Carnage share thread

my oil is the same i believe too. i actually just leave it in drive. and engage the magnum and low on the 205 so that 5.33 in tcase. and its crazy low for an auto i feel like. need to change up my gear selection

Going to try jana76 stuff? Good thing you went 5.13 and not 5.38s
first thing i am gonna try is really really try changing my driving style. i just freaking love low low and nailing the throttle.... sounds so damn awesome.....
so i am trying to stay in low and do that first. .
if i am going through all the trouble to do a jana, i would rather do a 05SD axle and get more strength by using the correct side of the gear. as much of a pain in the ass it is to build another front axle. 14 bolt front is tossed out because i am pass drop and in theory i could use a ford 205 easy enough but where do i stop...

I don't think it's too much more work than installing a r&p, a little more cost obviously.

Bebop runs a pass drop 14b, it's not a big issue if you go wider on wms

Anything is possible. But my link mounts are welded to the cast of the pumpkin.
Not everyone is confident in that solution.

well my dana 60 front gave up last weekend, low pinion... i think i will need to adjust my driving style. i think the 5.3 total reduction in tcase and full throttle launching with the tired LS is hard on shit. this is my front drive shaft and ring&pinion.... front shaft is just twisted... yikes... we think the ring gear let go first....but hard to telll...

Is that a Grizzly locker? Any problems with it after the break? I'd assume it's still GTG.

Not really. Had he gone 5.38 he could use Currie hp70 gears and upgrade to a 35 spline pinion instead of the 29 spline stuff the dana 60/70 uses.

Pinion shaft didn’t fail so probably it won’t matter anyway. Funny that every one in the 9 inch gear thread seems to think anything besides a 35 spline pinion shaft is garbage though.

It's a low pinion axle :homer:

The shaft broke and still ripped the splines out of the diff?

That a 40 spline? Those spools get real thin there.
I saw a recent pic posted showing a 3.250 case next to a 3.8xx case using 40 spline axles in a spool and it showed the difference in material where the bearing goes. 40 spline in a 3.250 case leaves very little material. I'll assume JR4X is running the larger bearing case which makes that break even more impressive.

Derail question, how big of an issue would this be on an aggressive trail rig? Anyone ever have issues with the 40 spline shafts/carrier bearings when using the 3.250 case with a spool?

Would it be better to go with really good 35 spline axles to keep a larger bearing area. Or 40 spline and no worries about the thin bearing set area?

well most trail rigs dont get yardsaled at 60 mph, so theres that.

Ok i can see that spool picture much better with some context.
