What's new

2bbs 2021 bronco build

Your probably right but at some point I feel like stupid unessiasary wear should be taken into consideration. It is still a 4cyl with stock gears, 37s, and a dana 44. Oh and a 3500lb tow rating on 32s
Regardless, it will still tow a million times better when you cut the distance from axle to hitch ball in half. Don't be an idiot.

If you swap to the Ranger springs in the rear it effectively ups the tow capacity to 5000# according to the Ford tech guy I talked to.

Sounds like a typical "tech"

Suggesting swapping coil overs and 4 like for leafs like it's a bolt in deal.

I would absolutely get the shortest hitch possible. Travel trailers are the worst for sway. My in laws 6k lb travel trailer was way more scetchy behind the F150 that the 11k lb flat deck and 2500 dodge

In fact, I don't think I would even want to tow one with a bronco at all

Am I missing something?? The Bronco is coil sprung in the rear. The Ranger is leafs.
I honestly have no idea and am just repeating what he said.
Is there no version of a Ranger with coils?
I know they have conversion kits, just assumed the go fast Ranger came with coils.
2BB: Have you looked into a tune? A buddy up here is putting the Ford one on his 4 cylinder and is getting it dynoed to see what actual numbers are.
Mine just came in and I should hopefully get to install it this weekend, but I'm running the 2.7.

A tune is gonna go over real well when he puts 10k of "too cheap to pass up" BDL behind it and hammers down.

I have looked into the tunners a bit and the numbers seem to good to be true... like over 300 at the wheels from the jbwhatever company. Im interested to see what your friend comes up with.

Have you driven the 2.3? Whats your opinion compared to the 2.7?

I've driven both broncos, and we have a 2.3 with the 7speed manual. And have driven a tuned 2.3 ranger.

Stock the 2.3 has plenty of power for us, but we do have a 2 door Badlands, which gets the 4.7 gears in the axles with only 33's, so I'm sure that contributes to the pep. Used it to tow my new tractor home (2100 lbs) and it was impressively effortless.

Before tuning try just running premium fuel, on the 2.3 that alone takes you from 275 to 300hp. It's noticeable, but not enough to pay almost $900 for another claimed 10% bump IMHO. After driving the ranger, I found myself being a skeptic for the numbers they claimed.

I have only driven the 2.7 but easily pull him. Especially in hills, loaded with gear and/or in the snow.
We both are 10 speed auto 4 door convertibles.
I'm on 37's while he still has stock Goodyear Territories.

hitch situation: looks like if you moved the jack you could run a 6" drop hitch that tucks close to the bumper not problem. would just be annoying to connect potentially with the spare in the way, i assume the spare swings out with the gate tho temporarily to get you the vertical clearance you'd need?

Yes, yes, and yes.

If and when I get a dedicated travel trailer that the bronco tows, efforts will be made to do exactly what you are saying.
The trailer in the picture is actually for sale with the tractor so I dont plan on making any effort to modify things. The only other trailer I have that the bronco would even tow is a 4x8 dump run trailer. Having a hitch that will work with anything is why I grabbed this one.

Aa obvious as it was I hadnt even thought about swinging the tire out of the way :homer:
Kinda reminds me of the one time my motorhome broke down and I had to tow my flatbed home with the jeep. Couldn't swing anything so I ended up trying solving my problem by putting the hitch(with the biggest drop I could find at a nearby o'reilly's) on the ball and then trying real hard to slide it in to the receiver with the trailer attached. It finally got it but I was really questioning my life choices at that point:

I thought they were six cylinder, still they are getting some impressive power from them.

As far as the hitch length, once you get your trailer, you can see if it sways. You could always get a short hitch, remove the spare and try it. If you don’t feel it’s worth it, stay with the more convenient one.

Gun in the safe vs gun in the holster.

Cool saying!

Uh... take spare off, hook on trailer, put spare back on. ? Or am I missing something?

Can't get spare off/on because it's heavy AF and the trailer jack is in the way. I can put the spare on/off when I can just chuck it up there, but as soon as I have to try and cheat it around crap in the way, it ain't happening. I guess could have probably permanently pulled off the spare and strapped it to the trailer, but I didn't have another ratchet strap, and to be honest that would have been physically harder (cause the spare is fawking heavy, than trying to jimmy the hitch into the receiver.

I actually kind of hate my spare tire setup, but I can't think of a better way to do it- that's about as high as I would want to try to solo lift a 40" tire.

I think I woulda slid it under the trailer spare and used the one strap for both. I understand the heavy... but I can't imagine trying to back- fuck a receiver hitch was any easier.

badass... Does anyone know if the bronco and ranger steering racks are interchangeable?
I dont believe they are.

That 74weld rack apears to just be a billet housing using all of the ford factory internals. Still very cool that the development is being done and parts produced. Its crazy how far things have come in 20 years.

If that's a billet housing with cromo rack and pinion gears I don't see anything wrong with it using factory Ford parts where they still can to save the consumer some $$$. If it's just a billet housing with all stock internals then I agree that it's just overlander bling.

So there is nowhere to really mount any accessories in the bronco. Im not even sure if I can mount a brake controller under the dash in any sort of normal place without my legs hitting it.

Anyway I got a new Race radio with the help of @jeff555 and decided the exceptionally small center console was the place to mount it.

The console is so small I couldnt figure out a way to attach the mounting bracket and radio without removing the entire console every time.

After a little looking I decided to just bend up an easily removable drop in mounting plate that I could secure in with 2 easily accessible screws.

the pictures pretty well tell the story. Im waiting on the paint to dry for final assembly tommorow

On the back side im going to install the clip for the microphone and then just toss the external speaker in the void. The consol has a built in pass through notch when closed so when im using it I can just set the speaker in a cup holder or something.

I take it that radio does not have a detachable/ remote face? Most of the legit HAM style radios do now. You could then stash the bulk literally anywhere and put the face/ controls somewhere convenient.

Isn't there an indent underneath that for a dead key fob?

F if I know... there was a little indent in the bottom of the console.... not really much of one. Hows it work? Hopefully I didnt run a screw into something important, lol.

The indent was centered so I think im ok...maybe.

the whole shebang comes out easy with 2 screws in case I ever need to acess the thing I didnt know was there.

Some fords have a recession in their cubbies to hide an extra key. Kinda handy if you have the keypad on the door.
