What's new

03 Dakota "The Hustler"

So since the truck is down waiting on a driveshaft.. I've had these PRP seats from an old Polsris build I never finished. Decided to stick them in the truck and see how they fit. Couldn't have ordered them to fit better. So stripped the interior and started mocking up the seats. Going to build a mild cage around seats for harnesses and integrate rear seat mounts into cage.

Front seats are on their mounts. Time to cut the cab apart and pull dash to start cage... going to have to coerce every inch of space I can for bodily clearance to cage.

Update on where the truck is at. Rear Carrier bearings are burnt up. Most likely wheel bearings are toast as well. Make sure you stay on top of your pinion leak.

Went to check air filter and Didn't expect to see this.. guess the spectre enclosed air filter wasn't enough for the little 4.7... no idea how long it's been like this.

compression probably just about right to boost it after eating that much grit :(
Ya, definitely shaved some life off it. Been keeping an eye out for a good deal on a truck with an LS and a manual to swap in it. No, I can't fit a Hemi. I even measured out for an 8.1 and Allison I had my eye on.. Definitely won't fit with out major re engineering of everything.

Nothing a sawzall or torch can’t fix:lmao:

You are absolutely correct. Just don't have the funds to do a complete rebuild.. other eise the supercharged 8.1 and Allison would have gone in it. Lol...

Understandable there for sure although with the ideas of a supercharged 8.1, I’d gladly throw some sawzall blades and torch gas your direction for encouragement :lmao:

Little bit of eye candy pictures. PRP seats with New Glory Harness.

Parts are slowly coming in. Started up front, move fuse box and stripped unnecessary stuff out of the harness. Fabbed up a mount for a new air filter box. This one is a Donaldson out of 2010 Express Van. Should be a large improvement over the old setup. Went junkyarding for some superduty driveshafts to build my 2 piece shaft as well.

Been awhile on the updates. Wrapping the rear axle. Rebuilt it with all new bearings. Built a new 2 piece deiveshaft with a machined 1350 DC joint. 36° max angle. Front shaft is a stock 04 superduty with 1410 joint and I added a companion flange from a D60 to match my double cardin. Rear shaft is 3"x.188 Dom. All tig welded, and even balanced it. Well, the water cup says there are no vibrations. We will see.

Still plugging away at this. Cage is almost done. Wrapping up interior. Got my JBFab twin stick shifter installed today. Way better then my old speedway shifter setup. Plus I can reach it with a harness on. And did a quick release steering wheel for getting in and out.. yes thats a Sparco Rzr steering wheel. I had it leftover. I'll get a sticker to cover it..

Well it's done for this time around. Time to go wheeling. Front Prp bucket seats and Prp rear bench. Kids got their boosters to go with the harnesses. Cage is done, managed to get the B Pillar bars behind the factory plastic, no other head contact areas. Big thanks to Tom Major (Dak Attack build) for the cage information. JB fab twin cable shifters shift so much nicer than my last setup. Got a tablet mount built for the passenger navigation. Fire Extinguisher mounted for easy access. And added a Rugged GMR45 radio. Test drive went well today, driveshaft doesn't have any vibrations. New intake seems to do well also.
Packing the family in for a New Years day run in the mountains.

Well, wheeling trip didn't go well... transfer case failed again. Managed to get it off the mountain and have my neighbor come get us. Range hub and fork are burning up again. This is a completely different case and did the same thing.. frustrating..

Domer that super sucks but such a cool picture with the mountain backdrop.
Thanks. Ya that picture came out really good. I have no idea why I keep wiping out transfercases. Going to have tondo some serious investigation.

Quite strange indeed. Do you know which transfer case left the chat?

Ya, it's my rear case the Jeep NP241. It happened 3 times on the last case, so Replaced it with a different case that I inspected when I bought it. 4th time out and it does it again. The fork pads melt, burn up the aluminum fork, then the range hub is free to move about..

No experience with the innards of a 241, but that’s super strange.

Sounds like something is putting pressure on the fork when there shouldn't be. How is your shifter set up?
Shifters are good. Used to be aluminum handles with mechanical linkage, but no detents. Now I'm running twin cable shifters. Same thing, no detents, so transfer case inner detents are functioning as stops. So no misalignment.

at least it looks good doing it.

with cable shifters it cannot be most of the things that would cause unintended movement. IIRC those are spec'd to have ATF+4 in them, and they have a fluid pump on the input shaft. are pump and tube and pickup screen all good? I don't recall what sort of pump it is, could it be worn out or broken rubber vanes?
