What's new

'56 willys truck

The little shit has to be done just like the big stuff. Taking advantage of waiting time to knock out the little stuff is so important.

I'm slowly learning that.:flipoff2:

Well yesterday I found out my engine/tranny builder took his life, so now I have no idea what I will get back. I could be out money and parts that probably total around $8k and maybe more. Gonna be not so happy for a week or two until they can wrap their heads around how to take care of his business. I'm going to start prepping myself by grabbing my ankles.:shocked:

Sorry to hear about your engine builder, that's a bad situation. Hopefully everything will work out as it should.

Good luck...

I can only cross the fingers and toes and see what shakes out. Word is he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer recently, so thus he made a decision. Sorry for his kids and immediate family for having to deal with this.

Damn, that some shitty news.

Was he a close friend or just the engine builder you went to? If it's the ladder, I'd be making sure I was in the front of the line getting my shit back.

Unfortunately, it's the latter one. I'm at their mercy now and since I'm not a close friend, who will get 1st dibs on what's in there? I did send his daughter a quick list of some of the stuff that was in there last week and I just sent his daughter an updated list of most if not all the stuff he has and how much I'd given him for what he was to do and asked her to let me know when we could meet at the storage unit. So now we shall see what happens.

On a side note I've determined I have nice ankles.:shaking::shaking:

That really sucks bud. I can put you in contact with other builders and mechanics in the Omaha area if you need it. I have family that are into the car and truck scene there.

1Sinner --thanks, I may take you up on it, I'll let you know once I know if I'm getting anything back.

So on that note, I was perusing FB Marketplace and found his son selling some of his dad's stuff, lucky none of it was mine!! So I messaged him, sent him my list and told him I had all the texts his dad and I had done over the last 9-10 months. He responded he'd look in the storage area to see if my stuff was there and he said he'd check his dad's phone for the texts, so that's encouraging. Now I'm waiting to see what he finds, but I expect that will be next week since the funeral is this Saturday. One thing I did see was a performance torque convertor box sitting under the composite block and transmission( I was going to borrow them) that the kid was selling and I told him I thought it might be mine. Fingers crossed that I get most of my stuff back and a lot of the stuff he was to buy is there.

While I wait for my saga to make a move I've just been wiring up switches and relays. And even then I can't complete everything until the engine and tranny are in place, but at least a lot of the tedious wiring will be in a good position to complete when I have a solution to my motor and tranny.

Good move to keep pushing forward.

Well, yesterday we were chatting about meeting to pick up some of my stuff yesterday or today, so yesterday didn't happen, so hopefully today does. I sent him another message a few minutes ago. Yesterday he said he was going to look for "MORE OF MY STUFF", so it sounded like he had found some of it, but no explanation of what he'd found. I don't know whether to be somewhat happy or pissed off or what.

I decided to start the backup camera/mirror install. So, my truck has the split windshield which consists of a metal bar outside with screw holes in it which allows you to attach the inside metal bar which holds the mirror and clamps against the gasket to help support the windshield glass. So, one of the screws had broken off when I removed it a 100 years ago, so I drilled it out, tapped it and cleaned up the other threads and stuck a couple of studs in the outer piece, so that I could align the inner piece without having to blindly find the hole with a screw. Just put a nut on it, so that I could work on the mirror housing(that has no mirror). The new backup camera/mirror just straps around the mirror, so the mirror being gone is no biggie. Well I strapped it on there and I didn't like the placement of it, so out comes the CAD(cardboard...) and I make a template of the mirror housing, trace it and make a metal mirror substiture that I can then bolt to the header bar of my roll cage, you know so that I can adjust left and right, ain't no up and down adjustment(yet). It's now painted and if I don't go & get my engine parts tonight or go to the son's soccer game I may get it installed and then work on the remainder of the wiring for it. That was Sunday's project that I started. Exciting stuff for sure:shaking::shaking:. But again as we've been saying knocking out the little crap is good.

Well it's not happening today. I'm not surprised as the kid is overwhelmed, but he said he hoped this week. The storage unit is a mess he says. He hasn't seen my block or transmission but has seen my oil pan and a box of parts.

Would the guy be willing to have you help him look for your stuff? Kinda sounds like he might welcome the help.

I have offered twice and he's not accepted yet, so there's not much more I can do. Maybe he accepts this weekend, but all I can do is wait for him to say he's ready. I'll hit him up on Friday if I don't hear from him before.

Good luck man. It's a rough spot to be in. I know you want your stuff, but I've also been on the other side of the coin. My dad died suddenly in a motorcycle accident and his estate dealings dropped into my lap overnight. It was overwhelming for quite a while.

