1991 Snow Tracker Build

That must be with shipping. I haven’t got an exact quote yet.

Get up there too steep and those Toyota axles from Slowpoke will seem better…
I got 2 A-arms and 4 coil springs for $1000 bucks shipped. Very pleased with my hybrid Altered-Mini kit. Sounds better than Cal-Ego. To bad my engine took a shit on the second trip after dumping $3,000 bucks in it to give the car side of it a refresh.

Well, Low Range Offroad is running a 15% off sale. Just pulled the trigger on the Sumo Gears (4.24) and saved almost $90.

Let the fun begin.

Time to hunt down a new clutch. Throw out bearing has been making noise anyways.

Exedy or LUK?

With the tcase gears you should be fine with whatever clutch is on sale

I see now why everyone said to keep stock Tracker CV’s over aftermarket ones.

Question: Is there anyway to tear down the end with the oil slinger on it to clean it, and inspect it? The boots were ripped, and it started clicking on the last outing. The case side looks good.

All the parts stores can get you a boot n clamp kit if they don’t already have it in stock. Looks good, clean it, grease it and put it back together. I just recently did two of mine. I use expensive grease instead of the cheap crap that comes with the boot.

Is your expensive grease CV axle specific grease? Apparently it's polyurea instead of lithium (or whatever).

I always wondered if it makes any difference.

I use high moly. I can’t remember which of these but we use it in our RCV’s in the race cars. It’s almost a magnetic liquid, it sticks to the metal and almost impossible to break down. Completely water proof, also solvent proof so pretty difficult to contaminate. Also helps IDGAF what “manufacturers recommend”.

Edit, it’s this stuff we use. PAO base.

Moly grease is what I like to use for equipment also. It doesn't thin out when it gets warm like regular bearing grease, so it stays where it should.

So when :flipoff2: you tear another boot, it should buy you more time.

Also, Google boot stretching to prevent tears. Basically you clamp it a little higher up the shaft so the webs aren't rubbing together. The rubbing is what makes them tear quick. Made a huge difference on my 4runner.

Pulled the trans/t-case today. Gears are coming Wednesday, clutch on Thursday. Glad I ordered a new clutch.

Note to anyone building one of these. Trail Tough unbreakable motor mounts are expensive but they make this job stupidly quick as they eliminate a lot of the engine mount parts from Zuk.

I always like seeing Made in Japan on this stuff.

Started this last night. Spent more time trying to clearance the case than doing productive work. Tried taking lots of pictures for this job, but fawk it. There’s a good YouTube video on how to do this from Death Toll Racing.

What do you guys think about not installing the top long bolt under the transmission shifter housing?

JR4X said he left his out. Just thinking ahead for future services, or a broken case.

For the possibility of future service is exactly why I left it out. It’s been out for 6 years and the t-case has been rock solid, no leaks.

Well these gears are an absolute game changer.

Buttoned it all up tonight. New clutch is damn grabby as well.

4th gear is the new 1st :flipoff2:

I can't understand why they made the low only 1.9 or whatever. Should habe been 3:1 stock and samurais should have been 4:1

Does it actually want to idle over stuff? My old samurai had the 8v and with the 4.7 case only, 4.10 r&p and 37s it wasn't bad on everything but real technical stuff. I'd imagine, with 5.12s and 30s, you should be pretty darn good.

TDI swap, gearings fine :flipoff2:

Yeah it does. I have a little rock area behind my shop that I was idling through last night. It only stalled when the tire stuck it hard to a larger, flat surface.

79.24 is a good ratio for idling these little tires.

I might not feel the need to build bigger now if I can take my time through obstacles. It’s when I have to bump it over everything that I need to go bigger.

I am not great at filming and driving.

You guys using hose clamps or something to keep your rear springs from dumping out?

Hose clamps on mine.

3/16 on the belly skids “it’ll custom form to what it needs to.” -my one friend

I’m running red and tacky in my re-booted CVs.

Somehow I got unsubscribed from this thread, I missed all kinds of good stuff apparently.

I wrapped a large hose clamp around the body mount and spring perch on the top, and then a clamp around the axle and one around the spring for the bottom.

Hopefully it works.

I don't think you'll want to capture both sides. At least not with hose clamps.

Plus, it's good for a laugh when you pull up to your group and someone goes. "is your coil spring gone?"....... Twice

I flexed it out a couple times. Seems to be okay…for now.

I need to just get longer springs.
