What's new

'56 willys truck

Yea, it should be fun. I had a twin turbo'd nitrous Cummins and that thing was rediculous for power, so it will be fun to see the difference, although I never did any real 4 wheeling with it, It was my daily driver and then sled pulls, dyno events and racing with it on the weekends. This one I'm building for crawling, but I do want to drive it also and to have instant power and torque should be a romp in the hay fun!! I'm still probably 4-6 weeks before I get everything to start to get it back into the truck and that sucks, cuz the weather could kill me and hunting season will be in November, so will it run this year or will it be next year?!!!

Holley holding firm on the Terminator X Max start to ship date of 10/08/21, but Summit has changed to 10/20/21, so I'm just in limbo to "it will be here when it's here". On the other stuff I'm still waiting for all of it to show up or become ready to pick up, so really nothing to report and my motivation to do any little work is gone at the moment. I'm really not surprised because I put a lot of time in it from March to Aug + throw in some side work and my will has diminished. I expect it will pick up when I get the tranny and motor, but I could be thwarted by weather and I'm not sure I want a new motor sitting in a truck over the winter without it being able to start, but hey that's a decision made when I actually get all the parts.

Supercharger adapters showed up on Thurs, so one down and motor, tranny, torque converter and wiring harness are stilll in the "will show up when they show up" bucket.

Hopefully you get your stuff soon. I've been stalled. Finally got some steel for the links so hopefully I'll be able to update soon.

Waiting is no fun, whether it's for the need of funds or parts are on backorder or whatever.

Well I went and bought the HOLLEY 550-917 harness off a guy on eBay and although it cost me $50 more than the one I have on order from Speedway, it was still cheaper than buying it from Holley, Jegs, Summit or Speedway right now and I'll have it next Monday or Tuesday. I'm tired of waiting on Speedway to get me some pertinent info on my order I made almost 3 1/2 months ago. I'm sure the thing is stuck on some ship waiting to get into port, but still Speedway has not contacted me about this order. If I don't initiate the conversation there's no communication. Yea it's posted on their website that it's backordered, but it's been that way since the day after they emailed me that I would have it July 19th or 20th. There's another guy who has 4 of them on eBay for even more $$$, so I know Holley has sent some out, because there's been none for a few weeks. Anyway if the Speedway one shows up(it won't) before the one from eBay gets here I'll send it back after I compare them or I'll try and sell it on eBay and see if I can get my $50 back. Bottom line I have a date that it's to be here, so now it's just the motor, tranny and torque converter that are still in the "waiting for" bucket. Don't ask me why those 3 things aren't bugging as much as the damn harness, but right now they are not.

Well I knew I shouldn't have posted anything, because now it says it will be here tomorrow the 16th. It's hung up in Nashville.

Shipping by any company is so unreliable anymore. It's more like wishful thinking it will arrive when they say it should.

No kidding, I should've known better. Dates are just thrown around with really no thought of today's shipping world, they are all working off the model of when things were great.

Harness arrived today and I cancelled the Speedway order. Now motor, tranny and torque converter are in the waiting bucket and some misc stuff that will have to wait until the motor is in so that I can figure out what I need to do.

Engine parts still in the maze of "waiting for delivery"--that's all I got for an update.

Only update I have is I'm expecting a call this week, but my gut tells me it won't happen.

Oh, there's not much that will be said besides you still have to wait. I briefly talked to the builder last week and he'd been in the hospital twice and then something about his house, so I just said get better and we will talk soon and he said he'd call me next week(this week), but I'm not holding my breath. I'll hit him up again after Christmas and see what's up. Again I had told him no rush due to winter, so it is what it is. But with that being said I'd like to hear a bit of progress has taken place.

I've learned over the years any planning requires a generous time frame and then patience to remember it never goes as planned. Good luck and looking forward to this project of yours moving forward:beer:

This week my plan is to try and get a real up to date answer of where things are. Again I can't do much with the weather being like it is, so it's not like I need it today, but it would be nice to know there's progress on the motor and transmission, so that come late FEB or early March I can have that stuff to get ready to shoving it in.

I'm to receive a call today with updated info. I asked him where we were with parts & progress and told him early to mid March is when I thought I'd like to have them in my hands.

Yea it is and I just spoke to him and March sounds like it's still in the plans, but it wouldn't surprise me if it slides to April.

Since our crazy weather was kind to me today by warming up to 65* and I had some free time I changed out the new, never used, front calipers for newer ones since the old new ones were stuck. That's the downside of working on your rig outside for coming up on 5 yrs. Not really anything exciting, but it was nice to get something knocked off the list.

I'm with you, it always feels good to take something, anything off the list. I am always working on my build in my free time, so depending on what it is I try to get something done. It's the main reason I jump from one part to the next.

UPDATE--still waiting--engine builder is moving his shop the next 4 days and sizing down his operation to just building motors vs building motors and stuffing them into vehicles for customers. So I'll check in with him in a couple of weeks to see how things are going, but now I'm thinking/hoping it will be April, which doesn't surprise me as I stated earlier.

Nothing real exciting, but to get something out of the garage I built a tire carrier and slapped my spare on it, cuz any room gained in the garage is a good move.

Now the weather is changing, got about 1" of snow last night. Last week it hit 80 and this week we will see a high of 51 on Tue and then we don't get over 35 with a low of -2 on Sat and maybe more snow on Thurs, so there won't be much happening this week, except maybe some more garage rearranging. Bat shit crazy weather.

Been tinkering with stereo and rock lights and night lights and semi-organized the rats nest in the garage, so nothing real exciting to report, but I may have my tranny next week.

Now my builder didn't get the new shop a couple of weeks ago, but he did find one this week, so the motor is still on hold, until he moves in and gets organized. But with that being said he will let me borrow his composite block and composite tranny to mock a few things up, so I need to get down to him to get those and then I can play with seeing what needs modified in the engine bay and try and get ahead of the curve for when I do get my motor.

Well the pics aren't in order, so the first pic is what I thought of after the 2nd and 3rd pic and the last is what I did. I had never closed in the bottom of of the rear bumper, cuz I thought I may french in some back up lights and I would need access to install and remove the lite, so pics 2 & 3 show the cut out in the bumper and with a lite installed. I stepped back and looked at it and thought about it and I didn't like it and then set the 12" lite up there to see what it would look like and pic 4 shows it installed.

I had to redo the safety loops twice, cuz the as you can see in pics 1 and 2 they are bolted on either side of the hitch. So I commenced to cuttin' them off & to weld them in and I decided to turn them 90*, so I cut and welded them in. Stepped back and thought why didn't the original owner do that? Oh because you can't get the hitch pin in with them turned 90*:homer::homer::shaking::shaking:. So I cut them off and welded them on either side of the hitch, but stickin' out towards the rear, which is like a more conventional set up.

Then I commenced to makin' a couple of brackets to bolt the 12" lite to and welded them on and welded back in the now defunct frenched in cut out and painted it all up and installed the 12" lite.

I need to remember to really look at things a bit closer when I come up with a plan when it comes to relocating things(safety loops).

I thought about cutting the frenched in hole bigger and welding in some side plates, but I decided I wasn't going to like that look, so the 12" lite won.

I may add a couple of lites to the rear fenders, but I may wait until I get the 12" lite and the rear rock lites wires up to see what it looks like at night before I make that decision.

Again nothing to exciting, but tinkering is good to get some things off the garage floor.
