What's new

2024 F1 thread

what the hell on the lap last? It looked like for a split sec the Ferrari blipped left for whatever reason and took them both into the wall. I'd be pissed if I was Perez.
I was pissed and I was just watching. From the car can I don't think sainz even knew he was there though.

Everyone said Perez had room to move but I'm not sure why he had to? Sainz didn't have to slide over at all, they said it was gradual but it seemed pretty quick transition to me. And not sure how he didn't know he was there or close.

I think Perez was holding his line and Sainz was creeping over knowing he was ahead, and the big Ferrari pivot was when they made contact. The officials ruled it a racing incident, but it cost both teams bigley, McLaren was the big winnah.

watched the highlights and thought "this would have been a great one to watch"

then realized it was probably a 2.5-3hr race after all the red flags, so maybe not so great

due credit to Max, quite the sterling drive, especially on lap one. He wraps it up in Vegas, should be quite the party

Norris has never been in the championship, RedBull have allowed it to close up rather than McLaren pulling off miracles, though their improvement is notable

Honestly sick of the Sky bias, not just to British drivers, but to all of F1. :flipoff:Please stop calling them the best drivers in the world, when there were cars missing from the start because drivers could not keep it on track, heck even the pace lap was a challenge (admit is was Stroll). Then the initial start was an embarrassing for anyone who calls themselves professional

I suggest the pundits take an off weekend and watch some WRC action if they want to catch the actual best drivers in the world. Shocker, they race in rain mud and even snow.

how does Cheko have a drive? (massive amounts of Carlos Slim money I know)

how bad is Hamilton wanting this season to be done? News flash, he is going to be worse at Ferrari, a lot worse.

Surprise of the season, two Alpines on the podium, chappeau.

Agreed on all accounts. The drive by Max reminds me of the Senna drive in 1984 at Monte Carlo.

I've thought about "The best drivers", and I think of a IROC type event where you take a Moto GP, Supercross, and Trials rider and they have to race on all three types of courses. My money would be on the Trials rider, sure he'd be much slower on the other two tracks, but should have no problem completing the race, and you can't say the same for the MX or GP riders on a Trials course.

I was just including the 4 wheel pilots. If you include the 2 wheel pilots / riders, that is a whole different playing field.

I think there were more passes on laps 18 and 19 to go in Malaysia than in the entire F1 race, and for a change there were many.

Those MotoGP riders just amaze me. I have driven fast race cars pretty fast, and slow race cars really fast, and have run fast cars at fast tracks where I can compare times against the very best. I consider having done a good job if I get within 10% of their times (F1 used to, maybe still does have a 107% rule). I cannot conceive of getting anywhere close to the bike guys, I am sure I would be 40% or more off the pace if I did not wet my leathers first or chuck the bike into the gravel at the first turn.

I have worked with bike guys who transitioned to cars, and every single one did a damn fine job. I doubt the record in reverse is anywhere near the same. The only other sport I know of that prepares you well for car racing is downhill ski racing - something to do with looking ahead.

Well to continue the bike analogy, I'll take a good dirt rider on a street bike over a good street rider on a dirt bike, same with cars. I know most of the current F1 guys come up Karting, but there is a long and storied history of Rally drivers making the jump. Keke comes to mind...he had no compunction against getting sideways.

Well done Max. A 4th championship in a row puts him in a very select league of drivers. Arguably in the worst of his steeds he has driven to the top. Compliments to Red Bull on fighting back after Miami (wonder if the truth ever comes out?) and the Horner soap opera

Little melt down from LeClerc today post checkers. Hints of the chaos next year will be perhaps?

Poor Gasly. Punching above the weight of the car for sure. Perhaps the cold conditions work in their favor?

Still 2 races to go and still constructors to be decided.

76Bronco or any locals? What were the crowd levels like? Better or worse than 23?

I watched some of it last night, that Williams wreck driver went extra mile.

I actually delivered stage/lightning equipment to Platinum hotel on Flamingo Wednesday morning.
Lots of work went into this event.

Got to drive on the part of the course until I connected to I15NB shortly after. Drove out using Flamingo to Paradise Rd (similar route I took coming in).

There's no way Checo is back next year. if he is, it's clearly about the sponsor $$ and RB doesn't care about constructors

was surprised yesterday how far back RB is in the constructors. will be interesting to see if team Red or Orange chokes bigger the next 2 races

Great to see an American OEM join the field.

Would love to be a fly on the wall in this process.

FIA approves Andretti / GM, F1 teams say no way are we splitting this massive income we get, screw you

Andretti : much whining

F1 : Fuck you

Andretti : cry to the house and senate, getting commerce involved

F1 : FUCK YOU but in capitals

Months pass, Andretti investor puts the screws to Andretti, removes him from his own team.

F1 : Well hello Cadillac, please forget everything we said about your effort not being competitive.

House, Senate, Commerce : well nothing to see here, move along

Andretti's : WTF man?

Andretti is out?

Mclaren really came back and racked up points for the constructors with both cars doing well. Still hoping RB can get it but they aren't helping themselves much. Waiting for the Ferarri to wad it up in a wall but hasn't happened yet.

they'd basically need checo on the podium and both reds and oranges out of the points for 2 races. doesn't really seem feasible for RB on the constructors side

unless my maths are off

Battle for constructors is between Ferrari and papaya.

Given Ferraris track record sans Brawn my money is on McLaren (not without their own soap operas - what have you done with Gavin Ward?)
I was personally happy to see the other big three finally get their shit together in the second half of the season, didn't really want to see RB run away with it. Those MB's were fast Saturday night.