Made some calls yesterday and this morning and found my block, crank, caps, rods and caps at a machine shop about an hour away. Only took 6 different calls. What's funny is the kid has been calling them the day before. I think the kid had a inkling that my block was there, but he never said anything and I get it as he wasn't sure. Anyway, I'm going down to pick it up tomorrow morning, unfortunately nothing has been done to it, but fortunately I don't have to pay to get it either.

So I text the kid to see if we can meet and he can't cuz he's meeting 3 other guys:shaking::shaking::mad3::mad3::mad3: and doesn't have time. He said they contacted him before me, so there's not much I can do, but I told him I wasn't enthused to hear this. I even offered to pick up some of the stuff at the machine shop for him, but he said he didn't have time to deal with it when I dropped it off. He did say he found my cam, so that's good, but I still have no meeting time established and I still don't know where it is, so my patience is starting to simmer. So I continue down the path of spinning, but at least I will have my block.

As much as you want to get everything now, which I understand, I would say have some patience. Angering the kid will get you nowhere fast.
It sounds like the kid is trying to do right, so have a  to relax.

Very true and I'm trying, but when he tells me can meet Monday or Tuesday and then those go by with nothing and then he says later in the week and that didn't happen and then he tells me he can't meet over the weekend cuz he's meeting other guys, that's why my patience is simmering. You can't tell me we are going to meet 3 different times and then change it:shaking::shaking:!! I'm still on good terms, I think, as I've not said anything bad, but last night he asked if I had pic of my tranny and I said no, but I told him it was a later 4l80e with the cooling ports front and rear and he came back and said is it dirty. I said well if it wasn't rebuilt like your dad said he was going to do then yea it still is probably dirty. That's all he said about it, so I'm not sure he saw my transmission or not. But I did say we have to meet next week and he agreed, so there's still hope I get my stuff and then there's going to be the money thing that maybe I get back with tools or parts, cuz I doubt there will be any money available.

I did get my block, crank and rods, so until I know what parts I'm hopefully getting back from the kid I'm in limbo about the machine work. I was going to bore it .060, but if there's no new pistons or other parts then I may rethink that and go to .030 bore or just hone it if it doesn't need a re-bore, but we shall see.

Today I started to build some stands to hold the truck up for full droop to redo my coil-spring weights, cuz I'm tired of jacking and blocking, jacking and blocking and jacking and blocking and so on. I'm sitting too high at ride height now and I'm not really sure how the calcs I did originally didn't work out, well I know why the rear may be sitting high, but the front shouldn't be and it is. Reason is 2 of my springs were 250lbs and not 225lbs and I did all the calcs off the 225lb spring rate which made my calcs wrong on either the front or rear(I don't recall which now), but still I have 225/225 on the front and it sat high with the old motor in it, so once I get the new motor and tranny in and all the crap bolted back on I'll re-do the spring calcs and see if I messed up or the online calculator isn't what I should've used and hopefully these new adjustable jack stands will make it easier and safer.

Sucks and I know you're frustrated. Try to be patient until you can no longer be patient. If you catch my drift.

I think my patience will run out after our next chat if we don't have a date set to meet next week. I know the kid is trying, but right now $6-7K out of pocket to his dad + all my parts that I supplied him with are burning the patience wick and every day that goes by the wick is burning:hot: quicker and quicker. Plus now it sure looks like his dad didn't do squat and pocketed the money. And I know he pocketed at least 5-6 others' money as that's how many blocks were down at the machine shop!! I know my alternatives may net me nothing, but right now I'm leaning on telling him I'll be filing a lien and getting a lawyer, but again that will be after our next conversation if we haven't set up a firm date to meet. I truly hope I don't have to go that route, although the other guys he met up told him that they were suing and they jumped in front of me, which means less and less possibilities of me recouping at least equal value of parts or tools or vehicle, cuz I'm pretty sure the money refund is a pipe dream.

What a shitty situation. And it sucks to hear that the old man may not have been completely on the up and up.

I'd just try to remember that the kid didn't cause this mess, but unfortunately it's all in his lap now and he has to deal with it.

Yea, I'm not blaming him for what his dad did or didn't do. So far communication has been good, it's just the meeting issue that's starting to irk me. Hopefully today we can set up a meeting for this week.

No word from the kid, so now the patience level is slowly depleting.

On another note to keep me from going too nuts I've been putting the M122 supercharger parts on finger tight to just make sure I have everything and to save me a bit of time when it actually goes on. I'm missing a gasket, so I ordered one, so I'm glad I started to mess with it. So here it is sitting on my BS motor (Boxer Series) since my LS isn't able to accept it yet.

Well, we are supposed to meet on Sunday at 2pm pending him texting me the location. We shall see how it pans out.

Thanks. He sent me a message to see if I could meet Saturday and I said yes, but I haven't heard back yet, so maybe it's Saturday or maybe it's Sunday.

Here’s a couple of pics of the new mirror location and the metal mirror bracket I made that I mentioned a few posts back.
