What's new

California how bad does it suck ?

How many waves are you catching in an hour? Last time I surfed it was crowded and everyone is super angry
I (and 2BB) don’t surf, but know how to well enough to do it. We’d be doing it for the novelty, I’m fine with catching 1 wave.

I’ve worked with plenty of people over the years that surfed before work or on long lunch breaks. I’m sure it’s doable.

Angry locals is a thing, but on my experience it’s less common at the beginner breaks in the winter.

It's why you are a quality **** who deserves to pay double for fuel and have gas weedeaters illegal :flipoff2:

get your head out of your ass. i just filled up for 4.61 and have multiple gashog trimmers

you'll drink them texas dustnados and like it :flipoff2:

Just wait until Newsome is our next president and the most popular president ever… He’s gonna win your state.
Not if Inslee has anything to say about it... he’s gonna fix all the climate lol

It remains a topic because the only reason it sucks is political.

If the people weren't such ****s, it'd be a decent place again.

Oh well, fast food is unhealthy anyways. Might as well price restaurants out of business

We used to have quarterly meetings for 'working across silos' and the lady that moderated the conversations used to tell us that she was the person who spearheaded the first rules and regs about reducing smoking. She said she was responsible for getting smoking in buildings etc and ultimately the no smoking in restaurants and bars put in place.

It was interesting to hear her perspective on the data about the impact of smoking on people and how she saw the impact and how the strategies she used had the impact that they had.

This has nothing to do with what I think about smoking, but it was fascinating that the things she put in motion changed a ton of culture throughout the US. Real change. (again, not saying the change is good, just that she had a strategy and she had impact)

your comment about fast food made me think about her. In a way, we know we have a problem with obesity... maybe the insane cost of fast food (due to salaries and greed) will cause people to have it less and grow thinner!

I generally don't dig people interfering or fencing me in... but, I remember the skies in southern california in my youth and how awful it was... and then it got a lot better.

of course, I remember after the 89 earthquake pat robertson and jerrry falwell saying that God was angry with California for all the gay people etc... and this spring, so much flooding and tornadoes all over the middle of the country... I kind of doubt that the ministers would be saying God was mad at Mississippi or Texas...

This is the only place (this forum) where i read about California sucking or whatever... it isn't my experience (and I guess California grew this past year, new data)

Whatever works for folks!

Exactly, some self righteous person really knows best for everybody, if we just submit to their control, we will all be better off!

That's why California is fucked by the counts of its inhabitants.

That's why it's finally become so unbearable that the loss of people is undeniable.

Oh good they'll manipulate the numbers and call it growth! Yay for transient and illegal populations.

California sucks because it doesn't need to suck. It shouldn't suck. We don't want it to suck, but the fucking people can't not suck.

So we might as well tell you that you suck :flipoff2:

Oh sorry, 90% higher price, not quite double.

I don't have tornados or floods here :flipoff2:
I'll bite.

Let's talk about Gatesville, Texas and what makes it so much better. I was stationed at Fort Hood as a young infantryman and quite honestly did not like it there, but I want to know what's so attractive. Do you have public land near by that you can wheel on or perhaps go shoot on? I couldn't find any. I had to pay to go to ranges linear public style ranges, no national forest I could go blast on without other goons or a range marshal. Camping was largely RV park style, nothing boondocking/public land free range that I am used to. However at that time I wasn't as knowledgeable with how to find spots. Maybe there is stuff I overlooked. I do remember getting bit by chiggers so bad I had fucking chigger bites in my god damn pee hole though. :lmao: Thankfully we don't have those in CA. Anyways.

I just checked real estate and must be missing something.
Here is a nice modest 1970's 3 bedroom on 1/3 acre for $300k.

Equiv in CA in a rural area would be approx $400. Here is a "nicer" 1980 house with 0.42 acre in a similar setting in CA for that price.

I can pretty much assure you in Valley Springs, Ca you aren't going to see what the news shows you of CA problems. ie homeless, robberies, etc. It's very much a rural republican town.

Wild that you didn't address what I'm referencing and how you've missed the significant points brought up.

$5.29-5.79 price range for gas this morning in valley springs

$3.09-3.12 in Gatesville...alright, 80% higher fuel costs. You're right, not 100% or even 90% higher

Shooting? Sure, I've got to travel a couple hours to get to federal land I can go shoot on. Crazy enough, I don't need to wonder if the gun I bought a year or two ago is still legal today. Or the magazines thr gun came with.

Granted, I'm certain you are like all the other folks who just ignore the laws in California. The point is the laws exist there. I've got multiple clean and well managed affordable ranges 5 minutes from me. No need to load up and head to the forest, nobody crying I'm leaving a mess just for driving by.

As for offroading, same thing, there is travel involved. You know what there is not? A centralized state effort to remove every damned vehicle off the road via rolling and enhanced restrictions. Hey, your truck runs better and cleaner with dual exhaust instead of single? As long as the feds don't care, the state doesn't care. Have at it. CARB doesn't run shit here, we can have a carb on a street driven rig :flipoff2:

I can take a week and go run the Rubicon, I don't need to fight the state so hard the rest of the year.

