1991 Snow Tracker Build

Feel free to send them my way. But also, Im mainly looking for one with a 16v or 2l.

Craigslist seems to be dying locally, and FB Marketplace has crap for a search engine and organization.

Use the map function on CL and zoom out.

Found this. I would buy it if closer.

I threw the Geo on a scale today at the local Love’s. It came in at 2,520 lbs.

In order to haul it on my 14’ trailer to AOAA I need to shave about 520lbs. off.

The doors can come off. It would actually make it way nicer to wheel doorless. But what about the rear hatch? I think that might weaken the body too much without a cage.

The rear seats can come out.

Maybe the passenger seat.

I can run it way low on fuel.

That might get me close enough. Thoughts?

I doubt taking the hatch off would change the structure of the cab any more than removing the side doors.

Who’s checking your weight? Or are you trying to get it closer to the max cargo carrying capacity of the trailer? I wouldn’t sweet 500# over on a double axle trailer unless you think you’re going to get caught

It’s a single axle, hence the concern. 70mph down I-80 over weight might be sketchy.

Did you do the tongue weight math? If it has a gvw of 3k and weights 3500 but you have 500 lbs on the truck, you aren’t overweight.

Wut? :homer:

Trailer is GVWR 2,990lbs.

Trailer weight is 900lbs.

Geo is 2,520 lbs.

That would be over weight, right?

Exactly

And OP needs a touch more trailer. My photographer pulls a Toyota on a 14 ft trailer but it’s got two axles.

Despite what the tag says, I’d round up to 3000# then.

What DMG is correctly saying is that The Tracker is as good as 2500#. If the tongue weight on the hitch is 500# or over the trailer is within its capacity. As in the truck you are towing the trailer with will be carrying a portion of the load. You subtract that portion from the total number and the remainder is what the trailer is carrying.

Now, a 4 door tracker is 14 ft long tip to tail, and has a bit of a front weight bias. So if you pull it on the trailer forward you should be able to get 6 or 7 hundred pounds on the trailer ball.

GVWR 3000

Tracker 2500 + trailer 900 = 3,400

Minus 600 pounds tongue weight = 2800# on the trailer axle and tires. I’d give it a test pull and if it doesn’t wag I’d send it.

I bought it when I was hauling ATV’s and SXS’s. Just trying to make it work since everything is $$$$ now. Buddy has a 7,000lbs. car trailer I could borrow. Just trying to make my lighter trailer work.

Is there a way to calculate exactly what’s on the tongue? Steer axle weight is 1,400lbs on this 2 door.

Wait, never mind. This will be fine.

I forgot we had to pull my Yamaha Wolverine X4 (probably 1,900lbs with all extras), and my buddy’s Polaris 500 Sportsman with winch and big bumper (about 900lbs.) 360 miles home from WV.

I still want the doors off for summer. :smokin:

if you can load it right you are so close with all those numbers that it should tow as good as a single axle trailer ever tow’s. Just pull that tracker as far forward as you can and still tie it down solid. I bet it tow’s just fine. If your trailer tires aren’t already on the verge of exploding from dry rot you should be fine.

If you have scales for getting the corner weights on a race car

The doors were nowhere near as heavy as I imagined.

Only thing that makes me nervous about a single axle trailer is that it’s a single axle.

Id have to carry 2 spares for a long trip. But I worry about shit way too much.

The only thing I'd worry about is the tires they put on those cheap trailers. Maybe worth upgrading tires for piece of mind. Should be fine otherwise.

Post a Pic of it.

It was from a fabrication shop. Not a box store.

I’ll post up a better pic later today. The tires are normal trailer tires...to me anyways. This was when I had the SXS. Had it built to haul 2 ATV’s.

The tongue is heavy as fuck.

For some reason I thought I read it came from Lowes. But I reread your post and it doesn't say that :homer:

Should be fine imo.

"normal" trailer tires are shit

Got out wheeling last night. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m going to need to go bigger soon. These sport machines are leaving ruts I can’t get through, because I don’t have IRS, so I’m dragging my diff.

Why not build it bigger, right? :flipoff2:

Had one trail repair last night. Crawled up a creek bed and over stretched my clutch cable. Also time for 4.24 transfer case gears. Stock gearing sucks.

I drag diffs on 40s, a SxS with 35s on it has stupid ground clearance. Also don’t make me get my soapbox out about how they have ruined the trails.

Also looks like a cool spot, fairly good sized or a little local testing grounds??

You dragging diffs at Wellsville?

I explained to my buddy last night about trails and how to keep them from getting shut down and how we would have to approach the state in making more trails. Basically I told him a built full-size rig usualy just crawls through trails slowly. Yes, they will eventually cause ruts from wet seasons and they’ll eventually cause erosion. However, sport machines with idiots blipping the throttle over every obstacle, around every turn, up hills, etc. makes it happen FAST.

The trails have gotten so bad in one year that it’s unreal. To the point I’m trying to bite my sidewall into dirt to keep from getting hung up everywhere.

As for the spot, it’s just a local area. Very nice scenery, but nothing worth towing to ride. Very easy stuff for the most part.

EDIT: If I can make something happen from another member here, I might actually build a rock section on my property to play on. I only have 20 acres, but I have so many giant rocks it can be a fun little test area. Could even be used to help my buddies learn to approach rocks better.

Dam, only place in the west I’ve ever encountered rut issues is in the desert where trophy trucks and U4 cars cut trenches in the sand. All of our mountains are made of stone so the roads hold up.

Yes, you have very, very nice trails. What’s amazing is how long they’ve been there and how nice they still are, considering the traffic they see each year.

Eastern wheeling has it’s own challenges. Too much rain, massive erosion, and more retards populating our trails. Some of the ruts I’ve seen are so massive…then the sides are usually too slick or crumble to let you try and straddle it all. Fawkin’ annoying.

Just get some of those tall skinny tractor tire on 22" chrome wheels like the mud guys do :flipoff2:

One thing that does help is an offset diff like a samurai or land cruiser.

Even though we haven’t had much rain this summer, there was still plenty of mud in the deeper holes. The rail bed mud is awful. Black, fine crap that gets everywhere.

I’ve also been rubbing like crazy, so I’m about to pull out the grinder and hack these fenders up. I’m even rubbing on the rear and starting to pull the metal out.

Well you fawker have me searching CL. How awful would an auto one be? There is a clean looking soft top for 3k. But it's auto.
