crapshoot, but then again the market is crazy right now.

why are people so adamant about "THE WHOLE TRUCK AINT FOR SALE!!!!!!!! PARTS ONLY!!!!!!"

do they want the headache of parting out a generic pickup? if someone offers a decent price why the fuck wouldn't you want to get rid of it all at once? I don't get it. As a buyer if I'm buying a truck for parts I don't give a shit about a title and would rather have the parts truck at my house so I can take what I need when I get around to it, not wait for some ape to rip the parts off the truck for me
Because they lost or don't have the title

Item on FB now, dude messages me to see if his thing is compatible with my thing.
WTF google that shit, took me 30 seconds to do it ,then he shoots me a low ball offer, counter offer sent... nothing back yet, I'll message him a few times today to bug his ass.

Yeah I did. They are super low compared to the market. Basically they aren't going to flip the car, they'll send it to auction. So old school trade in prices apply. I'm trying to get ~$12k for the car but their trade in is like, $7-8k.
