What's new

Don't we have a "bitch about idiots on CL or Marketplace" thread?

This one’s on me. Seller on FB MP said it was a 5’x12’ trailer. Sweet just what I want. Looked short in pictures but angle was funky so whatever.
Left work early to find an 8’ deck trailer. My bad because I thought everyone listed by deck size.

Had an odd one today. I am selling a rough GMC truck. Had a guy (Bob) put down a $500 deposit last week and gave him 2 week to pay the rest and pick it up. Yesterday a lady came in and told me that Bob decided not to buy it and wanted his deposit back. Then she said it was no big deal, she would buy it.

I explained to her that Bob doesn’t get his deposit back and that until he said otherwise, the truck is sold. Bob showed up with the cash today, I notarized the title and he told me that his friend and his wife really liked the truck and wanted to buy it but it was his.

Some people have crappy friends.

Had this for an edger that I had up on FB:

All my messages stopped on the bike I'm selling. Still a bit early for bikes, but was hoping I'd have something. I'll wait it out another couple weeks then drop it by a hundred bucks. meh
If you don't want to pull the carb why don't you dump a whole can of seafoam in that bike and run it for a good while and see if you can clear some of the gunk out of it?

way ahead of you. :grinpimp:

actually, outside today I had it running for quite a bit. an hour at least. its actually drivable now. I'd go back and brap the throttle, it'd hiccup for a moment then go. a bit later that went away and I'd say its 90% there.

Got someone today looking at the bike. He's going back and forth on me with title, registration, and vin verification. He's trying to explain to me how it all works. he's wrong.

So now we're onto having a cop meet us at the site of the sale to confirm the VIN and that the 40 year old bike wasn't stolen. Apparently 40 year old carb'd cruisers are prone to theft? A VIN verification is something that takes two minutes to do after the seller buys it. But now he's calling the police to have someone meet us there. I'm not waiting around for a cop to show up.

Its a $1000 bike that needs a tire and motor needs to be run. Its not a difficult process.

Fuck all that. Not for a grand.

Is it from out of state? That's the only time you need VIN verification here. A picture of the VIN on the frame and case would show it is all good.

I had a dirtbike for sale on a trailer in the parking lot at work. Somebody called the cops to VIN check it because they thought it was theirs that had got stolen. They were wrong.

I'm not going to bother. good luck with sale.

I hate people.

all that bullshit only to back out. Now is when you tell him "okay fine, I'll drop it to $500. meet me at xx location at xx time."

Then ghost him
I just blocked him.

'round these parts, we call those hey look, there's one of there.

"Whats the lowest you'll take?"
I've gotten at least 30 of these.

I won't lie, I've been had. Figured I'd make a few hundred bucks on this, which I probably will, spent some time in the shop, hearing the bike run because I fixed it is always great, and I became familiar with the make. But man, dealing with the bullshit trying to sell it is annoying as all hell. Usually the bikes I sell are closer to a minimum of four or five grand. I don't do the sub $2000 bikes that often. these are so much more annoying.

Cheaper the product, the harder it is to sell it.

I sold my old Honda accord v6 6 speed. 2 people messaged me, 1 showed up with cash. Easiest sale ever.

Try to part out an old 350 crew cab and fuckers try to haggle on a plastic $10 interior trim piece.

Dunno.

Bet a few dudes are kicking themselves for passing up on a $400 forged rod 7.3 with stage 1 sticks, already pulled. Made space in the barn and its staying mine, now :flipoff2:

Yea most bikes I'll ask $8, they counter with 7.5, meet at 7.8, done. Takes five minutes. Different demographic of folks.

I've parted out a bike before and it got to the part is free just pay for shipping. I had people haggling me for shipping.

About a week ago I created a Facebook to sell shit since craigslist has tanked. I have listed a jeep cj7 and some jeep parts in separate ads. I have not had one message. Do you have to have friends and be active on Facebook for your shit to be seen?

I guess I am Craigslist spoiled. I hate the way Facebook just throws everything in one big bucket. Sure, search for what you are looking for, but I like perusing through items of similar use. I may not know the right searchword, or maybe the seller is headfooked so the thing I want would never show up on a search. Or something goes up for sale I never even knew existed but would be awesome to own.... Probably someone will jump in to call me a boomer and explain how I am being stupid.

Hate facebooke.

Pix of bike?

FBMP is getting worse by the minute.

Is this still available? Yes. Crickets. <<has happened literally hundreds of times
You post something up, and all the laughing assholes come in and shitty up your thread saying the price is too high, or they can get it cheaper someplace else. Why bother? If you think it costs too much, MOVE ON. I know you can turn off comments, but you can't turn off the assholes and their little emojis.

I tried selling my Luv truck that way....priced it high since it was about the nicest Luv truck anyone has seen in 20 years. The laughers and the assholes became quickly unbearable. Stupid lowball offiers. People sitting in their mom's basement and could never afford what you're selling in the first place.....Then one guy says List it on BAT and then you'll see how overpriced it is. So I did just that. BAT was a nice selling experience and I got my money out of the truck.

If I get a message from one of the local south of the border types, I just ignore it. They want to ridiculously lowball or scam you, and they're usually assholes about it. If I do end up making a deal with someone who can't do the english so well, I will set up a meeting at the convenience store down the street, and it's usually on a cheap item, since none of them have the cash for anything else.

I do buy stuff all the time too.....but I'm courteous. I show up. I don't insult people. I carry, and I pay cash.

Craigslist is just dead here, and I despise Offerup. I wish there was a no BS way that was universally accepted. Craigslist used to be pretty good until FBMP came along and took all its traffic away.

It blows my mind that people even use Fb marketplace. That shit has the worst ui and the most worthless searching. The filters barely work and just randomly disappear for no reason. Half the shit on there is listed for $1 or free instead of people putting an actual price. There's rarely any real info in ads. Facebook also doesn't remove ads and leaves them up for months or even years if people don't take them down on there own.

The car section, at least here, is even worse than Clist with fake ads or bullshit used car lots completely filling the site with ads.

And as a seller even if you try to take it down, sometimes Facebook doesn't actually take it down (as an example, if you mark something as sold it should be gone not still showing up but marked as sold).

Forgot that they do that as well.

I used it for the first time in like a year today because Clist has next to nothing for what I was looking for. Was a complete waste of time looking on Facebook. Everything is either an old ad, a bunch of bullshit, or on the other side of the country even though I have a 10 mile filter on.

They all work sort of. Around here though Offer Up is really lame. Ive seen one thing of interest on there. I still like CL the best. FB you have to live on there to get a deal. A truck I liked and had tried to buy a few years ago showed up on FB. I messaged when the ad was 30 minutes old and she had already had two offers and so forth. The seller kinaa got a big head. Then when I checked in later she was getting the run around. FB is great for eyes and it does work but it is messy. It to me is sort of symbolic of the world we live in. Messy, noisy, alot of stuff you'd rather not deal with but ultimately you can get what you want. And sometimes it is the only place to look for certain things.

I hate searching on FB. Really difficult to find what you want in the area you want it in.

^ this is the good and bad thing about fb. Lots of traffic but also lots of trash. You show up with cash and people are willing to accept less just to make the 'is this still available' go away.
