Back to the future for Waterhead

So I've got some issues with the car. I've got some questions out on the Delorean forum, but most of those guys are not mechanics. Two main issues.

The engine does not want to rev up. It will start and idle fine. I drive it some, but the warmer it gets, the less it will rev. For example, it's idling and I slowly push the pedal. The rpms will go up till about 2000 and then start going back down. Last night I left it idle for ten minutes after a couple laps around the yard. (10 acres) The catholic converter got red hot. I know they are suppose to run hot, but at idle? I'm thinking it might be plugged.

The second issue is not a big issue, but the water temp doesn't seem to go up. After driving it around the yard a couple times and letting it sit idling for ten minutes, no hot water got to the rad. (The rad is up front) I could see a bad thermostat, but the gauge never got above 130. (It was 70 degrees out)

Wouldnt a plugged converter cause the engine to get hotter?

oh, sorry, wife's tatas won't fit in these pictures.

maybe call a priest for an exorcism?

The pipes go down the center and are in good shape. Haven't bled the system. It has a rad cap on a stainless tank in the rear. There is no overflow tank. I topped it off and a little got past the cap while running. Is that kind of tank supposed to be full or a little room for expansion?

The guage is not dead, it starts at about 90 and goes to about 130. I pointed a lazor temp at some of the hoses and they read around 150. Of course, if the stat doesn't open, they would just get some radiant heat. (Mainly from the converter)

cut the cathololic corn-verter outta there and get you a jewish corn-verter to weld in there

which is to say just a section of pipe
them converters are real good money so don't go smashing it outta there

I finally got the car warmed up and the rad got hot and turned the fans on. It all works, it's just a cool running car. I checked the cat/muffler and they are clear. All my issues are with the fuel injection now. Found some problems, but I got more.

Just gotta run it on some stronger stuff :grinpimp:

unless you cut them out, how did you check the CAT and the muffler?

You can see right through the cat. I blew som compressed air though the muffler. Nothing loose and came out the pipes unrestricted. Then I ran the car with out the muffler to see if anything changed. (Didn't make any difference except noise)

The main problem was the fuel distributor plunger was stuck. This caused the fuel to spray constantly at one setting. If you open the throttle too much, it would lean out. If you let it idle, the extra fuel would burn in the cat. (Or foul out)

After I got that plunger freed up, the mixture was too lean. I adjusted that an unthinkable amount of two full turns. Everything seemed to work good except for slight hesitation when flooring it from idle. I cracked one of the 40 year old polymer fuel lines screwing with it. The fuel distributor is placed handy right over the electrical distributor. I had a small fire. They are known to be a failure item that will burn the car to the ground. So now I'm waiting for a braided stainless kit to replace all the lines.

I use to joke about Kabota dealers think they are Mercedes dealers when it comes to parts prices. Well, Delorean venders think Mercedes dealers are Kia dealers.

I assume that you have seen the various crossover lists to the parts shared with Volvo who used the same PRV engine and called it the B28?

Theres your problem. You got a priest stuck up under your car. Is it attracting altar boys as you go? :lmao:

He's going to be wishing he can get his delorean purchase annulled.

This turd is carb'd I assume- vapor lock? weak fuel pressure (put a gauge in there and check). Second issue sounds like an air pocket, need more bleeding/burping especially if some remote mount rad setup.

Not carb. It has mechanical fuel injection. Has a distributor just like a an electrical one, but for fuel. Hoses, not hardliners to the cylinders.

Gotcha. Should still verify pressure is in spec, sounds like a fuel delivery issue of some sort. Only experience I've had on a mechanical FI was on a buddies old Audi turbo, that left us stranded and had to walk home- similar issue the fuel delivery/distribution thing, some seal shit the bed.

Could have been the same injection. They used it in everything over in Europe. They actually used two of the ones I have in a Lamborghini Contach (V12)

Update on this. I've been banging my head on this car since I got it. Today I took it for a good run for the first time. I can honestly say it runs great now. I was having problems getting it to rev up and bogging out anything less than 3000 rpms. Today I let it drop to 1500 in overdrive and hit the gas. It took off. Once it got past 2500, it felt like it got 1.2 gigawatts boost.

I've put about $3500 in the car now. (Besides the purchase price) Ill probably put another grand in it. (Got my eye on a few things. I'm real happy right about now. It slowed my progress on the HEMTT for a bit, but I'll be back at it.

So one of the most important mods to the car. Of course I'm talking about Cup holders. I whipped this up on the brake. Couple hole saws later.

And you guys thought linked suspension and coilovers were for four wheel drives. (Also some vented discs) Can't wait to install this stuff.

I installed a new exhaust with headers. Once I got the headers on, I noticed that they didn't point at anything important. So might as well start it before installing the rest of the system.

Not sure if I can post this video. I'll give it a shot.

Thanks guys,

When I first was looking into buying one of these, I posted on the old forum asking for personal experince. Almost everyone said it is slow, can't get out of its own way. Lol. Now that I have drivin it abit, I will put it this way. I know every modern mustang, charger, challenger will blow the doors off this, but it's not as bad as all that. I would call the car "peppy". It is certainly good in the corners and shifting gears always feels sporty. Of course, nothing, absolutely nothing prepared me for the notoriety of this thing. I'm not sure about picking up chicks because I have the love of my life, but it is the most attention getting thing next to boobs.

Since everybody wants pics, my new third brake lights. I made these extremely low profile so as not to be seen. (Except when lit)
