What's new

Don't we have a "bitch about idiots on CL or Marketplace" thread?

1) Pics of MILF? C'mon, man!

2) I also thought this was an elaborate scam, right up until you picked them up. "I loaded up the C10, and never heard from them again.."

I snapped a photo before I left of her/truck and sent it to her. I edited it to share here but think I will pass! Too nice of people. I believe joining the military fast tracks your citizenship? Believe that's why the husband was in the military. He was wanting this truck because of the 250 6 cylinder. Evidently GM kept selling this engine in Brazil for quite awhile. Last production year in US was 84'.

Buddy of mine who had never owned a truck decided he wanted to buy an old square body and asked me if I would ride along to look at one he found on CL. I said sure. He gets in my car and ask's why do I have my .45 tucked between the seat. "uh because I never leave home without it." We meet these three shirtless guys in a parking lot and proceed to follow them to the truck out in the middle of Nowhere, GA as they chuck beer bottles at signs along the way. I am making mental notes of the turns in case we need to make a fast getaway. We end up in the middle of a field with a couple meth trailers and proceed to look over the pile of shit square body. Guy goes "Man it'll climb that hill over there you wanna see?" No we are good, but thanks for the offer. People start streaming out of the trailers to come watch us look at this truck. No less than 20 people begin to tell us how "that truck'll climb that hill!!!" Afterwards on the ride home my buddy goes "man thank god you had a gun!"

Then you have sellers like this dumbass. I kinda want to meet up and have him show me what channels it receives...

Isn't that area full of Portuguese speaking Latinx from South America?
I think so, yea. I haven't been in that area in like fifteen years. Probably didn't help that he was messaging me as I was watching Man on Fire either.

I've been trying to buy a truck for the last few weeks. I've been searching craigslist, autotrader, and Marketplace. I've found a pattern of strange listings on marketplace but I can't figure out the scam.

The listings are always the same:

-Mexican dude
-Description is in Spanish
-Always have similar descriptions (or certain key words like Navigation, clean title, good 4x4).
-Truck price a few thousand under market value
-Lots of good clear pictures (always taken in a nice neighborhood)

I've reached out to 10+ similar listings and 1 of 2 things happen.

They never reply.

or

They reply (confirming the truck is available) but as soon as I say I can meet local they reply back "sold".

So what the hell is the play here?:confused::confused:

My first guess would be them fishing for your name, picture and a unsecured friends list to make a fake account and "re-friend" all your friends.

What does that gain them?

What does that gain them?
Usually sending out scam links (ie: "did you see this video of you doing something embarrassing" or something else to get you to "click on a link from a trusted friend") that take them to a site that tries to hack their browser (from what I have seen).
I see "Facebook friends" posting "don't accept friend requests from me" 5-7 times a month.

What does that gain them?
Messaging access where they send spam, phishing links, etc.

It's become really common with women. They'll setup a new profile with stolen profile pics, similar username, etc then heavily advertise fake profiles for stuff like Onlyfans.

I ask for the video
I want to see it:grinpimp:

you don't carry a gun?
I thought that was CL basic rules of engagement

shitty english = block. guaranteed to try and jew you down and you'll waste your own time dealing with him
Like when they tell you they are driving three hours then do to do an insult low ball move

I always snap back 'no', enjoy your drive  {end conversation walks inside)

ya, I'm more wanting that crap out of my shop,

cause a 'set of three' sounds like a easy sell  that is what I will be looking at in the end

Sold a set of Lexus IS300 wheels in 2011-ish. Think I had them listed for $300

Guy messages me that he only needs one and wants to know how much.

$300.

But I only need one

You buy one get 3 free.

Dude started getting pissy real quick.

Eventually sold them to another sketchy GI who had been emailing from two different addresses. After the transaction, he emails me from the address he did not use to make arrangements complaining the wheels were bent and wanted money back.

“I never sold any wheels to anyone with this email address…. “

So I just sold a truck. Tried CL, it was quiet a couple of low-balls, one or two from out of area wanted me to hold etc. I didn't want to, but put on FB and did not do the group thing as they can be pretty brutal. I put it on there and after literally 25 "is this available" questions, a bunch of low-balls etc. it sold. I am very clear and detailed when I sell something.

It was patience trying, but it sold within 2-3 days. Full-price and minimal drama once I found the right guy.

They both work, and for different things one may work better than the other.

Didn't have them to my house and it worked fine.

Some good news.

All my messages stopped on the bike I'm selling. Still a bit early for bikes, but was hoping I'd have something. I'll wait it out another couple weeks then drop it by a hundred bucks. meh

Me? Never leave home without it. Him? He was always a different cat... However, now that he is older and married with kids, his conservative side is coming out.

Seen an old ford on MP awhile back that was non running at a decent price. I asked if he'd consider parting it out as I was looking for the bed. He replied sure, same price for the bed.

I replied back, well played my good man. Well played.

I messaged a guy when I needed a back gate for a WK. Told me $200 for the gate, when I got there he decided for $250 he would throw in the whole jeep and deliver it.

That's how I ended up with a spare WK in my yard.

A couple years ago I had an '06 (I think) dodge 2500 4x4, no engine or trans that I was parting out as a favor to a friend. Goddamn the retarded messages I got from people. A guy shows up to buy a door for $50, asks how much for the stock roller wheels and tires on it, I said how bout another 50, so 100 for door and wheels/tires. He thinks for a minute and offers me $150 for the whole truck and everything, saying he'd tow it away and I wouldn't have to deal with people anymore. It only took a couple seconds for it to click in my head what a good deal that was for me, so I let him have it. He must have known the struggle of trying to part out a dodge of that make/era

Parting out sucks in general unless you make a business of it and have storage and several donors.

I tried parting out that WK and sold a few things but would get message about the fuse harness. Tell them $50 for the harness pulled. "No I just want the connectors, can you cut those off for $5?

"Can I get the bumper for $25 including shipping?"

"Can you send me the airbag USPS?"

Don't go on Craigslist much anymore but got fucked around on a deal tonight. Set up a time to go check out a couple ATCs that I found via a poorly written ad with shitty pictures. Spent half the evening last night setting this deal up/getting better pics etc... then dude sends me an e-mail today "Oh my friend said he wants them so they're no longer for sale".

I am sorry about that. It seems like about 50% of the people I deal with are actually prepared to do business.
