What's new

1982 Pro Street ElCamino Conquista refresh

Still didn't get it fired up 😕 but I think it's ready now, just needs water.
Going to run some cooling system cleaner through it first to try and get rid of the rust in the block/heads.
Still need to redo the fan power wire but the rest of that cable i used isn't long enough to replace it completely so I'll get a barrel splice, or more likely a new piece of cable.
Honestly I'm feeling like I don't care and I'm going to run it as is.

Do you even 90's bro:laughing:
I likely agree but mufflers is the last thing on my list of actual problems.

What do I replace them with?
Purple hornies, duh...do you even 90's bro?

Ideally something straight through, at your hp level your talking 20-40hp with those offset "flowmasters"

20-40hp isn't going to motivate me to change anything.

The drone reduction is appealing.

Borla or Magna Flow straight through mufflers. Better performance and a better sound plus they are fairly quiet when you are not getting on it so cruising around isn't a miserable experience

Heat shields for the trans lines are sweet. There is never a good way to run those in a car with headers and full exhaust so you gotta do what ya gotta do if you want a front mounted trans cooler.

I'll add mufflers to the things to do list.
But the 25+ year old tires are still an issue...

That would be perfect!
I know some roundy racers in Alabama... Anyone closer?

And now that I posted that tire and thought about it for a minute I'm kinda mad. I'm paying $10 less for a 27x9x15 Hoosier Bite for my SxS. You could probably make 2 of them with all the rubber in one of those sprint car tires.

This sort of seems like a no Brainer for these tires huh?

I don't need max effort tires...
I found a Facebook group of used slicks but I had a hard time getting accurate date codes from some of the listings.

For $275 a tire new I wouldn't even bother with used tires, especially slicks since you want to drive it around on the street. Getting caught in a freak rain storm while cruising on slicks would also kind of suck.

If you order or pick up the tires from a place like Smiley's or Summit ask for two of the same size. Hoosier tires have OD measurement #'s written on them in yellow tire crayon and you want two that have the same # on them so they are equal in OD at a given pressure.

I'm gonna do some web searches and get a better look of these things in real life. I don't want "mud grips"

Cooling system rocks.
Fan at 90% is pretty ape shit crazy:smokin:
Got it all back together, flushed the cooling system and programmed the high low temps on the FPM. Actually doing that process was a lot easier than I thought it was in reading the instructions.

Took it around town out to a buddies house but he wasn't home so I came back through and stopped at Jack in the box for some dinner, found out I gave no cup holders...
Temps stayed at 170, I'm thinking I have a 165 thermostat in it.
I set the min at 160 and the max at 190.
Even during sustained 2nd gear sections temps never got to 180.

Pretty jacked on that and really appreciative of the Info put into the cooling fan thread.

Oh yeah had hell getting it fired up and running clean. It kept flooding out and I've had to clean it out then it would die again.
Pulled the air cleaner and the fuel was pouring out the rear boosters so it seemed like the float was stuck.

After much fuckin around I pulled the rear bowl and found the needle was leaking. I pulled the needle/seat and it looked like oring on the outside of the cartridge was hard. I dug through a old Holley kit and found two new cartridges and swapped them out. I think I need to raise the float levels a hair but that's all good now.

Went to parts store and breakfast this morning.

It's got a lean bog after tip in, I guess it's been there all along because it had it in the original video I posted when I got it back together.

I did jet it down when I converted to street car but maybe that wasn't good? Or I fucked with the mixture screws? Or I changed the squirter cam?:homer:

Then stop being a bitch and come on !

EFI time
