What's new

Back to the future for Waterhead

So a super car show today. This year they gave me top billing. (Parking me with the big boys) Again, I was the only Delorean.

It was fun and I also got to look at some waterfront property.

I notice they made you park away from the rest of them.....lol

That said, I would love to have your car.

They might know how I drive. Lol…..actually the weather was threatening and I believe a lot of cars didn’t show up.

During the event, a tent on the upper level almost blew over rail and would have landed on the Lambo’s. You should have seen every jump to grab it. (They pulled it down without touching a car)

Its really funny how people are about the Delorean. Like I would be talking to guys that owned a Lamborghini and the blue BMW and other guys would cut in and say “are you the guy with the Delorean”. I was very surprised how many kids knew what the car was. One lady said they had a Back to the future marathon recently, so that might be the reason.

After the show, my wife and I went to Mcguires for steaks. We were lucky and got a parking spot right in front. The place was packed and had a 45 min wait. Everybody mobbed the car. The manager told me to bring the car there anytime. I said “does it allow me to cut the line”? He said “No, but I can get you a drink”.

Anyone with enough money can go out and buy most of the cars at that show same day. The Delorean is rare and unique, no surprise that people are drawn to it. Any idea how many are still out there with no paint?

”They” say 3000 are still around. I think most are not painted. The reason most get painted is an accident. (Tough to straighten stainless without a trace. If I was going color, I would go wrap. That blue BMW in the pics is a wrap. There was a Lamborghini Hericon with a matte black wrap that was way cool. The guy told me it has shiny black paint underneath.

That does look nice and clean. It looks like it fits better than stock. I’ve seen the LS swapped ones and they are tight. I like things to be easy to work on. If my motor goes bad, I’ll be looking in to that.

Do you know if he has a build thread?

I don't have any idea. He lives somewhere around Raleigh Durham though. If I see him again at another meet, I'll try to remember to ask if he has it documented anywhere.

Someone posted a link to this outfit in another thread.

I decided to try one of their products, the C4 Permanent Trim restorer. I bought it for my louvers. Mine have a noticeable fading or graying.

It looks worse than in the picture. I ordered the smallest bottle of the stuff and it is small. (15ml) It comes with some little pads. I cleaned the louvers with ”lectra clean“before that pic was takin. I used almost whole bottle to coat the louvers. There is not enough left to do anything. It goes on easy and looks like armor all at first. After a bit, you buff it off with a micro fiber cloth. I dont know if you can see much difference in the pic, but it looks great.

When I buffed it off, it was kind of greasy, but it doesn’t have any of that feel now. I have to say right up front that I think this stuff is ”snake oil“, but, So far it looks fantastic. ItÂ’s suppose to restore the trim for two years. If it looks this good in two months, I will be sold. This is my test for this company. If this turns out good, I will buy some more of there stuff. I will report back after a few months on this thread.

They had a back to the future prop car at Universal Studios yesterday and I could not believe how hard that car was getting mobbed by everyone, especially the foreigners. It was a cool thing to see for sure.

Wifey watches the vintage price is right channel, episode the other day a Delorean rolls out and that crowd went crazy, even then.

Sweet car

This was our first drive in my wife’s new Vette. Our friends from Canada was following in the D. My wife was disappointed when people were ignoring her because they were trying to see the D. Lol.

Another car show. I like this one because it’s mainly for high dollar cars, but they beg me to come and give me two spaces when some Lambos only get one.

To me this was the best of show.

Didn’t realize they had scissor doors.

IMG_1439.jpeg

The door is actually the side of the car, so when you open it you don’t swing your legs out as far.

The guy that owns it (and the Astin Martin and Ferrari next to it) told me he has a 120 cars. He also owns a gun shop. He told me to come to the gun shop. I think he’s interested in the Delorean. He told me he was all set to buy one and the deal fell through. Wait till he sees the HEMTT. Lol

Any body want a floating Lamborghini?

IMG_1438.jpeg

There were two Cyber trucks there. First I’ve seen of them in the flesh.

IMG_1436.jpeg

Doesn’t look as bad in person, but I could do tweaks here and there and make it look so much better. The interior and the whole truck is bigger in person.

Lambos for kids.

The show was canceled the day before and moved to Sunday for weather. I had to drive through a foot of mud water on my dirt road to leave the house. I went straight to the car wash.

IMG_1441.jpeg

They also moved the time from 4/7 to 12noon/3. It was hot. I spent an hour and a half in the hotel bar. Wasn’t too bad.

Took a long trip (600 miles) for business. The car drove great for 600 miles and I get off the interstate and I have no clutch. It will not shift into first to save my life. Just grinds. For some reason, I can get it into second and slip the clutch to get going. If I time my shifts perfect, I can go up through the gears. When I got there, my client let me put the car in an air conditioned hanger. The next night, I bled the hydraulic clutch and all was good. A couple days later I drove home. Drove great till the last 10 miles. Same problem. To be fair, I wouldn’t even know there was a problem for 200 miles because I stay in overdrive and never use the clutch.

The resivour never went down. The fluid that came out during bleeding was really grungy. I’m thinking of bleeding it till I get clean fluid out. In any case, why is it impossible to get in first gear, but I can get second? I asked this question on the Delorean forum. Nobody has an answer.

Is 1st synchro'd in those?
And 40 year old seals in the MC/SC could be deteriorated and not sealing well, but not bad enough to leak externally...
Spitballin' tho...

One of the guys on the Delorean forum said the only gear not syncroed is reverse. Can the synchro ware out? Both my master and slave are less than 5 years old.

Yea syncros wear out. Especially first since you're shifting into that gear while stopped so it has to slow down the gears the most while stopped. Try slipping it into second and then into first so you're using 2nds syncros to stop the spinning gears.

I don’t completely understand synchros. I had a Jaguar once that didn’t have synchro on first. You couldn’t down shift into it, but it went in fine from a stop. I thought the only reason you need synchros is when the car is moving.

I intend tI fix the clutch, but your saying if it were to happen again, I could shift into second and then quickly shift into first?

We’ve got some stuff around that’s just the move. My brothers 6 speed manual Cummins, if you want to go to first gear you put it in second first then it glides on into first. My little Bronco is the same way except it doesn’t like to go into first or second right off the bat. I put it in third first then it will glide into reverse first or second.

For future reference

When dealing with a bad clutch one option is to shit the car off, put it in first, then start the car in gear.

Fix the clutch obviously it that truck got me home more than once
When the pilot bearing is going bad and gripping the input shaft that's the easiest way to diagnose it. Ran into that a bunch of times over the years.

Syncros basically synchronize the gear speed between shifts by acting as sort of a brake between the sides of gears so it's not hardened steel on hardened steel. Brass synchros are softer and eventually wear.

In a semi truck there are no synchros at all. You have a clutch brake so when shifting from neutral you put the clutch on the floor to activate the brake so the trans stops spinning. If you use the clutch otherwise you only put it down half way or so, any farther and you'll kill the clutch brake
Easy to spot a dipshits driver if you hear gears grinding when they go to leave an intersection it's because the clutch brake is burned up.