Sure, there's bugs here. That is the tradeoff. Pick what side of the state for what bugs you want to deal with. Regardless, there is anywhere from 50-100% less state political bullshit, depending on the particular thing you are trying to do. :flipoff2:

But hey, that's the thing. Anywhere not California doesn't even have to be "better" people in California have it in their head that anywhere else it's impossible to enjoy life.

California is the only place as long as you are rich enough. If you aren't rich enough, you just aren't working enough, or in the right sector, or haven't inherited enough money, or haven't take p.diddy dick, or whatever it is.

The point is, every other state [Hawaii and New England don't count, because Richmond &North just want to be old england] you don't have to qualify the select few who can live decent.

Anybody can live decent. The poor can make it through:flipoff2: the rest of the middle class can exist. It's wild :rasta:

CA could have those things as well, except it's all political.

You lie, shut the fawk up

You're crazy, now be quiet.
I lie? Speed limit is 75 on the 2 lane highway to one in the chamber, the furthest on this list. None of that 55mph CA fuel economy limit nonsense :flipoff2:

I'm crazy? Every thread on here about California has somebody say "it isn't bad, you've just got to be "of means" "well off" "high end" "work more" etc

Where are all the threads about south Carolina that say "you can live there and be happy, as long as you are rich"

Don't need to say that, anybody can live there and be happy :flipoff2: the state isn't coming for your car or pushing you into your 15 minute city

settle down. i'm fancying my eyes on this here caviar and champagne early brunch that my butler has informed me, was just now flown in on the redeye from Sicily :flipoff2:
All while getting it served up from a 23 year old nurse with a tight ass who would turn her nose at the idea of sweet tea.

I've heard it all before :flipoff2:

lets not do the whole 'who has the most gun ranges' thing....

I think the key that makes gatesville better is the absolute availability of great chicken fried steak. I KNOW you have that in greater measure, BBQ too. and decent little bars with good country music. So, I'm with you, we suck, you rule. Now, I need a cup of coffee, we had a nice rain yesterday and I have a full day of doing chores ahead... before going to a dance recital for my niece... no chicken fried steak this morning...

Hold on to your bbq chkn fried steak for a moment

California has been hovering between the 8th / 9th spot of world economies for the last few (several?) years. They are as of now, 5th :grinpimp: ...surpassing the United Kingdom and headed to take 4th place soon if trends continue (so sayeth le googles).

We can buy texas and give the shittier parts to mehico, ahem :grinpimp::flipoff2:

texas is like a girl with really big tits and a tiny ass... way more fun once in awhile than marrying.

I also find the texas uber alles stuff kind of quaint and innocent, I'd hate to mess that up too.

The states all being a little bit different is the way it should be. Some states will want to cuzzin fuck and keep the baby and other states will want to rip out a fetus if it isn't gonna be a capricorn.

We are born to be different, we all gravitate to the places that we like or give us opportunity.

Shoot, when I lived in Kentucky, they did not EVER compare themselves to even other states. Some states say they are the best in the world, some states tout they are the best in the USA... in Kentucky, people would say, 'that is finest maple walnut pancakes in the state of kentucky.' I loved that!

statistically, we are surrounded by dipshits. in many cases, we (I) are (am) the dipshit. I'm working on something mildly pathetic right now, taking a break from completing the project (and considering it kind of sucky) but, getting it done... today, like many days, I'm the dipshit.

Okay, back to going to fast and not doing it right!
'
Have fun, hope your state wins! #5 economy in the world and it is a pain in the ass to get to big sur right now... the numbers LIE!

Where is California going to borrow the money from to make this purchase? Might be the 8th, or whatever economy in the world, but its being run into the ground with debt and taxes. The state debt is going to hit 100 billion soon, Texas is in the black. That's the problem with liberals, they always fuck up a good thing. Everything woke turns to shit.

The American taxpayer, you're familiar with " Too big to fail" right?

Then those sucky people move to Colorado, Utah, and TEXAS :flipoff2:

That does suck :flipoff2:

California is slowly but surely losing its tax base. People and corporations that pay taxes are leaving. Those who don't pay taxes, and are a drain on society, are staying.

When I spend time in another state it doesn't take long to realize how screwed up California is. It feels constricting when I go back.

Where I'm finally building the house in Mohave County, Arizona, goods are 25-30% less. Services are at least 40% less. Construction costs are 75% less.

I build spec houses in Arizona with a contractor buddy. My tax guy did a comparison between what I would be paying in California vs Arizona for the gains. It was almost four times as much. If that doesn't suck....

What’s the difference in finished value of the home? Are you paying 25% but only profiting 25%?

Also out of curiosity, what’s the property tax in Arizona like? Every time there’s one of these shit fest I’m surprised at how little I pay in California based on the value of my house. Texas houses might be cheaper but a lot of times the property taxes sound like they’re about the same or more.
