Another 40?

I'll be watching from the comfort of my couch on the other side of the pond.
I was just looking at the coverage starting, so yeah, it'll be a while till lights out.

Looks like a tiny chance at rain, we'll see.

Rain is always good for spicing things up a bit.

What's the under/over on another Hamilton torpedo? :flipoff2:

Orange one top, okay race.

Why is Newy leaving redbull, that's gonna switch things up on their end. I've sorta followed the news on it but it seems like a dumb reason to leave a team like this.

I enjoyed the race, it seems like there might actually be more parity now with three marques in the top five. Lando drove a perfect race, but it seemed like Max was having some handling issues, I don't think he had fastest lap at any point.

He's 65, been at the sharp end of F1 since 1988 and fancies retirement 🤷‍♂️.
He doesn't need the money, has plenty of hobbies/projects to keep him busy (including Red Bull's new WEC Hypercar) so why not pack it in? It's also probably not as much of a challenge for him at the moment now they've been on the same regs for the last couple of years.

IMO if he gets the itch to come back it'll probably be for Williams with the '26 reg change. He's not going to want to go to somewhere like Ferrari or Aston no matter how much they offer. He's gonna want that small team feel where he has carte blanche to do what he likes to make a winning car without having to have endless meetings, committees and a micromanaging boss interfering with the process.

I know he wasn't the happiest before hitting the bollard but there was no way he wouldn't have reeled Lando back in if his car was undamaged.

I said to the wife at the time when they showed the slo-mo 'look at all the black chunks coming out the back of the car, he's fucked the floor' but of course the commentators were too busy focusing on Max playing car football with the shiny orange bit to notice the small black bollard mount tearing the car a new one....

Yeah, when the course worker went on track he picked up the pylon, the base and something else, wasn't sure what the third thing was, but it was black so I assumed it was CF.

Well Monaco was predictably a parade, but it was interesting to see the teamwork, especially with Ferrari and McClaren. Top ten starters finished in that exact order, something that has never happened before. The cars are just too big to race the traditional Monaco circuit, but nothing will be done, because money.

Not up on all my race circuits but that was my feeling.

And what the hell was that shunt into Perez? That seemed highly excessive.

Yeah, not much left of that ride after that. And again, the wheel tethers didn't seem to do their job.

From Jalopnik, a little harsh but the race results support most of what he's saying.

Half Of The Drivers In Formula 1 Have Proven They Don't Deserve To Be There

It's time for the teams to kick some of these guys to the curb and pull in some fresh talent

There is a serious lack of skill on the current Formula 1 grid, and it’s getting to be downright appalling that there’s nowhere for the talented young kids working their way up the so-called open wheel ladder to go. So many of the graduates of the junior series are being shuffled off to IndyCar, endurance racing sports cars, Formula E, or shipped to Japan to run in Super Formula. Don’t get me wrong, all of those series benefit from having world class racers on track, but they deserved a shot at F1 and didn’t get it because Sergio Pérez somehow deserves seventeen seasons of mediocrity.
Red Bull is the biggest source of my ire when it comes to their treatment of junior drivers. The one entity fielding four cars on the grid somehow doesn’t have space to take a risk with its driver lineup. The energy drink company talks a big game about its junior driver development program, but hasn’t graduated anyone to the big leagues since Yuki Tsunoda in 2021. The team is quick to turn its back on young talent as soon as they have a rocky season, but will turn around and hire a decidedly past-his-prime Daniel Ricciardo after a season on the sidelines. It’s truly bonkers.

After eight grands prix so far this year, nine full-time drivers have scored fewer points than Oliver Bearman, who subbed in for an unwell Carlos Sainz for a single round. While many of them are in piss poor cars that couldn’t score a victory with a world champ at the wheel, you’d think they’d stumble their way into the points along the way.

I look at the current grid, with a seriously-old-for-F1 average age of 30 years, and I think about all the young guys who have missed their shot at an F1 title because the old timers won’t give it up, and the billionaire club just can’t see they don’t have the talent to warrant them sticking around. Oliver Bearman, Liam Lawson, Felipe Drugovich, Theo Pourchaire, and maybe even Mick Schumacher all got rat fucked because the has-beens keep getting contract extensions. There is no reason to hire the likes of Gasly, Ocon, Hulkenberg, Magnussen, Perez, Bottas, or Ricciardo over them.

lol well he's not wrong but it's a rich man driver's game as well. Seem most of the current drivers come from some family of influence.

Now I don't know if I agree with Perez though, he did get 2nd last year which isn't mediocrity. He's not too far back in 2nd this year either.

And I thought Botas was good when he had a good car at MB, even if it was downtuned from what Hamilton was driving.

Any idea how the weather is looking for the race?

Just tuned in, looks soggy but not raining at the moment. Fingers crossed it's gonna be a good race

only caught the beginning and end, but it was definitely more entertaining than Monaco. but i guess that's not hard

Probably the best race of the season so far. Changeable conditions definitely do their bit to keep things exciting. Some good wheel to wheel from the front to the back of the field.

Agree, best race of the season. Disaster for Ferrari, but it's good to see McClaren and MB making progress, although something really bad would have to happen to Max and RB for them to lose both the drivers and constructors championships.

Also the commentators fucked up a couple times saying teams were switching from Inters to Hard slicks, when they were actually putting on Mediums. I was trying to understand why a team would go from Inters to Hards, when the track was still damp and cool, but when the graphic came up and showed Mediums, it made more sense.

Lando was a real gentleman in his interview, not complaining about getting swept up by the safety car, even mentioning how he benefited from it in Miami.

Checko deal is all bout the dollars or in his case pesos. Carlos Slim has supported Checo throughout his career. And he brings the Mexico market, but also Mexicans to Austin, Miami and now Vegas

Jalopnik is not wrong. The No longer nimble and lithe race cars crammed with unnecessary tech are also part of the issue. Tilke circuits too maybe?
